Friday Dec 7

rowing machine 35:00 [1]
Erging again while watching Buffy. I didn't make it the full 42 minutes of the show, but 35 is 10 more than last time.

My winter training break has begun! A few weeks before and longer than initially planned, but I'm probably taking about a month off from running. Hopefully I'll do more erging and strength training. Then Ross and I head to the Galapagos Islands on the 23rd for almost 2 weeks, where there will be plenty of hiking and walking around for exercise. Now, I'm just trying to get through the end of the semester - 1 more week!

Tuesday Dec 4

rowing machine 25:00 [1]
The plan was to go for a long run... but the training schedule for the next month has changed. But 25 minutes of erging is the most I've done in a long time. I wasn't pulling hard and was watching Buffy at the same time, which made it much better :)

Sunday Dec 2

Event: Blue Hills Traverse

Orienteering 1:59:38 [3] 13.6 km (8:48 / km)
I ran with Hill the whole way, which was more or less planned. We have fun running together and run about the same speed. Hill seemed like she might pull away from me at times, especially on the uphill trail sections, but either she slowed down because she felt bad for me, or I hung on. We traded off leading, and although we had a slow start, we ended we.. We finished only 10 minutes behind Ross who was the winner. Hill should have beat me but she ran by the last control, running instead to a white control. Also running with Steve Olafson on and off, as he would take a slightly different route, but then we would see him again. I saw the leaders leaving 18 as Hill and I were approaching 17. Right after that Hill slipped on the hillside and when she grabbed a tree it pulled her epunch off. I didn't realize it, so I started running down the hill after Hill just as she was turning back up the hill and she headbutted me right in the stomach. We found her epunch after a fairly short search and as we were running away Hill mentioned how she just headbutted me in the stomach. Immediately, we both started singing the tune from Muppets Christmas Carol when the boy muppet in the choir on the streets gets hit in the face with a cymbal and starts to headbutt the boy who did it to him. It's our favorite part of that wonderful movie. Ahh, good time had by us out in the woods :)
