Orienteering 32:00 [3]
My class was canceled today because of the snow. It actually was fine weather today, but the forcast was bad last night and my professor canceled it. I went to the NEOC junior run meet and ran the sprint. It was difficult to run in the woods because I broke through the crust on the snow every step, but then the crust would hit my shin when I tried to lift my foot. And on the way to 3 you had to cross through a marsh. I waded through ankle deep water and when I punched 3 I couldn't feel my feet. I thought about turning around and going back, but I knew the only way ot make my feet feel better was to try and run on them. I stumbled along until the pain came back, and then finally they warmed up.
Orienteering 25:00 [2]
picking up yellow controls. Trying hard to keep my feet from going into puddles.

Thursday Mar 15

trail run 48:00 [2]
trail running with dad at Hale. It's getting colder again, but the snow has melted for now (we're supposed to get more this weekend). The trails were incredibly muddy and we were slipping around. At time the mud went over the top of my shoe. 20 minutes of warm up and 28 minutes of cool down.
trail run (threshold) 20:00 [3]
Threshold run. Ran for 20 minutes with HR around 180 (a bit lower than the Westfield street hills, but that's shorter and it's easier to get the HR up because I'm running uphill the whole time). It felt good and maybe i could have kept going longer. Dad drew a trail route on the map that I was to follow and I only went the wrong way once :) I realized it though and turned around. The mud made it difficult to go fast, but I was able to keep the HR up most of the time.

Tuesday Mar 13

trail run 1:05:00 [3]
Blue Hills skyline run with dad. The ice has finally melted - and turned the trails into mud! It's funny though, because I was running in shorts and a tshirt today and it's supposed to snow Sunday... oh well!

The ground has thawed quickly making a gap underneath the crust where there was once ice. On parts of the trail in the beginning we had to be careful as we were running that we would not punch through the top crust of the dirt down through about 2 inches of space underneath. It was really weird.

I thought the time would be slower, with cautious running in the beginning and not having run this in awhile.

road biking 53:00 [2]
rode from Dedham to Trader Joe's in Needham with dad to pick up groceries. A beautiful day in the 50s! Maybe now most of the ice has melted on the trails...
C • you need ice bugs for the wint... 7

Sunday Mar 11

trail run 5:00 [2]
We went out to Wells today to do some training with the old A-meet maps from last spring. There was more snow out there, but less ice. The warm weather has made the running possible, although difficult. Running in a couple inches of snow is harder than usual! The jog to the start was a bit longer than it should have been since everyone was following me and I missed the trail :)
Orienteering 1:09:00 [2]
Ran the Blue course from day 1 at Wells state park, which was a short coruse. Everyone there broke up into groups and J-J and I ran together, doing the course memory-o style, trading off legs. It was difficult running, and we both felt like the person leading was running fast. I guess that shows you how much you slow down when you are reading the map. I made a few mistakes here and there, but one would probably not have happened if controls were out, and the other I could have corrected more quickly if I had the map to look at.

A difficult workout, and my legs were tired from the past 2 days. They are quite sore and tired this evening.
Note
I have clicked the "recovered" button on my ankle injury! It's not completely pain free all the time, but I can run whole o courses without it hurting now. Still, if I step on something wrong I get a shot of pain, but that goes away after a minute. I am still trying to go to physical therapy (if they ever get back to me) to see about really healing up permanently. But I'm feeling much, much better and am confident running on it.
C • Yay! 5
