| ran the urban rogaine with Zan. The pace was great, although with about a half hour left my knees, hips and ankles started to hurt from running on the pavement. And the snow held off until we were done! Good times. |

| ran in the Blue Hills with dad. Wasn't the skyline trail, but one that ran along beside it. Felt pretty tired. |

 | road run 1:17:00 [2] * | |

| I ran around Newton with a street-o map - preparing for the urban rogaine this weekend. :) A easy run because that felt good, and like I could continue the pace for a long time. Ross now has a job (yay) but that means he can't go running with me anymore. |
Monday Oct 24 |
 | road run 33:00 [4] | |
| |
| I knew this was going to be a short run, so I tried to run hard. Also, I know that I am not going to run for teh next two days since a friend is coming into town. |

| ran a 9.something blue course at Hale Reservation. Took 5 minutes to copy the map and stopped for three minutes out on the course to try and get a big bug out of my eye so I could see. I made some small errors along the way and was slowed down by thorn bushes, but the rain held off! Also, used the base plate again today. Worked well until the last control where I went 90 degrees the wrong way. I sort of knew I was doing it, but I was between swamps and it was hard to correct. Ended up on a different trail and took a long route to the last control. Besides that, I worked well with the compass. I'll have to see if I like it better than a thumb conpass.... |

| ran a 6k course in the Blue Hills with dad. It was my first time using a base plate compass since I was on orange. It took some time to get used to it, but it went well. We switched off legs, so I was also working on reading ahead and planning a route and a specific attack point. |

| ran over to Hammond Pond (20 minutes) (an o map, although we didn't have the map) ran around there (30 minutes) and ran home (17 minutes) with Ross. |

| I felt more off today than yesterday. I was very hesitant going through the woods, even though I was moving slowly. Picked it up more at the end with the trails. |

Saturday Oct 8 |
 | Orienteering 1:21:54 [2] 5.2 km (15:45 / km) | |
| |
| a very rainy day. Although that isn't an excuse for how I orienteered. This course will go up on my refrigerator as a reminder never to quit my day job. |
 | Orienteering 53:04 [2] 4.1 km (12:57 / km) | |
| |
| Alright, so then I try the orange. Still, I can't navigate, although I'm not tired physically. Again reminding me how badly I really can and do orienteer, except maybe when the stars are aligned for me? |
Thursday Oct 6 |
 | trail run 1:01:00 [3] | |
| |
| run with dad in a part of the blue hills that I don't think I've ever ran in ! Very tired feeling, like yesterday. I think it was a combination of a long Highlander and then standing for 6 hours for U2! |

| ran around Newton. Very tired feeling. |
Tuesday Oct 4 |

| U2 concert!!!! It was amazing, as always. But this time, for the first time, I was in the third row from the stage!!!!! Great pictures of Bono, The Edge, Adam and Larry. I think that standing on my feet for 6 hours should count as a workout. My feet are so sore! |

| Event: Hudson Highlander X |
 | Orienteering 4:41:00 [3] 26 km (10:48 / km) | |
| |
| Another Hudson Highlander. This was so much longer than last year, although I finished the race feeling much better than last year. That was aided by the advil that I took at the last aid station, before beginning the last loop. I get horrible back cramps when I do really long orienteering runs, and if I didn't get the painkillers I'm not sure I would have made it. It was also hotter than I expected, and at times the only thing getting me around the course was the idea of water being at the next control. I think that if the streams had water in them out in the woods, I might have actually drank out of them. I was running with a good group in the beginning, but then messed up 7 slightly and 8 pretty bad and then got lost on the trail run. So I lost a group that I felt like I could have stayed with for much longer. Then on the long leg from 16 to 17 I somehow managed to get my map turned upsidedown. So I was going in the complete opposite direction for about 15 minutes before I noticed it and paniced. I was so completely lost then and it took awhile of treking through the woods on my compass to finally figure out where I was. Luckily right when I was getting back on track I saw Ross, which boosted my confidence. The last map went well once the many cups of water, electrolyte caps, sports drink, and advil kicked in :) Next year, I'm doing more back exercises, and bring more goo and advil. Also, I'm going to look more at my running style and see if that is what is causing horrible back pains. |
