Running race 1:59:53 [3] 9.33 mi (12:51 / mi) +400m 11:20 / mi

Peak 'O' Trial - from glossop - herod farm - hill above that - all the way along that hill, down the valley and across to Harry Hut - Mill Hill, williams clough - Mill Hill - Black moor and back to glossop. bit of trail running but a lot of terrain running!
Lots of slushiness and snow around - didn't really feel like I was pushing hard like a race with the staggered start times
Ran into a bit of trouble after williams clough when everything below my shins was completely numb and my hands were equally as numb - then they started warming up after black moor - never run through that amount of pain before! Don't ever want that to happen again - it hurt enough to make me feel sick! (worse than when we were in Gothenburg in 1st yr!). think the last couple of miles were horrendously slow...
Apparently ran ok though and came 2nd :-)

Pennine christmas run - from the royal along SVT up morlands road, over to peep o day - then to south head and back via mt famine and the dragons back - down elle bank back to hayfield
Put in some good effort up morlands road and south head (where the snow was deep making a tough hill effort!)
rest of the run was either deep snow or icey! good fun :-)

Skiing 5:00:00 [3] 10.0 mi (30:00 / mi) +444m 26:22 / mi

Good bit of skiing from the well known resort of Edale :-) Did a couple of runs of gridslow in thigh burning snow then headed across to see what we could find near mam tor - not much found but over near brown knoll looked excellent so we made the trek over there! Not disappointed - some compact snow in the shade meant awesome conditions - would have liked to spend more of the day there but tried to make it back in time for a train - missed it and ended up in the nags head for soup! fun times! not too bad a pace considering the knee deep snow, ski boots and carrying more than a quarter of my own body weight! (faster than we moved on our D of E anyway :-o) legs will feel this tomorrow no doubt!

Tuesday Dec 22, 2009 #

Note

Well - the long run I had planned today didn't happen due to the HUGE amount of snow that hit new mills 9:30am - 15:30 with barely a pause in the snowing and now its snowing again! so it was the first time ever I could ski down our drive! and in high lea park - nothing compared to the peaks skiing plan of tomorrow! :-)

Note

Had planned to go for a run, but when I got my shoes out of the car they were frozen! So now awaiting their defrosting....

Running 44:49 [4] 5.0 mi (8:58 / mi) +202m 7:58 / mi

Shoes defrosted I headed out for a pacey run - out along the sett valley trail to birch vale then up lantern pike and back over sitch lane - felt like I was going quite hard for most of it - played race the watch to the top of lantern pike (aiming for 25mins) - it won by 50 seconds :-(
snow is pretty! (not that I could see much from the blizzard on top...)

Note

Interesting - when I ran up lantern pike from the sycamore not in the snow last year (3.1miles) it took me 31:36 mins for the same effort! thats a whole 74secs a mile quicker this year for an extra 2 miles! :-)

orienteering race 1:32:20 [3] *** 8.8 km (10:30 / km) +325m 8:51 / km
spiked:15/21c

W21E at cannock- Legs felt dead - think I ran harder than I thought yesterday and missing out lunch probably didn't help
Sadly the slow running didn't help the nav and I was a bit scrappy - think I switched off at about 60mins of running then glanced at my watch and suddenly had been going 80! not sure what happened in between 60 and 80 mins.
Leaving any hard training til after christmas when I will reconnect my brain and start oing better again!
Plus point of the day, I wasn't last!!! or 2nd to last!! (and there were only 8 in the field)

Saturday Dec 12, 2009 #

wimped out of going up to 4 on the pyramid as wasn't feeling it, but was glad I went by the end!

orienteering 20:17 [3] 2.5 km (8:07 / km)

Weston Park night orienteering. Legs suffering today but had to get round as fast as poss to get to cycling club xmas meal. Apart from thinking I wanted to go 8-10 instead of 9 was pretty smooth

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

to/from the park

Tuesday Dec 8, 2009 #

Running 43:18 [2] 5.3 mi (8:10 / mi) +150m 7:31 / mi

Recovery run with Zanthe - Up crookesmoor road - roslin road - crookes - down to Hillsborough - Infirmary Road - Fat Cat - Tesco - Home

Monday Dec 7, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Hahaha the maps are up - looks like I did a figure of 8....not too suprisingly nobody else did that!
My run was very good though - the only other female to do the same route won overall and took 12minutes longer on the run than me - time for me to engage brain!

Thought about going to circuits but figured a proper rest day was probably better...

Running race 2:07:00 [4] 11.5 mi (11:03 / mi) +272m 10:17 / mi

Open 5 - Run - Cocked up the first control as my pen that marked which controls werent there rubbed off 22 when I put the map in the bag - ran an excess 1km doh! From there on it seemed I'd chosen a good route and felt really strong running :-)
Went for a swim heading past the quarry where the path was flooded - thought it wouldn't be too deep but then I found myself up to my waist in it - chilly!
Was aiming to run for 2hrs and the extra bit can be accounted for by the mistake at the start. - collected 210 points which set me up well for the ride

Mountain Biking race 2:25:00 [4] 16.1 mi (6.7 mph) +277m
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

Now I feel I should explain myself before anyone sees my route choice on open5 website....
My original plan involved going to get 18 then 17 then 13 however on closer inspection I didn't think I could get from 18-17 on a bridleway without going a long way round and regaining height and I also discovered going to 17 alone wasn't really worth the 15 points for climbing up to hollins cross....
So I decided I would get 13 first...and I was so intent on going to 13 I didn't notice I rode straight past 15 on my way there (the highest point value MTB control.) after 13 I went to 9 - then noticed I wanted to go to 15 so instead of taking a normal route I went to 15 - missed it because I thought I was on the wrong bridleway and climbed back up to it anyway.. - extra 1.5km...
After this I looked at the map and thought how can I rescue this...the answer was I couldn't so I got what I could - 19, 16 and 11
Taking me to a pitiful score of 155 for my 2hrs42 of effort.... I am actually stupid! should have replanned my entire route instead of going 13,9,15,19,16,11.....you will see how stupid when the results go up here : http://www.openadventure.com/results.php (under race analysis MTB).

Mountain Biking 16:30 [5] 3.7 mi (13.5 mph) +55m
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

At number 16 on my way back from 11 I noticed I was a bit tight for time - so it seemed I pretended I was on a road bike and killed myself back to the finish - probably the best bit of riding I did today!
It hurt....and I still lost 4 points for my efforts (ah well meant it made it worth going to 11 instead of 12 by 1 point :-)

Note

So, I had a look at the map when I got back and decided what I would have done if I'd paused and taken a minute to look at other options, heres a comparison:
What I did: 19.8miles - 332m climb

If I'd actually looked I would have gone 15,13,9,4,8,2,5,12,16,19
This route takes up 19.82miles with 382m climb....so thats 0.2 miles further with an extra 50m climb

total = 230 points - grand total 440

I can pretty much assume that I wouldn't have been more than 10minutes late due to those extra bits so - assuming the maximum lateness that would have left me with a total of 210 for the bike as well...grand total = 420

Hmmm I feel there has been some lessons learnt today to carry forward to the next one:

1) eat a little bit more (was lacking energy for my sprint back)
2)At least look at the MTB map before going running (i.e. with an untired head on)
3)Don't plan routes on the go!!!

Note
(rest day)

Pre Open 5 Rest day - stomach is happy, bike has a chain that ISN'T so rusted it won't bend and has tied itself in knots (silly damp room - no better than leaving a bike in the opal2 bike storage)- I'm excited!!!

Mountain Biking 10:00 [2] 2.1 mi (12.6 mph)
shoes: Massi Carbon Pro

Rode out along the sett valley trail to check my tampering with the bike had made it work and my chain wasnt going to snap!
Can really feel the benefit of riding my Scott and doing spinning! It felt really light and fun!

Running warm up/down 10:01 [2] 1.35 mi (7:25 / mi)

Running 23:54 [4] 2.88 mi (8:18 / mi) +225m 6:41 / mi

Hill sprints: 6x(30s,60s) with jog back down recovery - was going well, about 5-10s behind nic and person i didnt recognise on the 60s ones.
In the 3rd rep my stomach started hurting and by the end it was difficult to run back down (chose to ignore it on the up...)

Running warm up/down 12:00 [1] 0.96 mi (12:30 / mi)

Shuffle home - could only manage about 10 steps jogging, 10 steps walking
