| First day of training in Australia. Cold and rainy! The sun might have peeked out when we were running, but as soon as we got back it started raining again. Ross and I made up a course for the juniors and then we went out and got all the controls, trading off legs. The van wouldn't start this morning. Later a mechanic will visit and spray Start Ya Bastard in the start thingy and it will start! From now on, Tom has to use Start Ya Bastard every morning... |

| THe last day in Carlsbad. Ross and I got up early to go running before the heat and the people on the beach. We decided to run down the beach to the pier. We began running in the softer sand, but after about 5 minutes of that we moved to the harder sand. The tide was further out than last time, which meant we could actually run along the beach and not have to run on the rocks if we timed ti well. I timed one badly, and ended up with my foot in the surf over my ankle. Lots of people out surfing and others walking the beach. Took about 33 minutes to run to the pier and then we ran back.
Took the train back to LA and we will be leaving for the airport in about an hour. Then the long flight to Australia... |

 | road/trail run 1:27:00 [2] | |

| Ross and I took the bus down to the lagoon. We got dropped off and decided that maybe the trail started on the other side of the lagoon. So we ran across the lagoon on the road, but then proceeded to run down the sidewalk of a main road to the end of the lagoon. We then started on a trail that we thought would go up the opposite side of the lagoon, but we ran into private property, but we could see the trail where we wanted to be on the other side. After slogging through mud and past palm trees, we made our way back out to the residential street and followed that around. Then we were probably only running on the trail for 15 minutes! When it ended, we had to wind our way through some residentail streets, to get back to the main road where the bus would pick us up again. Just as we were appraoching the road, our bus passed us. Knowing that we would now have to wait another half hour for the next bus to show up, we ran down the main road until it ran out of sidewalk and then waited at the bus stop. Ross had stored our bus tickets in his pocket and they were rather damp, so the wait time provided us an opportunity to dry out the tickets. |

| Ross and I went boogie boarding. It was a blast! After boogieing (I don't know what word to use here) in on the waves, we then had to run back out into the ocean. It was hard work! And scary at times when I saw the waves barreling down at me. I once got completly knocked over and turned around by a wave, and another time torn off my boogie bord by one. I totally can boogie board better than Ross, although after a few pointers he was doing much better :) Earlier when I had run down the beach, I noticed that not too many of the people were in the water and some had wet suits on. I was hesitant the whole time about going in. But really, the people are just wimps! They have obviously never swam in the Atlantic- where your feet start to go numb if you stand around. |

 | road run 1:00:00 [2] | |

| Ross's grandmother told us about a 3 mile trail around a lagoon only about 1 mile away. We set out after lunch and ran, and ran, and ran and never arrived at the lagoon. Eventually we gave up and turned around to run back home. The run was along the main road along the beach, which isn't as nice as the beach itself, but I don't think either of us were up to struggling in the sand again today. Tomorrow we plan on takig the bus down the road to the lagoon and running from there. |

| Ross and I arrived in Carlsbad, CA this afternoon to visit his grandmother. We decided to head out onto the beach to go running. The beacj was quite crowded with people who we had to run skillfully around. I forgot how difficult it is to run on sand! Good ankle workout. It's beautiful weather here, warm, but not humid. Ross's grandmother's retirement community is beautiful, with a view of the Pacific. |
