Friday Nov 30 | ||
| road run 45:00 [3] | ||
| I went running again with my high school friend from her place in Watertown. This time we ran along the Charles. I feel like I run faster with her than I do when running around at home. I don't know if it's because we're talking so much and I get out of breath, or if I am actually moving faster. But it's a nice faster pace - a just right pace :) | ||
Wednesday Nov 28 | ||
| road/trail run 26:00 [1] | ||
| A very easy run to stretch my legs. I was running as slowly as I could so as to not hurt my quads, and they felt much better on the trails than on the pavement. Today (Thursday) I can walk down stairs with almost no pain :) | ||
Tuesday Nov 27 | ||
| road/trail run 2:26:00 [2] | ||
| Another long run to prepare for the marathon. My legs hurt the most during this run out of all the other long runs I've done so far. Dad and I ran to the Blue Hills from house in dedham, ran around on little Blue Hill and then ran back home. The outer muscle on my left quad hurt after about 20 minutes of running (left over from the 3 hours run Friday), but soon everything above my knees starting getting sore, so I didn't really notice that muscle in particular. How will I ever make it around the marathon??? | ||

| I erged for a short bit before running. It's easier after running. | ||
| road/trail run 38:00 [2] | ||
| Hill, Dad and I went for a run up Westfield Street and back again. It wasn't raining when we started running, but started drizzling near the end. My left quad is still a bit sore from the 3 hour run on Friday. | ||
Sunday Nov 25 | ||
| Event: Mt Tom | ||
| road/trail run 1:04:00 [2] | ||
| A run around Newton with Ross. It's a beautiful day, about 45 degress and sunny. My left outer quad is sore from the long run and really just got more sore as this run went on, but it's just tired. Most of the run was on trails, as I realized that Newton has a large expanse of wooded areas and trails. You can connect most of them with just a little road in between. I rolled my left ankle (the one I sprained last fall) badly off the edge of the sidewalk because it was covered in leaves. I took a few hopping steps and then stopped to assess the damage - none! To my delight, my ankle is fine. It was simply one of those times when you roll it and then have to hop it off. I think that's a good sign for that ankle :) | ||
Friday Nov 23 | ||
| road/trail run 3:00:12 [2] | ||
| A long run today starting at my house with Ross, Hill and Cristina who was up visiting family. We ran from my house to Cutler Park in Needham, did the loop, which took us into Dedham. Then we ran the trail along the Charles and back by the house. We went down Woodward Street to the trail and then did a loop around Cold Spring Park. I voted for stopping running as soon as we were over 3 hours. Despite having a gu and a little to drink I was getting light headed at the end and was happy to walk the last 2 minutes. | ||
| C • 3 hours - almost a marathon! 2 | ||
Wednesday Nov 21 | ||
| road/trail run 2:01:00 [2] | ||
| Long run around Dedham with Hill and dad. We let Hill lead (which she would have done anyway) and we ran some of the same trail sections a few times at Wilson Mountain. Hill doesn't mind the repetition, but I get bored by it. An ok run, I felt alright, but I was really ready for it to be done. | ||
Tuesday Nov 20 | ||
| road run 30:00 [2] | ||
| Dad actually timed this run, so I'll have to check with him. The snow (!) had stopped by the time we went out. Afterwards I (well, we, dad had to loosen the nuts on the wheels) changed my tires to studded snow tires :) | ||

Monday Nov 19 | ||
| Note | ||
| I spent 10 hours yesterday researching and writing my research paper. It was painful. So today before class I actually had to do my readings for class. | ||
Sunday Nov 18 | ||
| Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| Ross logged 1 hour for this so I will too. Relaly I think we may have been running for less time, but we were out for at least 1hr2min, so 1 hour will do. Ross was running quickly in the beginning and I was struggling to keep up. Actually, I don't think Ross was going that fast, but I could barely move. I guess that happens when you stop training :) We ran around on Little Blue Hill but Ross refused to tell me where he was going to hang controls. | ||
Saturday Nov 17 | ||
| Note | ||
| Just didn't go running today. I went with Hill to look at her probable new apartment and then we went shopping - for others, but really just for ourselves. I'm not terribly motivated to go out and run this time of year when I don't have any more real races until April - oh no wait, I'm probably going to Tucson in February - but that's still a long ways off! So training really only occurs on days when I'm motivated enough and don't have too much classwork. Such as a 10 page research paper that I haven't even started researching due in less than 48 hours. Really, I'm not a procrastinator. | ||

Friday Nov 16 | ||
| road run 48:30 [2] | ||
| Today I met up with a friend from High School who was on my track team. I haven't seen her since we graduated from high school, so there was a lot of catching up to do! She ran track in college and is now with a running club in Boston. It was fun to see her again and catch up on our lives! | ||

| road run 18:00 [1] | ||
| Run to #11 of an old Blue Hills Traverse course with dad. Nice day. | ||
| Orienteering 52:00 [2] | ||
| Running part of an old Traverse with Dad. It's a lot slower when you are't racing. | ||
Saturday Nov 10 | ||
| Orienteering 57:22 [3] 7.5 km (7:39 / km) | ||
| Ran the Blue course at Estabrook Woods. I started out moving along not too quickly, but I warmed up nicely and started to get too hot. I was a bit confused coming out of 1. I caught dad around 4, but then was confused on 8 and as I caught HIll there dad caught up. I was a bit off on the way to 12, but stayed ahead of Hill and Dad to the finish. The last local meet I beat Ross by about a minute and today he beat me by only 10 seconds. How come I can't get this close during A events? | ||

| Orienteering 35:24 [3] | ||
| Hill and I ran the brown course together trading off legs. We stopped on the wrong boulder on #4, because the one we were at was covered by a number on the blue course. Then I didn't want to get my feet wet so I went around to #12, but still got my feet wet. | ||
Friday Nov 9 | ||
| road/trail run 52:00 [2] | ||
| Dad came with Hill and I for a bit and then headed home as HIll and I ran the Wilson trail loop and then back. It was getting dark by the end. | ||
Wednesday Nov 7 | ||
| road run 48:00 [2] | ||
| Went for a short run with Dad around Dedham. The weather was much nicer today, but I am still sick. I got sick Friday morning, and had a stuffy nose through the weekend, and now I think it's in the "get worse before it gets better" stage. My ears and nose feel very stuffed up and my throat hurts a bit when I start beathing more heavily. Although today I probably only blew my nose once every 20 minutes, when yesterday it was more like every 10-15. So much fun. The irony is that I took a "sick" day off work on Friday to fly down to US Champs. | ||

| Cold and rainy outside. I went on the rower for a very short bit. | ||
Sunday Nov 4 | ||
| trail run 15:00 [1] | ||
| Running to the start. | ||
| Orienteering 1:05:53 [4] | ||
| A much better race today. The first control was easy, which was a nice beginning. I did well after that, choosing a safe route to #4 and doing well on the two longer legs. I messed up #10, making a parallel error. I thought I figured it out quickly, but the mistake cost me about 3 minutes. I then ran into Boris as we were going to the same next 2 controls. I was behind him into and out of 12, but lost him on the trail on the way to #13. I ran the trail around and but cut into the wrong reentrant. As I was standing there, Ross ran through, so I figured I was one reentrant too early :) I ran to the contorl, as Ross ran by it :) I finished well. | ||

Day 2 Red Y - Splits | ||
Saturday Nov 3 | ||
| trail run 15:00 [1] | ||
| running to and from the start a couple of times. | ||
| Orienteering 1:43:54 [4] | ||
| Oh man, this was a disaster from start to finish. I never figured it out and never got moving. Part of this was due to the thick vegetation, but also because I was never navigating well. I had a good plan to #1, running up along the left side of the swamp and then cutting over directly east over the nose to the ditch. But I cut over too early and was south of the control, but thought that maybe I was too high. #2 is where I lost probably the most time. I lost contact with the map on the way and when I hit the reentrant I didn't know where I was. I ran the wrong way and took awhile relocating. I messed up a few more after that (like 6 and 7 and really 10), but I don't need to go into details :) It was not my best race. | ||
Day 1 Red Y - Splits | ||
Friday Nov 2 | ||
| Event: US Champs | ||
| Orienteering 20:00 [1] | ||
| Running/walking around the sprint model with Hill. We found some things difficult and were really glad we got out there before the sprint. In the beginning of the course we found that you couldn't see rides, but you could see ditches. And them later on we could see the ride, but not the dithc. Oh well! | ||
| Orienteering 18:57 [5] | ||
| I started the sprint off well, but then was really off on my compass to #4. I crossed a ditch, which I thought was the ditch on the way, but was actually not on the map. I saw my #8, not realizing it was 8, and ran to it thinking it was 4. I then realized that I crossed a trail, and I shouldn't have going to 4. So I went back to the trail, and ran the wrong way before noticing it wasn't going the right way and turned around. The braindeadness wasn't over, because of #7, which was right next to the trail and a white control. I saw a rootstock and cut into the woods and ran right by the control, got to the end of the green/trees, and ran back up the trail to the control. Katta caught me going to #9 and we ran the rest of the way without being able to get away from eachother. | ||
| Orienteering 15:00 [1] | ||
| Went to the classic model with Ross, Boris, Hill, and Cristina. Although we really walked most of the time, Boris told us all we had to log this :) It was good to get out and see the terrain. | ||
