| Work and then class until late. | ||
Thursday Mar 30 | ||
| road run 20:00 [1] | ||
| warm up and down | ||
| road run 13:15 [4] * | ||
| Dad and I were going to run on the track, but both local tracks were being used by their schools. So we ran around Stoney Lea road, which is about a 1170 meter loop. Ran 3 times around, 4:23, 4:22, 4:20. Hard, but not too bad. | ||
Wednesday Mar 29 | ||
| trail run 1:24:00 [1] | ||
| in the Blue Hills with dad. Still quite tired feeling. | ||
| trail run 20:00 [4] | ||
| trying to run at T pace, which I beleve is HR 180, but I just could not run hard enough. It was all I could do to keep my HR around 175, so that's what I did. | ||
Tuesday Mar 28 | ||
| road run 37:00 [1] | ||
| road run with dad while looking at Wolf's Den map and planning courses. | ||
Monday Mar 27 | ||
| Orienteering 1:30:20 [4] | ||
| Blue1(37:30 estimate), red3(28:30),green2(24:20), 91 relay courses at Houghtons Pond.. Hard workout with Dad, about 2 minutes rest between courses. | ||
Sunday Mar 26 | ||
| trail run 37:00 [3] | ||
| morning run with some of the others, a pretty quick pace. | ||
| trail run 1:15:00 [2] | ||
| again, running around to set controls, put out punches, pick up controls and general running around at the training camp. | ||
Saturday Mar 25 | ||
| track workout 5:47 [4] | ||
| ran 1 mile on the track in 5:47. At first I thought I would just run 2 800s at 3:00 each, but then I finished the first 800 and felt good so I just kept going and then ran the last 2 laps pretty much as hard as I could. It felt good, since I went pretty easy for the first half of the mile. I was surprised at how fast my time was! | ||
| trail run 2:00:00 [2] | ||
| At the Junior Training Camp. This is my running totaled from the day because I didn't time everything separately. It was running to and from the track, setting up controls, picking up controls, and sprinting back and forth on the line-o to watch my group. | ||
Friday Mar 24 | ||
| road run 8:00 [2] | ||
| warm up | ||
| road/trail run 20:00 [4] | ||
| Threshold run, by myself. I ran for 20 minute keeping my HR around 180 or so. Sometimes lower, sometimes higher since I was going up and down. I ran up Westfield steet and then around the loop in WIlson Mountain. | ||
| track workout 2:30 [5] | ||
| ran 4x200 on the track. Ran pretty much as hard as I could, although the barriers were up so I had to run around them - so maybe not exactly a 200. 37, 37, 39, 37 splits | ||
| road run 20:00 [2] | ||
| run home | ||
Thursday Mar 23 | ||
| road run 50:00 [2] | ||
| We were planning on running a track workout, but then one track was being used by the Northeastern track team and the other was being used for baseball practice. So, just a run around town instead. | ||
Wednesday Mar 22 | ||
| Orienteering 1:10:00 [2] *** | ||
| Ran a course in the Blue Hills, although didn't do all of it. Made a huge mistake because I wasn't using a compass. | ||
Tuesday Mar 21 | ||
| trail run 1:00:44 [4] | ||
| Skyline trail run. My fastest time ever! Faster by 6 minutes than any time this year. It helped that there were no mud puddles to run around. It felt much faster than past times. | ||
Monday Mar 20 | ||
| trail run 1:20:00 [2] | ||
| running around Hale with dad. | ||
Sunday Mar 19 | ||
| Event: Boston Area Training: Boojum | ||
| Orienteering 1:44:00 [1] 8.8 km (11:49 / km) | ||
| I can barely call what I did here orienteering or exercise, because I really just wandered around in the woods completely lost, confused, angry, frustrated and hopeless for almost 2 hours. The most frustrating day of the year so far. I couldn't find anything and I was going the wrong way on trails, running up the wrong hills, missing controls (I never did find them all) and going to 14 before 11 and then 17 before 16 after never finding 15.... disaster. | ||
| C • Don't let it get you down, som... 1 | ||
| trail run 20:14 [4] 3.28 km (6:10 / km) | ||
| to redeem myself I ran around the white course at a good pace and kept it up until I feel and bashed up my knee. I found all these control no problem. Nice confidence booster - I can still do a white course. | ||
Saturday Mar 18 | ||
| Note | ||
| Had class all day and got out later than I expected so I missed my running time. I'm going to see my younger cousin play Charlotte in Charlotte's Web tonight :) Sometimes you have to put running aside for other important things. Hopefully I will lift tonight when I get home. | ||
| lifting/strength 10:00 [1] | ||
Friday Mar 17 | ||
| Note | ||
| Had class in the evening, came home and did my reading for the next morning. | ||
Thursday Mar 16 | ||
| road/trail run 1:08:00 [2] | ||
| running around on the roads around dedham and in Wilson Mountain | ||
| track workout 4:00 [4] | ||
| did things like high knees, butt kicks and some strides to get some speed in there. | ||
Wednesday Mar 15 | ||
| Orienteering 1:22:00 [3] | ||
| an old course at Houghton's Pond with dad switching off legs. this time I even got to use a compass! :) | ||
Tuesday Mar 14 | ||
| road/trail run 18:00 [2] | ||
| running around for warm up and down at Peter's Hill | ||
| Orienteering 14:47 [5] *** 2.63 km (5:37 / km) | ||
| ran an old sprint course at Peter's Hill. Running pretty hard, but aware that I had to run hills afterwards (and find the controls) so not pushing quite all out. | ||
| trail run (hill sprints) 2:30 [5] | ||
| Did ~30 second intervals up Peter's Hill. I could not have run harder if my life depended on it, and still I couldn't shake dad. On my 5th sprint I was 3 seconds slower than my first. | ||

Monday Mar 13 | ||
| trail run 15:00 [1] | ||
| warm up/down | ||
| Orienteering 34:20 [3] | ||
| An orange course, switching off legs with dad and moving pretty quick. | ||
Sunday Mar 12 | ||
| trail run 2:00:00 [1] | ||
| long run with dad and ross on trails in Weston. | ||
Saturday Mar 11 | ||
| Note | ||
| day off today :) | ||
Friday Mar 10 | ||
| road run 35:00 [1] | ||
| rhr:51 weight:121lbs | ||
| to and from the track
And I lost weight again... back down to normal....
| track workout 13:30 [4] * | ||
| first track workout of the year. Was wearing the HR monitor, so tried to run at 180. Splits were 3:10, 3:21, 3:19, 3:21 with 40 seconds of rest between. The first one was faster because I was starting from rest and it took awhile to get my heartrate up. I was running at a bit above 180 because I jusrt couldn't slow myself down enough. Also, the gates were all up on the track, so I ran in the second lane and then cut into the grass on the inside to run around the inside of the gate.... usually this track does not bother locking their gates.... | ||
Thursday Mar 9 | ||
| trail run 1:33:00 [1] | ||
| rhr:54 | ||
| Dad and I explored a new area of trails. We spent a lot of time getting ourselves lost, and then coming back out to the road. We found really cool sprint terrain though - it's a public farm. It's open land, but with rolling hills, rock and trees - no underbrush! The route was pretty hilly so I was working hard at times, but then we would stop to figure out which way to go.
HR also on the rise this morning....
| lifting/strength 11:00 [1] | ||
Wednesday Mar 8 | ||
| Orienteering 50:00 [1] | ||
| a relocation exercise with dad at high Rock. Went well. | ||
Tuesday Mar 7 | ||
| trail run 1:06:33 [3] | ||
| rhr:52 weight:126lbs | ||
| skyine trail run. I was finishing up thinking "we better be under 65 minutes for how hard I'm working" and then we weren't. I felt much better today though than I have the past 2 days. Although my resting HR was rather high and I've managed to gain about 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks... I haven't had that many desserts...... | ||
| C • Weight 6 | ||
Monday Mar 6 | ||
| Orienteering 37:30 [2] *** | ||
| Ran an orange course with dad at Powisett Peak. Legs felt much better today, although still a bit tired. I came back from yesterday and feel asleep while Ross made dinner :) I think that not getting to sleep in this weekend made me more tired than usual. | ||
| Note | ||
| In February I trained 30 hours - 10 more than last February.
22 hrs running (16.5 last Feb.) 4.25 hrs Orienteering (0 last Feb.) 2.75 hrs xc skiing 1.25 hrs rowing 22 mins lifting So, I didn't do as much lifting as I thought I would... and I'm still not.
Sunday Mar 5 | ||
| trail run 1:26:21 [2] | ||
| went on a trail run with dad before the sprints. Felt quite tired, possible due to the fact that it was pretty hilly and I knew that I had two sprints to do when I finished. | ||
| Orienteering race 21:55 [4] *** | ||
| I decided to do the longer sprint first to get it out of the way. Navigationally, I had a pretty clean run, only hesitating twice when I stopped a bit short. Legs though were having a hard time going fast and it didn't feel as smooth as yesterday. Also slowing me, and everyone else, down was the brambles. Once during this race I got cought around the waist and couldn't go and further without backing up and another time around one ankle. | ||
| Orienteering race 15:55 [4] *** | ||
| I was so tired. Legs weren't moving, evenn on the trails where it was flat. I didn't have the energy to fight through the woods or run hard down the trails. Then I couldn't find the last control for awhile, wven though this course was supposed to be yellow difficulty... Just felt long. I finished and drank almost all the water I brought and ate 5 bananas :) | ||
Sprint 1 - Splits | ||
Sprint 2 - Splits | ||
Saturday Mar 4 | ||
| Orienteering 33:00 [5] *** | ||
| Ran a relay course around Blue Hills. I was running hard for all of it and it was a clean run! This might be one of the few runs where it is my speed slowing me down, not my orienteering! | ||
| trail run 12:00 [1] | ||
| warm up and down | ||
Friday Mar 3 | ||
| Note | ||
| I had class from 3:30 to 7:30 today, so didn't get a run in. I also have class from 8:30 to 4:30 tomorrow... | ||
Thursday Mar 2 | ||
| road run 43:00 [1] | ||
| To Westfield Street, down after running up and then back home. | ||
| road run (hill workout) 14:33 [4] | ||
| Ran twice up the Westfield Street mile twice again today- 7:13 and 7:21. I kept my heart rate at theshold... or tried to! It was so weird- last week when I ran I had times around 7:30. This time my heartrate was lower, around 180 and my times were much lower and I could tell I was working harder, although my heart rate didn't show it. I could feel myself pushing really hard up the hill, but if I let off a little bit my heart rate would drop to 175 and I would have to step it up again. I don't know what's up! | ||
| C • You're getting in better shape... 1 | ||
Wednesday Mar 1 | ||
| trail run 17:00 [1] | ||
| to and from the start | ||
| Orienteering 1:10:00 [2] *** | ||
| goal for this session was using the contours to navigate without a compass. Went well overall, although near the end, maybe because I was getting tired, I messed up two controls in a row, never even finding the first one. | ||
