xc skiing 3:15:00 [2]
Mom, dad, Hill, Ross and I drve up to Vermot to go xc skiing this weekend! We met the Rick, Linda and Lindsay Worner at mike and Vivien Fritz at Beaver Brook Fram (remember relay champs in 2002?). We skiied on their land on Saturday - they have more than 20k of trails that Mike grooms, but because of the large snowfall earlier in the week (over 2 feet), only 5k were groomed. Hill, Ross and I set out to "track" another trail, and most of the time was spent battling our way off trail. It was an effort of 1 when you were following on the flat, and an effort of 3 when you were in front. and trying to get up the hills... well, let's just say it was hysterical watching us try :) But we succeeded in breaking trail on a nice loop that we then went back and skied (taking us much less than half the time!).

Thursday Feb 15

trail run 20:00 [2]
running back from across the map. We had to head home before we finished the course because I had to meet with a professor.
Orienteering 40:00 [2]
did more memory orienteering! I think I am getting better at quickly looking at a map, simplifying it, and then running ti from memory. I have a good visual picture in my head as I am running. Something that I need to fix though: I say to myself "ok, first right at the trail junction and then second stone wall on the left." But it's really a left and then a right! I manage to fix it as I am running, because the visual picture doens't match my words, but that could be dangerous to tell myself the wrong thing!

Wednesday Feb 14

road run 5:00 [2]
Snow Day today! Which was really nice, since I was thinking about taking a day off from work to catch up on grad school work. I left the house to go running around 1, and I thought it was snowing, but it was really hailing. I tried to run in it, but it was stinging my face. And I decided that running with my hands over my face wasn't the best form. Headed home, and then it started raining, so running wasn't that pleasing.
lifting/strength (shoveling) 30:00 [1]
and this was WET snow shoveling. I was basically shoveling slushy snow. It's heavy. After shoveling, I had trouble getting my hand to grip a pencil. My arms could be in pain tomorrow..... but it was worth it for the SNOW DAY!

Orienteering 1:20:00 [1]
another memory-o in the Blue Hills with dad. This one was harder than previous ones, with the controls being in a more technical area. Also the map was a bit off in places. We did spend a fair amount of this time walking or standing around trying to figure out where we were.

Monday Feb 12

road run 45:00 [2]
to and from the track and also the jogging between 400s.
track workout 5:30 [5]
ran 4x400. My goal was to run them at 80, and I didn't quite make it. I ran 86, 81, 82, 81 with about 2 minutes of jogging rest between. It also may have not exactly 400 meters. The track I run at is locked up. So I ran in the fifth lane, stepping over two of the barriers (they were just ropes), but one barrier was too high and so I had to run on the inside of the track around it. Dad and I think it was about 400m give or take some.

Sunday Feb 11

trail run 2:10:00 [2]
a long trail run. Ran with Dad, Ross and Dean and then Dean cut off after about a half hour. The weather was beautiful, around freezing and sunny.
