trail run 10:00 [1]
warming up with Hill around the parking area.
Orienteering 58:36 [4]
A much better race. I was navigating well from the beginning and feeling mostly confident with my routes. #5 was a short compass leg and as I was leaving #4 I said to myself "Ok, short compass leg. On short legs you can only lose time, not gain time. So go slowly and make sure you stay on your compass. Even pace count." Of course, I'm saying this to myself as I am running blindly in sortof the right direction after leaving the control the wrong way. Of course, I miss the control, stand around, and then figure it out. I had the right advice, I just didn't listen to myself :) A few more times when I had to stop and relocate later on in the course as well - #8, #12, #15, but overall much better than yesterday and something I can work with!

Red Day 2 - Splits

Saturday Sep 29

Event: Boulder Dash 2007

trail run 10:00 [1]
warming up around the field with Hill before we started.
Orienteering 1:07:37 [4]
Day 1 of the Boulder Dash. A pretty bad race for me overall. I began thinking that I had a great attackpoint and plan to #1, but I missed when I went over the hill and stood around trying to figure it out. The next couple of controls were green, and I again would wander in the correct direction, only to have to stop to figure out where I was going. My real problem came on #13, where I made a parallel error and ran up the wrong reentrant, which wasn't really shown on the map. I wasndered around, actually thought maybe I went too far, which wasn't the case, and went all the way back to #12 to try again. This time I just followed my compass and figured out quickly what I did the first time. Not very confident during the race and had no good plans or flow.

Red Day 1 - Splits

Friday Sep 28

road run 43:00 [1]
A easy run around Dedham with Hill and mom. My leg hurt quite a bit during most of it, but I think eventually I stopped limping...

Wednesday Sep 26

trail run 2:09:00 [2]
Went for a long run with Hill and Dad in the Blue Hills. I haven't done a long run since before WOC, so it's been awhile. We ran on trails, and a bit on the part of the skyline trail that I hardly ever run, plus a bit through the woods when we lost the trail. And now I can't walk properly :) My legs are hurting, especially my left thigh muscle. I'm hoping it's just sore and I didn't do anything serious to it. I feel like a weakling :)

Note
Happy Birthday Hill!!! (She's 23 today!)
Orienteering 1:16:00 [2]
Did a course out at Baldwin Hill with Hill :) Joe Sackett and Alexei joined Dad, Hill and I as well. It was a beautiful fall day that always reminds me of orienteering - I was glad to be out there!
