| Day 1 of the Boulder Dash. A pretty bad race for me overall. I began thinking that I had a great attackpoint and plan to #1, but I missed when I went over the hill and stood around trying to figure it out. The next couple of controls were green, and I again would wander in the correct direction, only to have to stop to figure out where I was going. My real problem came on #13, where I made a parallel error and ran up the wrong reentrant, which wasn't really shown on the map. I wasndered around, actually thought maybe I went too far, which wasn't the case, and went all the way back to #12 to try again. This time I just followed my compass and figured out quickly what I did the first time. Not very confident during the race and had no good plans or flow. |

| A easy run around Dedham with Hill and mom. My leg hurt quite a bit during most of it, but I think eventually I stopped limping... |

| Went for a long run with Hill and Dad in the Blue Hills. I haven't done a long run since before WOC, so it's been awhile. We ran on trails, and a bit on the part of the skyline trail that I hardly ever run, plus a bit through the woods when we lost the trail. And now I can't walk properly :) My legs are hurting, especially my left thigh muscle. I'm hoping it's just sore and I didn't do anything serious to it. I feel like a weakling :) |

| Did a course out at Baldwin Hill with Hill :) Joe Sackett and Alexei joined Dad, Hill and I as well. It was a beautiful fall day that always reminds me of orienteering - I was glad to be out there! |

| I had a hard time warming up because I was tired and I wasn't quite sure how long Hill would take and when I would need to be ready. |

| So Team Killer Bunnies from NEOC, consisting of Tim Parson on first leg (first place!), Phil Bricker on second leg (first place!) and Hill on third leg (2nd place!) and me on last leg. I was actually quite nervous, but I did the first loop well. I took good routes, not moving too fast and having to walk some of the uphills (I was so tired), but finding all the controls. Then I came through the spectator control about 40 seconds behind Joe, having caught up some time. I messed around a bit on the small loop right before the map exchange, not being clean and ruching everything. Then at the map exchange I tried to run the wrong way :) I missed #17 by a bit to the left, and had to stop to figure it tou, and then I drifted too far to my right going to #18 and again had to stop quickly to relocate. Then Joe really killed me on the downhill run to #19 - even though I made no mistakes he really pulled ahead of me there. He gained back about another 40 seconds after the spectator control. With a clean race, it might have been a photo finish.....
We took second place, which is still quite impressive and we were the only top team with 2 females :) |
