Running 1:02:00 [3] 5.8 mi (10:41 / mi) +353m 8:59 / mi
shoes: Mudclaw 270s

Pennine headtorch run - elle bank, dragons back, mt famine, south head and back via christines gate. ITB best its been for ages! Was running at the front of the fast group most of the time to give it a proper test. 50mins in it started to niggle, 60mins it was a bit upset (after lots of downhill) - will be interesting to see what happens on Sunday....

Tuesday Sep 28, 2010 #

Note

Went to see kim again - loosened off the ITB - less painful than last time but still not entirely comfortable :-P! hopefully will manage to keep it happy for the weekend!

5 PM

circuits 30:00 [3]

First Circuits of the year! I soon noticed the bits of me I'd neglected over summer, wasn't too bad though! Quite tired after the longest day ever! On the positive side I can now do press ups - thank you kayaking!!!

Saturday Sep 25, 2010 #

Running 33:00 [1] 2.2 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: Mudclaw 270s

GIAG fell run - slow group - good chat to some freshers, hopefully they enjoyed it and will come back! ITB fine, but not a proper test....

Wednesday Sep 22, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

1st proper nights sleep in 5 nights - makes a lot of difference :-)
I look nackered in a lot of the photos from this weekend!

7 PM

Running 44:00 [2] 5.2 mi (8:28 / mi) +153m 7:45 / mi
ahr:162 max:182

Run with Zanthe through parks - ITB ok for about 35mins then a bit sore. HR was a bit higher than expected. Going to rest for a bit now before Ian Hodgsons in 2 wkends time! Pretty sure Terrex recovery is not complete...

11 AM

MTBO race 1:06:14 [3] 6.9 km (9:36 / km) +375m 7:33 / km
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

World Cup Final - Middle
Rain stopped - sun out! Clay mud much more manageable! Wore tubey grip as decided that would be worth pain of compressing the hole in my knee in order to hold my ITB together! (Sounds like I'm properly falling apart or something....)
Decided before the start to aim for a clean ride and ride as slowly as was comfortable. Wore my old shoes.
Was fine to 4, then ITB was really painful on the road and I thought I might have to stop again. Got a bit better so decided to continue and stayed that way to the end - found riding uphill on slippy mud at the end a bit too painful but was ok...
Never really got into control flow (but not many did, even Michi said she was finding it hard to see the route choices at some points!) and was a bit stop start and rode very steady! Payed off - clean ride (until 11 which I thought was the finish and rode back down a hill...but I'll ignore that!) Lost 1min total (no 11) and finished in 28th position, my highest international placing and 1st world cup points! Pretty similar performance to my WOC middle race, so pretty pleased with it after yesterday! Good end to the weekend!

Mountain Biking 25:00 [2]
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

To quarantine and then to start where I chatted to Per and Linus for a bit. They were even earlier for their start than me!

12 PM

MTBO race 30:00 [4]
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

World Cup final - sprint
Set off well and fast! Dubious route to `1 but wanted to avoid the narrow muddy path in the pouring rain! made it to 3 fine, then at 4 it was chucking it down and the track I wanted was actually a bit of grass so I took one slightly too much to the right...noticed fast and corrected but took the wrong track again! The mud was so churned up it was like clay sticking to the wheels, jamming them making riding impossible (sliding everywhere!) started running, had to stop every 50m to unjam wheels! What a relief to make it onto road! ITB was hurting quite a bit now - shows the difference between wet and dry conditions and training and racing effort!
en route to 5 was very slippy and I ended off pushing - made a hash of 6 as there was mud all over my map board! Helen caught me 15mins here and I knew my ITB was really slowing me down - decided to stop before I damaged it further!
Rode down to the finish where Maria on commentry said 'here is Lucy Harris from GB, She is very muddy - most people are quite muddy today, but I think she is most muddy!' - too true! :-)

Mountain Biking warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

Ride to quarantine and start then up and down the hill a bit

Friday Sep 17, 2010 #

5 PM

MTBO 1:00:01 [2] 11.78 mi (5:06 / mi)
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

Ride from hotel down to Vo - around the sprint model and back.
Started raining as we set off woo! I raced Helen - I went 5,4,3 she went 5,2,3 - I had a big hill she didnt...she won! Some of the paths/tracks are very indistinct in the grape vine rows! Should make some interesting racing! Cutting through vine rows is sometimes much quicker!
ITB fine in carbon shoes - knee ached a bit at top of massive climb out of Vo but nothing major :-)

Thursday Sep 16, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

To Italy! :-) - well to helens house, then Italy tomorrow...

Wednesday Sep 15, 2010 #

Note

Went into A and E as I'm over at NGH anyway to check I'd cleaned it sufficiently. Knees are too important to infect!
Told it would have been a stiches job if I'd been in last night.....oops
Swelling is down quite a bit thanks to ice, hopefully might get to do one race this weekend at least?
7 PM

orienteering 35:22 [1] 3.0 km (11:47 / km)

Limb Valley - plan for this wk was, if nothing else, to have tested ITB on bike and done some nav at the SYO club night - as swelling had gone down a lot I decided to get some nav practice and stick to the plan. Very slow moving however!
Root canal hurt more than knee which made jogging bits possible...(is it bad that this was still faster than my mins per km at the JK this year?)

Tuesday Sep 14, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

This last two weeks I've gone round in circles: accepting I won't be able to ride more than 5mins in Italy and it will be a nice holiday, thinking the sprint is doable but might make the middle too long the next day, finally thinking ITB is fixed so both races are happening yesterday, and now back to probably won't be able to ride. Gah!
10 AM

Mountain Biking (On Road) 23:30 [2] 4.75 mi (12.1 mph) +93m
slept:4.0 shoes: Scott Aspect 45

ITNGH-BRU wore old shoes - ITB felt ok but not 100% uphill - it must be winter, the Scotts out again!
5 PM

Mountain Biking (On Road) 33:54 [2] 5.55 mi (9.8 mph) +226m
shoes: Scott Aspect 45

HFNGH-BRU via Brocco Bank - ITB completely fine!
7 PM

Mountain Biking 33:25 [3] 4.77 mi (8.6 mph)
shoes: Scott Aspect 45

Ride round rivelin with Helen and Ben. Was going well and getting used to the Scott again, until the end of rivelin where I crashed (just after being very proud of my ability to manoeuvre it slowly through small spaces) in a very similar way to israel when had barely any momentum. I just can't control the weight of that bike when its barely moving! Landed with all my and the bikes weight on my right knee which split the skin. I now have a hole and not sure if it needs stiches in order to stop it reopening every time I bend my knee or whether I'm going to bother finding out until I get back from Italy...

12 PM

Running 3:58 [4] 0.6 mi (6:37 / mi) +30m 5:43 / mi

Car Park to catching up with everyone!

Running 56:15 [2] 4.6 mi (12:14 / mi) +417m 9:32 / mi

Run up the beer barrel route backwards to spectate with the girls. Was gentle going out but might have been effort 3 for about a mile on the way back staying ahead of the DPFR team. ITB was pretty happy going up or flat, not so happy on the rougher stuff and very not happy going downhill. Lasted a lot better than last week though! The guys flew down the hill!

Friday Sep 10, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Nackered! and no time to swim

Thursday Sep 9, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Bit tired - worth a bit of a rest! ITB feeling so much better I might just accidentally go running tomorrow if I'm not careful...

Wednesday Sep 8, 2010 #

6 PM

Swimming 16:00 [3] 0.66 km (24:15 / km)

Easier swim - was aiming for 30 lengths - got a bit bored...20 X FC.

Swimming 5:00 [1] 0.2 km (25:15 / km)

After 20 lengths - 2XBS and 4XFC arms only

Tuesday Sep 7, 2010 #

Note
(injured)

Woke up in the night with massive pain in ITB and couldn't move leg! Think I must have been sleeping in a position that stretched it - OW

Note

Got a call from Mark Croasdale to see if I wanted to travel with the England Team to the Home International in Scotland and race for experience - wish it was a weekend later, I'd be there! Going to Italy for MTBO world cup already!
6 PM

Swimming 35:00 [4] 1.32 km (26:31 / km)

Went down to the pool hoping to coincide with Jules, missed her so just swam instead:

2xBS w/u

Pyramid: 2FC 1BS 4FC 1BS 6FC 1BS 8FC 1BS 6FC 1BS 4FC 1BS 2FC

Total = 40 lengths

ITB didn't like BS too much so that was a bit slow but glad I haven't lost too much in terms of FC! Felt good to do a harder training session - its been a while....Its been ages since I've been swimming and felt better than expected! Maybe the kayaking has something to do with it...

Monday Sep 6, 2010 #

6 PM

Running 14:40 [1] 1.45 mi (10:07 / mi) +66m 8:52 / mi

Very slow run around the trunce - ITB completely gave in about 300m from getting back - I can see some swimming happening...

Sunday Sep 5, 2010 #

11 AM

Running 28:30 [2] 3.0 mi (9:30 / mi) +190m 7:56 / mi

Run over a moor with Shelf to compensate for no Shelf Moor. Set off with Shelf and Wil, went through some fields and over a river and up a hill. 15-20mins in ITB became a problem so ran back. Hobble by the end - not a run - how the hell I managed that for 4 days I have no idea, rather painful. Lots of stretching time!

Saturday Sep 4, 2010 #

5 PM

Running 11:22 [2] 1.35 mi (8:25 / mi) +70m 7:15 / mi

Was thinking about Shelf Moor today - so thought I'd be sensible and do a taster run 1st. Home, closed shop, springvale (sounds like a pub crawl), sackville road, school road, home. Legs felt suprisingly good and barely noticed springvale was a hill. ITB much improved but nowhere near good enough to go to Shelf Moor unfortunately...

Note

Saw Kim, it hurt, but now ITB works better :-)
