Friday Feb 23 | ||
| Orienteering 51:40 [2] | ||
| Ran an o course around Hammond Pond with dad. The typical switching legs and memorizing as we go. It snowed last night and the ground is perfect. Dad calls it the styrofoam effect - the snow is soft, yet crunchy, and you sink into it just enough to get really good stick. Beautiful running! | ||
Thursday Feb 22 | ||
| road run 5:40 [2] | ||
| track drills - high knees, butt kicks, karoke (?) , backwards running. | ||
| road run 40:00 [2] | ||
| running around Dedham with dad, followed by about 50 minutes of me playing catching features... and getting lost :)
It's difficult to run around here. The trails are pretty mcuh too icy to run on (even with my spikes it's difficult (maybe because half my spikes are ripped out of my oshoes, I really should buy new ones)). The sidewalks aren't properly shoveled, and they are too icy as well, so you have to run in the street. But then there are big puddles inthe street and you get splashed. Dad and I checked out the track today in hopes that maybe it was sunny enough to melt - nope, all ice. That leaves running in the woods :) Which explains my increase in o training this month and decrease in trail running.
Wednesday Feb 21 | ||
| Orienteering 51:00 [2] | ||
| Did part of an o course in the Blue Hills. Memory-o again, with dad and I switching off legs. | ||
Tuesday Feb 20 | ||
| road run 55:00 [1] | ||
| ran over to Westfield Street hill with dad. This also includes the time we spent running back down the hill. | ||
| road run (hills) 21:00 [3] | ||
| ran 3 times up Westfield Street, supposedly at threshold. The hr monitor doesn't quite work well on me, so I tried to keep a steady pace, but I think the first two hills were a bit fast. I think my HR was between 180 and 184 for most of the way.
times: 7:10 7:06 7:20 arms especially were tired - probably from skiing. legs tired - probably from sledding :)
| Note | ||
| I've decided that I'm going to Umstead in a few weeks. I still have to work out my flight details but I am trying to arrive Thursday night, or Friday morning, and stay at the dorms.
Is anyone else arriving around then that could drive me to the dorms?? Or is anyone staying at the dorms that could squeeze me into their car to get to the meet?

Monday Feb 19 | ||
| lifting/strength (hill climbing, sledding) 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| Another 2 hours this morning of sledding :) We started out on the same track, and Lindsay built a new one, that soon was so trashed by people falling while going down that you couldn't really get down without falling out.
I woke up this morning, and everyone was complaining about how cold it was outside. I looked at the digital thermometer and it read 22 degrees F. Not so bad, until someone told me I had the decimal in teh wrong place... brrr! I had on 4 layers of pants, and 5 layers on top, gloves, mittens, two hats, three pairs of socks, boots, and a scarf. That made getting up out of the snow after you feel off your sled even more difficult!
Sunday Feb 18 | ||
| xc skiing 2:15:00 [2] | ||
| We skiied at Craftsbury Outdoor Center on Sunday. Great trails, and it wasn't too busy. I didn't bring my skate skis this weekend, so mostly classic skiing. | ||
| lifting/strength (hill climbing, sleeding) 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| Hill, Ross, Lindsay and I went sledding on a great hill at Mike and Vivien's for over 2 hours. Try climbing up hill in over 2 feet of snow - it's a workout! We finally packed down a track that we could sled down, and over 100 steps next to it that we could climb up. The track was soon very bumpy, for as soon as someone hit the snow harder than the person before them, we had a depression. As you went down the hill there were at least 3 times where your sled wasn't touching the snow. Then of course if you fell out of your sled, trying to get up in two feet of snow is difficult too! You try to put your hand down to help you up and it just goes into the snow without reaching the bottom! Everyone else was watching us from the house and giving up scores based on our runs. I got a 10+ for running Lindsay over :) | ||
