cycling 1:50:00 [2] 35.5 km (19.4 kph)
shoes: Ridley Pave

Freshers ride with the cycling club, very social and nice that there are a growing number of girls!!
Probably what I needed, took it extremely easy! went out to ringinglow via sandygate, then over burbage bridge and back round to fox house then into dore for a pub stop with the MTBers and back via hunters bar.
got a little chilly at the pub, should have taken long sleeves for the stop.
witnessed the closest thing to some1 hitting a car I've ever seen after one guy clipped a wheel. Nearly gave me a heart attack but he seemed not to notice how close he'd been...
right ITB is now in a massive knot

Note
(sick)

Sore throat developed this morning and neck feels a bit poofy after ride. think I might do a bit of resting before Ian Hodgsons on Sunday

Note

Oooo I can feel the circuits! Last night was a classic first yr monday night, where you go to the pub and then don't make it home until 3am! Wasn't planning on drinking, then won a round of the txt game and hartmann produced a JD,sambuca, apple sours mix as my prize...more than enough to keep me dancing in Harley til 3. Still not a patch on Dave or GG for drunk, I wonder if 'Becks' the fresher used her real number...
Quite tempted to go and make a lot of noise near Dave about now....I think he'd appreciate that....

Running warm up/down 6:00 [1] 0.8 mi (7:30 / mi)

Running hills 20:00 [4] 1.9 mi (10:32 / mi) +95m 9:07 / mi

Hill reps on rosilin road - set off and thought I was going to get dropped and lapped loads, but then people settled down after racing off and I started to move back past people - kept it consistent and tried to push fairly hard. managed 19 reps, would have done 20 if I'd sped down hill for the last one but I wasn't quite feeling it...
Not done this session before but felt so much better than the last time I ran with ShUOC.
Thought back to this time last year and I feel so different! I missed going out after freshers meal last year and wasn't training frequently coz I was so nackered - bring on population this year! Think I might have finally got back to as fit as I was at the start of 1st yr...

Running warm up/down 14:48 [1] 1.55 mi (9:33 / mi)

circuits 30:00 [4]
shoes: New balance trainers

Ow - kind of stopped doing any circuits after Israel, and what I did before wasn't enough to keep the strength...good first session back feeling :-)

circuits warm up/down 15:00 [2]

At circuits - didn't run there or back or afterwards today

Mountain Biking race 1:33:20 [5] 18.0 km (11.6 kph)
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

1st ever pure MTB race - got there too late to reccy which cost me on the 1st lap as I got my bearings with fogged up glasses, then a lens fell out of my glasses so had to stop and faffed. Resulted in 2 women going past oops.
Second lap got my head together and from there on was playing catch up. Was very happy that I rode better on each lap, there were only 2 areas I had to dismount and one was due to not enough momentum to clear the other side of a drop.
Did some v.technical descending including a rocky/paved bit that the photographer who was there said he always walked!!
Got my confidence with cleats up a lot, might even do some more racing - burned legs like nothing else though!!!

lap 1 (longer): 25:09
lap 2 (beasting it!): 20:41
lap 3: 21:47
lap 4: 25:06 (running low on energy, should have had gel then would have got a 5th in!!)

Note

Andy just informed me I was 4th - should have stopped wussing and got a 5th lap in, then I would have got a kwl trophy thing!

cycling 59:21 [3] 12.75 mi (12.9 mph) +229m
shoes: Ridley Pave

Ride with Wil, Matt Gaz and Zanthe out up to ingrids then over sandygate to ringinglow...lost zanthe so doubled back to find her - turns out she was in a bush fixing her bike and we missed her completely!
Pushed it hard up some of the hills with matt and wil, legs starting to feel a lot better than they have! yey!

Running race 57:09 [2] 6.1 mi (9:22 / mi) +381m 7:51 / mi

You know when you've done too much....then you do a race....well that was yesterday then we went to pop tarts!
Bit of a non starter wth the stanage struggle - was half hearted attempt to come in the top 10....probably 12th or something.
after the climb onto the edge I decided it was far too nice a day with pretty views to bother killing myself so lost a load of places but had a very nice run....I even got overtaken going downhill, my legs could do with sitting down for a month or so, I feel really fit atm but just constantly have lead legs!

Saturday Sep 19, 2009 #

Running race 45:51 [4] 5.0 mi (9:10 / mi) +320m 7:39 / mi

Lantern pike fell race - slow conditions with lots of humidity! Pennine ladys ruled with 4 in the top 6 women, looks like we'll have the best team we've had for years at the FRA relays!
Big race with 250 odd entrants! felt a bit like a championship race! Had an ok run finished 6th, legs still don't feel like theyve recovered much...debating about tomorrow but I quite want a t-shirt :-)

Thursday Sep 17, 2009 #

Running 1:04:15 [3] 6.0 mi (10:43 / mi) +255m 9:28 / mi

Pennine training, up highgate road to the dragons back, along over mt famine, down dimpers clough then back through fields opposite. first 15 mins were effort 2 warm up but then ran quite hard, well as hard as I could after dimpers when it got dark....I didn't have a torch...

Rest days back on track - legs have been left alone long enough to ache now...

Tuesday Sep 15, 2009 #

Note

orienteering 18:45 [4] 2.4 km (7:49 / km)

Club champs on Inshriach North - was pretty clean, mebbe 30s error - legs were shot though so not much speed after control 5 - very happy with this run!

orienteering 36:26 [3] 3.3 km (11:02 / km)

Course around Inshriach North - scrappy - made about 30s error on 1 and then a couple of minutes on 3 by overshooting it. Then we hit the open and my legs didnt have enough energy to run well over it - ankle twisting heaven! after that was fine, had a few good spikes

orienteering 20:28 [2] 1.85 km (11:04 / km)

Line course - didnt run hard at all - bit of a warm up, came off course twice though, oops

Friday Sep 11, 2009 #

orienteering 37:09 [2] 2.0 km (18:35 / km)

Inshriach West - oh dear - found 2 controls I meant to and then 2 that I didn't mean to and gave up - I am yet to have a good run on that area!

orienteering race 15:00 [4]

Odds and evens relay - on team with ash and JT - ran hard! we came 2nd

Thursday Sep 10, 2009 #

cycling 50:00 [3] 9.8 mi (11.8 mph)
shoes: Ridley Pave

Cycle up cairngorm

Running 50:00 [1]

Run to top of cairngorm then down a bit- legs cannot function up hill at all - walked most of the way with helen - could manage a run for about 30m before legs gave way

cycling 25:00 [4] 9.8 mi (23.5 mph)
shoes: Ridley Pave

Ride back from cairngorm - reached 70.7 km/h on the way down - gaz beat me by 1km/h - gonna have to improve on that next yr!
Rode hard with matt and helen on the way back to try and catch up to wil and zanthe who set off first!

Wednesday Sep 9, 2009 #

orienteering 16:09 [3] 1.5 km (10:46 / km)

Culbin East - control pick - didn't feel very in touch with the map at all - but didnt cock up so must have been doing something right! Legs are shattered still

orienteering 16:24 [4] 1.85 km (8:52 / km)

Race on culbin - got it all spot on but couldnt run fast, kept seeing rose and not being able to chase her - then had some fight with a spiders web and a spider..

Tuesday Sep 8, 2009 #

orienteering 31:29 [3] 2.9 km (10:51 / km)

Loch Vaa - overshot 2 and lost about 2 mins but other than that clean and kept rhys in sight...after he passed me

orienteering 11:23 [3] 1.65 km (6:54 / km)

Loch Vaa - control pick - not had a run that smooth ever - caught up to charli and rhys going to 2 so decided to concentrate on control flow to get ahead and leave charli without distraction - and it worked perfectly - lost 10secs mebbe but thats it! Im starting to have the odd moment of excellent orienteering atm - hopefully will be able to make it a more consistant thing!

Monday Sep 7, 2009 #

orienteering 21:14 [1] 2.3 km (9:14 / km)

Some very straight legged running on Moor of Alvie - hurt loads! followed zanthe round by chance

cycling 23:00 [3] 8.8 km (23.0 kph)

Ow Ow Ow - legs screwed - cycle to moor of alvie - couldnt keep up with the pelaton (who weren't even going that fast) so hit the fully brunt of the wind - paying for yesterday

Sunday Sep 6, 2009 #

Running race 3:09:11 [3] 16.0 mi (11:49 / mi) +1234m 9:32 / mi

Exterminator - shouldn't really have started - legs still feeling C2C waaaay too much - started off well but just unable to run uphill at all! took it easy on the climbs and then ran a bit harder - was in 3rd position by the 2nd checkpoint then dropped a couple as pippa weir was close behind and strong on the hills! alternated between 5th on the climbs and 4th on the descents for most of the race - at about 10miles my legs completely gave up and I was running on empty - dont quite know how I finished!
Dropped to 6th coming out of Hathersage then caught her up again before taking a longer route towards the last checkpoint. Overtook her again and came in in 5th - nothing left in my legs at all!
Lovely route though!

Thursday Sep 3, 2009 #

cycling 31:30 [3] 6.0 km (11.4 kph) +500m

climb up col d'aspin - couldnt find bike hire any lower down so settled for ride up on mtb and then head into the forest - legs seem happy to ride still, think theyve resigned themselves to the fact that I'm making them do stuff - exterminator might be difficult on sunday when its running though

Mountain Biking 40:00 [3]

looping around in forest - descent from col d'aspin

Note

don't think the guy that hired the bikes expected where we were going - his map of routes didn't go near the col or more than 5km from his shop on the flat

Wednesday Sep 2, 2009 #
