cycling 1:48:54 [3] 29.6 mi (16.3 mph) +289m
shoes: Specialized Gerolsteiner

Chain gang. Quick ride to Levens as we were running late, then 3 or 4 chain gang runs to Derby arms and back. 'Fast group' set off at rip your legs off pace, but after a mile settled down. Not the most fluid chain I've ridden in but good to get the legs moving :-)

Hour of power with Wil - he didn't fancy the power part so I waited at the top of the hill.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Cracking cough, but weirdly non-productive still. I actually managed the entire day sitting still!

12 PM

Running race 2:16:07 [3] 11.6 mi (11:44 / mi) +1127m 9:01 / mi
(sick)

Yearly first test of how fit I am at anni waltz.

I don't think I'll ever learn. Optimism that I was feeling better got me to the start line. That and the beautiful day making it a shame to miss out.
Missed the start (along with half the field) as there were more runners than normal and it was a very quiet announcement that we were starting. Not much lost (30s once you take into account the overtaking on a track factor?) and not as bad as the winner Heidi Dent who was off down the track warming up!

Ran well to Robinson, arriving at the start of the climb in around the same time as 2014 - or maybe a little quicker after the incentive to get overtaking in the first couple of miles. Didn't climb too badly but not as fast as 2014 and topped out 2-3mins down on my fastest which I will certainly take!

From there on in I didn't have anything to give though and from Hindscarth was not feeling good so became a survival game rather than a race. FIninshed ~30s faster than last year which considering a) not starting on 'go' b) disaster cough and c) the race being slightly longer due to not taking the direct line off catbells, I think indicates I'm fitter than a year ago!? Who knows how far off the miracle that was 2:04 in 2014 I would have been without the cold.

Took me a good 5mins to catch my breath at the end and cough slightly more chesty than before maybe. If I was a sensible athlete, I shouldn't have raced.....but I did and now I'll moan whilst I wait to recover properly!

Note
(sick)

Week of rest with cold receding into a dry cough. Weird cold as had been feeling fine until Wed, then less so for a few days.

10 AM

Running race 2:18:56 [3] 11.5 mi (12:05 / mi) +480m 10:42 / mi
(sick)

Open 5 run.....by this point in the week I had to admit I definitely had a cold....(sore through Wed progressed into blocked sinuses and then general cold). Was surprised to feel ok once we set off and was stronger than Rosemary in general on the run! Lovely day for a run out to Stoodley Pike, even if this proved to be a bit too far for the 2 hrs...
12 PM

Mountain Biking race 3:00:59 [3] 22.0 mi (7.3 mph) +714m
(sick)

Open 5 bike. Steep climb to start, but once on top was nice to fly along on the road. Foiled by 1.5km of permissive bridalway/bogfest which put us well over time on our return. Felt ok to 4hrs but could have done with stopping then. Record late back, 19minutes! and 70 points lost! Needless to say we didn't win (2nd) but this one was a bit of a jolly as we'd already won the series. Both of us agreed stoodley pike would not have happened if the race had been on!

Running 1:03:08 [2] 6.5 mi (9:43 / mi) +223m 8:47 / mi

Gentle run on the scar with Helen and Paul. Cold materialising.

Wednesday Apr 6, 2016 #

7 PM

Running 39:23 [3] 4.08 mi (9:39 / mi) +285m 7:56 / mi

Loughrigg fell race on tired legs. Very wet underfoot, less than 3mins slower than PB, which was set on a bone dry evening in 2014.

Not too bad considering it felt a very comfortable pace and I was rubbish downhill in the wet.

Running 2:06:04 [2] 10.5 mi (12:00 / mi) +887m 9:31 / mi

3 passes with Wil. Hit the climbs fairly hard to try and get my legs working better on them, seemed to be working. Felt like legs moving a lot better and fairly strong on the climbs. Still slower on each than when I ran this with Sal in 2014, a week after doing the mourne mountain marathon and prior to a ride to grange which is a bit disappointing. Hopefully moving in the right direction and 5mins quicker overall despite some pretty wet saturated ground!

Note

27/3-1/4 skiing in Les Menuires and the 3 Vallees. 2.5-3.5hrs of actual going downhill each day, obviously fast skiing as on holiday with Wil. Caught up with Shelf and Lorna on their ski season :-)

Skiing 3:00:00 [3]

Definitiely a quad work out, snow now disappearing fast! High up still good though.
