| Run with Hill and Ross around Newton. I wasn't going to go, even though both Hill and Ross were going out for a short run. What convinced me was the beautiful weather! I stepped outside to help Ross with the groceries and realized how beautiful it was. Then I just couldn't justify staying inside to finish my homework. So now it's Sunday night after the Billygoat and I'm trying to write a paper. |

| Running the course set for a local meet a couple of weekends ago at Rocky Woods. Some trouble in the beginning, missing the first 3 or so controls. Then really missing #6 (still not sure what I did even after going back when I was done) but then settled into it. Hill, Dad and I went out and although we started at the same time we became separated in the beginning. The woods were very thick and the running speed was slow. The rain held off. |

| Running around Newton with Hill on this beautiful day! It's about 70 and sunny outside. Legs were tired and felt a bit dehydrated (although I drink an incredible amount of water these days). |

| Woohoo! I have a job offer for next year! Starting in September I will be a second grade teacher in the Needham Public Schools (unless something goes horribly wrong between now and then... like me telling them I will be gone all summer...). It's not 4th grade, which I was really hoping for, but I have lots of experience in 2nd grade and I know that I love the school that I will be working in. Yay!..... now to graduate from grad school..... |

| A run around Newton this time with my high school running buddy. Legs tired from yesterday and this weekend. Good pace. I could talk and tell stories, but was a bit short on breath and it was better when she was telling a story and I could just listen :) |

| Running over to the Wilson Mountain trail loop with Hill. I have a cold :( My flight out of Columbus on Sunday was delayed an hour, which meant that I was going to miss my connection in New York. The man working at the delta terminal was very nice, although stressed out, and found me a seat on a United Flight that went through Charlotte, NC. Unfortunately, that didn't leave Columbus until 7:50 and got into Boston at 12:25 am (as opposed to my scheduled 9 pm arrival time). Luckily, I met Cristina, Eric and Viktoria outside of security as they were arriving for their flights, and hung around with them until my flight left. We were delayed leaving Charlotte though, and I didn't get home until 2 am. So now I am sleepy and sniffly. |

| Ran two loops of the Wilson Mountain trail with Hill., HR monitor not working at all reliably. We were running a bit faster than threshold is my guess, especially on the second loop. Times were 13:51 and 13:45. |

| Ultra-long at the Pig. I was nervous about the distance, but once I started it was fine. I finished and felt like I could keep on going for quite awhile, although my legs had no speed. Therefore I kept up a steady but fairly easy pace the whole way. The running (and swimming) was slow - muddy trails, marshy and dense light green, steep reentrant and deep streams. The trails were nice because you didn't have to navigate, but they were probably slower than running in the woods. I lost about a minute each longer leg to Annabel. We took very different routes to many of the controls, but even when we went similar ways I still lost time. I hesitated, bounced around, and stopped to double check things on my map. I need to work on being more fluid as I run the longer legs. I made a route choice error to #15 (when I went for a cold, cold swim) and lost about 2 minutes. I saw the "best" route, but thought it was too far out of the way. I had been going around everything and I was worried that it was the wrong decision. It wasn't. Then I messed up #18, which was basically a trail run. I made the same mistake lots of others did by runnig up the paved trail. Only it took me awhile to realize it. When I cut back down to the stream, I didn't realize that there were two streams. So I followed the wrong one into the thicket, figured it out, but still came out above the control in the campground. Lost about 3 minutes there. I was running with blue runners from 15, to 16, to 17 and I though they were running the last loop with me. When they headed off 90 degrees in the "wrong" direction from 17 I realized they were going to a different control, but I think it still threw me. Plus, I was a bit shaken by the swim. I'm not a strong swimmer, and I didn't expect the water to go over my head. A bit of panic set in and I let it distract me in the last loop. I think the course was really well set up, with lots of route choice that kept you on your toes and helped the 2 hours fly by! I'm reminded that I need to work on my orienteering "flow" - whatever that really is and how you work on it, I'm not sure...
I had a wonderful weekend and I'm thrilled that I had the opportunity to race! Thanks!! |
