Two years ago I was orienteering and ran through a huge patch of fall chanterelles (trattkantarell). When Hill came to visit that year we ran out there the night she arrived to go pick them. I decided to go back out today to see if there was still a large patch. So out to my secret stash, and there it was! A really good patch of moss covered with trattkantarell. I wandered the area a bit more and found about 5 beautiful yellow chanterelles, but no more large patches. You have to go through a green swamp to find the patch and it's below a giant cliff, so it's not surprising that no one else has been to pick there. It's been a really wet fall, so I think the mushroom growing conditions are quite good.
This morning we went as a family to Lunsen and hiked only 1km in to a small cabin and picnic area. We also found lots of mushrooms just along that trail. It's a popular place for families to go hike and I guess none of them bother to stop and look for mushrooms. We parked there just after 9am, so we were the only people at the cabin, but saw 4 or 5 families heading out on the trail as we were walking back. Ells slept almost the entire time in the front pack and Sofie enjoyed looking for mushrooms... as long as we didn't take too long.
