| 6 x 400 with 2-3 minutes of rest. It was not my idea to run 6 400s, but the idea was to do one more than last time. Times: 74, 74, 75, 80, 77, 75. I was so done after 3. We had 2 minutes of rest between the ones in the beginning, but then moved closer to 3 minutes at the end. I think I hit a low point mentally and physically on the 4th. My times are slower each time I do these. Maybe it's the knowledge that I have to run more of them? And the first time I didn't know what I was getting myself into. Now I know.
Came home and almost fell asleep on the couch, which is usually Ross's job. But then I made myself get up, shower and I made coffee. Now I feel awake, although a bit jittery :)

| Dad and I drove over to Blue Hills to run hills on the Blue Hills access road which is paved and runs up from the bottom to the top. We went for a trail run to warm up.
I bought more plane tickets today! I have been stressing out about buying them because prices are going up and times are not what I wanted. But I just sucked it up and bought them so I can finally sleep at night.

| road run (hills) 32:00 [5] | ||
| shoes: Asics 1130 | ||
| 4 times up the Blue Hill access road. Times: 7:53, 8:14, 7:53, 8:09. I was daydreaming on the second one and so pushed hard on the third, trying to get close to 7:30. Although I was working hard, I still only tied the first time. Then the fourth one I was pushing just as hard, and slower still! But I guess that means it was a good workout. | ||

| road biking 1:31:00 [2] | ||
| Went for a bike ride with dad. The weather seems to have jumped from early spring to summer with it being humid and hot today. Biked around after dad and my legs were burning going up hills. We had to stop for awhile at the end as they were filming a movie in Wilson Mountain and they closed down the road. Then they would let 10 cars through and close the road again for another 5 minutes. | ||

| Fresh Pond Sprint. Spent a lot of time looking for #2, but it was hung on the opposite side of the tracks, and the feature it was supposed to be on didn't exist. Will have to compare splits with Ross to see how much time I really spent standing around. Otherwise, I felt tired. | ||
| trail run 10:00 [1] | ||

| running loops around the lot before the sprint and picking up some controls afterwards. | ||

| Wandering around on the model map for warmup. It's rockier than yesterday and the mapped boulders seemed very small. I was worried about having to find one of those on an empty hillside and reminded myself to pick safe routes with good attacks! | ||

| I really enjoyed running this course. I was relaxed and didn't freak out on myself when I chose the wrong route to #7, the first long leg. I didn't really choose any route, which was the problem and I just made it up as I went along, which led to a mess of a route.
The first control was nice and easy, which is a great way to start a course. I was moving along quite well in the beginning, although still stopping completely to read the map. I don't think I really noticed I was doing it at the time, but looking back I remember how often I stopped. Actual inability to read the map on the run, or just lack of confidence? I missed #9, even though I ran up the hill on the trail, and came rigt under the cliff. I drifted too low on the hillside, pushed down by the junk and steep slope. Stood for a bit below the control so sure I was in the correct reentrant. I was - just too low. Should have stayed above the cliffs before it. A bit of trouble finding #13 after coming off the campus and was a bit high as I almost rean to the wrong control. Last control was tricky - opposite of the first control! After a bit of confusion I just ran towads the field and then towards the end of the chute. I'm happy with the race and the fact that I made no big mistakes, but I have to work on my flow while executing a leg so that I can actually run, instead of constantly stopping.

| Middle Distance Race at Team Trials.
Middle distance races are certainly not my favorite and I especially seem to struggle during this race on Team Trials weekend. I knew it would be technical so I resolved to be slow and careful. This plan worked fairly well, although I baubled a few controls and lost at least 30 seconds (1 I missed and hit the swamp beyond it, 5 I also missed and had to cut back through the green, 9 I overran and had to stop at the top of the steep bank before turning around and finding it behind me). I also ran about 30 seconds up the trail the wrong way after crossing the road to #11. I really missed #6, coming off the spur in the wrong spot and crossing the stream only to hit the vege boundary. Even once I knew I was there I still had trouble and I ended up going back to the stream and attempting to find the bend. I didn't find the bend, but I found the hill and small pond to the west of the control. I lost about 2 minutes there. Despite all this, I feel ok about the race because I never had the completely lost with no way out feeling that I have felt in my last few races. Eveyone else had trouble too so I ended up finishing well despite all the mistakes. On a positive note, I was much more in control than in the past, even though it meant giving up a lot of my speed. I find myself having to stop to look at the map - maybe I need glasses?
