 | road run 20:00 [2] | |
| |
| did the same workout as Friday. I have no time (hence the nonlogging recently) so I am trying to squeeze in some runs so I don't feel completely out of shape. Jogging before, between and after intervals. |
 | road run 10:00 [3] | |
| |
| ran 1 minute intervals with 30 seconds jogging between while looking at a course I drew myself from team trials maps. Man, they were even hard to read at a jog on the pavement. I was quite tired by the end and my last 2 "sprints" were pretty slow. I'm still quite sore from the weekend. |
Sunday Apr 29 |
 | trail run 8:00 [2] | |
| |
| There really wasn't much room to warm up either day, so I didn't warm up as much as I should have. |
 | Orienteering 1:09:40 [4] | |
| |
| Today was a much better day than yesterday, in that I managed to hold it together through the whole course. I wasn't as smooth as I was in the beginning yesterday, but I was only missing a little bit in the circle on a few of them. I was on the wrong hilltop on #10 and stoof there for a bit figuring that one out. I didn't have the energy at the end of the race that I usually do to really push the last controls. I think it was due to having very sore lower legs. I bent my ankle at some angles it really doesn't like (it was swollen again a bit tonight) and I have been running funny on my right foot because of the blister on my toe, so the tendon on the outside of my leg was sore. I was really just a mess :) |

| Event: West Point A-Meet |
 | Orienteering 1:18:41 [3] | |
| |
| This course started off ok, but then I really crashed both mentally and physically at the end. I forgot my shoes at home, so I borrowed Janet Porters. They are the right size, but I didn't lace them up tight enough, and with all the side hilling at West Point. I stopped on the way to #12 to untape and retie them but the damage was already done to my feet. Blisters on the bottom of my feet - left ball of foot and right big toe. I think the pain from them really affected me mentally and I blew 11, 12 and 13. |
 | Orienteering 14:52 [3] | |
| |
| Got more orl ess guilted into running the sprint. Duct taped my feet back together, took some painkillers and set out. I was careful in my running, and still left a coupe of controls a bit wrong and got confused at the end in the barracks, but had a steady run. The blister on my toe popped as I was running, so I didn't have to deal with that later :) |

| running to and from the track with dad |
 | track workout 13:30 [3] | |
| |
| Dad and I ran 8 400s, all at 100 seconds with 30-40 seconds rest. It was easier than threshold, but harder than I would run on roads. We had Surebridge Mt. maps that we were reading each lap. For some of the route choice, I was thinking "Well, I'd run and hope to figure out where I was as I went along" Great planning.... |

 | Orienteering 1:10:00 [2] | |
| |
| Dad and I went out to pick up the controls we put out for last weekend, but it turns out that someone has already picked them up! So we ran the red course. Oddly enough, there were streamers up at some of the controls, even though we never set streamers. So we took those down :) |
Wednesday Apr 18 |
 | road run 35:00 [2] | |
| |
| running around on the roads before and a little bit after the threshold workout. We were going to run on the trails, but it;s been raining for the past 3 days nonstop (really, no joke) and the trails are just a bit muddy. That makes it hard to get enough grip to run fast enough. So we decided to do intervals around Stoney Lea circle. |
 | road run 28:00 [3] | |
| |
| Threshold run around Stoney Lea - about 1200 meters. Ran 6 loops with 30-40 seconds of rest between. Ran with a Surebridge Mt. map for this upcomng weekend. Planned the routes during the rest and "ran" the route while running each loop. HR around 183, and it wasn't difficult to get it there. Time were slower than I had hoped and HR was high - which means I'm not quite in the shape I had hoped... still a couple more weeks til team trials though.
Times: 4:37, 4:41, 4:45, 4:40, 4:44, 4:41. |
Tuesday Apr 17 |
 | road run 1:55:00 [2] | |
| |
| a long road run with Dad around Newton in the rain. Went to spectate the Boston Marathon yesterday. Those people didn't look so tired. And there are so many of them, and they can all do it. But then at almost 2 hours today my knees hurt and I wasn't even running that fast. I still think ever running a marathon would be a bad idea. Of course I tell this to dad and he tells me about a trail marathon at the end of May he thinks we should run. |
Sunday Apr 15 |
 | Orienteering 15:30 [3] | |

| sprint at the junior training camp. I got stuck once when the trail that went across the river was flooded. I might have crossed it if I was alone, but there was a junior girl there who really didn't want to cross it, but didn't know what to do. So we ran over to the bridge. The rain made it extra fun :) |

 | trail run 2:30:00 [1] | |
| |
| The Junior Training Camp. I spent a lot of time running around picking up controls, shadowing, and leading juniors around. The weather was really quite beautiful. Lots of activities and I think the juniors all had a good time. We coaches were kept busy! I feel like I didn't get a good run in ever, since it was stop and go, but it was an exhausting day spending the whole time on my feet. |

| setting out controls with dad for our meet his weekend, that we actually won't be here for because it conflicts with the Junior Training Camp. The rain was ok for the first 8 controls. It had actually stopped raining for a bit and it was somehwat pleasant with 3 layers of clothing and only a slight drizzle. Then on the way to 9 the hail started and it was downhill from there. I was so excited to see the car. I was wet all the way through my layers. |

| just a run around Newton alone, since dad is still visiting the grandparents. I felt really tired and short of breath. I had my ipod, but after about 20 minutes I turned it off. Today I enjoyed running without music more. Aiming ot run for 1 hour, but just couldn't quite make it. |

| went to my grandparents for Easter and ran the long run on the hilly roads around there. Ross brought his camera and we took some pictures, but I have to figure out how to get them on here, or link them. |

| warm up trail run in the Blue Hills with dad. |
 | Orienteering 25:00 [3] | |
| |
| Dad and I went to runthe sprints that we ran last week in the Blue Hills again, this time trying to run mostly from memory. Well, I was moving slower than last week and I made 2 mistakes... so I was slower the second time. How wrong is that? |

| The second sprint. Also slower than last time, although I'm pretty sure this one is just due to speed. I didn't get lost this time :) |

 | trail run 1:05:48 [3] | |
| |
| ran the skyline trail run with dad. I was a bit worried about my toe, especially running the steep downhills, but it was fine. My trail shoes have a lot of room in the toe, which is nice. We weren't running quite as fast as usual, especially in the beginning. On the way home dad turned a sharp corner in the car and the gas sloshed to one side of the tank and the car stalled. I should find my debit card soon so I can buy more gas..... |

| easy run over to Wilson Mountain for threshold runs around the trail loop. |
 | trail run 28:00 [4] | |
| |
| ran two loops around the trail. Aiming for usual threshold HR of around 182/183, but just could not run fast enough. Times were 13:56 and 14:01, which are on the faster side, so I was obviously moving. The HR on the first loop didn't go above 182, and was around 180 and the second loop it barely hit 181, avg. around 179 probably. Legs tired on the second loop and I felt like I was running all out. What's up with that? |

 | road run 35:00 [1] | |

| running over to Wilson Mountain with dad. I bruised my big toe at the end of the race on Sunday and the nail turning funny colors now :( It's painful to walk on, but it wasn't so bad when running. I tried to row after running, but I couldn't bend my toes up in the most forward position of the rower, because my toe nail is being jammed into my foot - yeah, it's gross :) So I did some lifting for my back instead. |

| Today's race went better than yesterdays I think. I really felt like I could run and picked the speed up especially in the end, which is what I like to do. I could see Clem coming out of #15 as I was coming into it, and although I couldn't see him for a couple of conrols I knew he was just ahead of me. I punched the last control right behind him and almost beat him in the chute, but he heard me coming :). Today I made a real mistake on #9, when I left #8 at the wrong angle, and obvioulsy was not doing a good job looking at my compass. I came back by beating all red and blue runners on the split to #10 :) Probably helped when Mike Sandstrom passed me and I sprinted to try (successfully) to punch before him. I again wasn't looking at my compass in the field to #13 and ran about 90 degrees the wrong way for about 250m before recovering, and I took a bad route through some brambles to 7, but otherwise a good race. I was running well and felt better physically today than yesterday. I just wish it had been sunny! |
