Lovely run with Lotte from Stanage Pole along to high neb, down to the road and back via the plantation. We then played baby relays and Wil and Spence ran down to the sportsman while me and Lotte walked back to the car and met them there! Wil become a more regular relay trainnig session hopefully :-)

ahr:167 max:185

DPFR run - was going to go steadily but as the next few months are going to be full of rubbish training (start eating gluten again tomorrow) I made the most of feeling good! Over to Ringinglow the way I'd go on a bike, then down long line and Eccy Road, back over to hangingwater and then up Tom Lane and back to the sportsman! Feeling good atm! The hill climb on Sunday is going to hurt though...

Note

Bit of a sore throat going on, but not much else :-) Maybe when I don't head for Scotland at the weekend my body will finally believe I'm not doing the OMM and I can relax, avoiding the October freshers lurgy!
Going to do a bit of swimming and a practice at the BUCS hill climb before Sunday when it's time to race a road bike! :-)

Spinning 1:00:00 [3]

Went to spinning with Lottie while Spence looked after Bif. Good to do some exercise!
Almost certainly getting a cold or something though, felt like somebody was sat on my chest and got light headed if I got my HR up. As I hadn't brought an inhaler I took the option of not falling off the bike and went steadyish. This normally only happens A) if I have just returned from a country with nicer air that my lungs like or B) when I am about to get a cold/chest infection. Haven't been to anywhere foreign lately....

Note

Time for a rest. Already got sport envy today and its less than 24hrs....oh dear...

On the check list of things to fix is:
Dislocated finger, tendonitis in wrist and weak ankles! Then I will be able to run fast downhill again, keeping my balance by flailing my arms and without getting achey ankles that feel like they might stop functioning at any moment!

Running race 1:27:43 [3] 7.42 mi (11:49 / mi) +580m 9:31 / mi

FRA relays - Nav leg with Helen. Set off just behind Kendal (Natalie White and partner) - gained on them all the way up the valley to the map collection which I was starting to worry they had forgotten about!!

Really tempted to run past them but knew I'd make too much of a gap back to Helen. Overall I think Totley ladies caught and passed us (after a really obvious moment of following :-) which made me giggle) just as we passed another womens team - then Edinburgh Ladies came past (boo - I really wanted to put the hammer down then!) but we caught Horwich and Holmfirth with a dramatic sprint finish battle for the si box :-) Felt really good and had good leg turnover today - now time for a bit of a rest before lots more training to make me faster!

Running 50:00 [2] 4.53 mi (11:02 / mi) +293m 9:11 / mi

Run from Lakeside with Rhesus, Wil and T'Edwards. Legs feeling amazingly fine. Only niggle being the scar tissue I removed from my L knee after brushing it on a rock somewhere around Crinkle Crags. Went through the woods opposite Wils house, to Finsthwaite and up to High Dam, Lap of the dam and back.

Running race 3:00:26 [4] 12.42 mi (14:32 / mi) +1382m 10:48 / mi

Langdale Horseshoe Fell Race. After last year where I gave up running ('forever') at the end of Langdale (a little too much racing in too short a time) I decided that my target should be to go sub 3hrs. Last year I finished in 3:04:11 in glorious dry conditions....

This year was not glorious dry conditions! I took the first climb steady to start, knowing what is to come. Having picked a really bad position in the start line up I still overtook all the way up! At the top there was a lady 50m ahead, I kept drawing her in to 20m, then she'd get away again, why couldn't I just catch her! It wasn't until Black Crags where she took off her black long sleeved top to reveal a DPFR vest that I realised it was Nicky Spinks, and I was probably racing alright...
At Esk Hause we were informed we were 3rd and 4th women. Time for a bit of racing. I caught a bit of ground going across to Bowfell, however by the top was still about 30m behind! This didn't really change until Crinkle Crags where I took a couple of different lines and suddenly we were together! It felt like we overran the top and doubled back to find the marshals, arriving together. As there had been mutterings of 'I hope you know the way' among the group on the way up Crinkle Crags I got my map out! When I lined it up it told me I wanted to go 180 degrees in the opposite direction to the one I thought I'd be taking! A group of 4 with Nicky in had already headed off, in another direction, and I had to double and tripple check I hadn't forgotten how to read a map! Eventually I realised I was next to the bad step having missed the way to the bad step so skirting round it. I was a bit overly cautious going to Pike o Blisco as I had put the map away again and really didn't want to get on the wrong path. Then another lady came whizzing past! My descending skill is pretty shocking at the moment as I'm too preoccupied with not falling over and damaging the parts of me held together with tape...

Once I recognised where we were I got my act together and caught back up to the woman going up Pike O Blisco. I also had put Nicky 30m in front of me again - clearly I should have thrown caution to the wind on top of Crinkle Crags and played the following game...The 3 of us were now in the race for 3rd. The Woman with black and white striped vest had the upper hand on the descent and got 3rd and Nicky maintained that taunting 50m gap she had had from the top of the first climb. I finished 5th, but felt so much better at the end than last year! No giving up running this time, just need to get faster! Hazel Robinson won in 2hrs36!!

I finished in 3hrs and 26seconds after hooning it down the road to try and break 3hrs....ah well, not the day for records and to get a PB by 4mins was alright :-)

Note

I could have been running, but instead I am still at the NGH waiting for a platform to arrive....everybody think positive thoughts...I don't want it to be the last delivery of the day at 7pm! Still need to pack for Langdale!....

Stilettoed! Good bruise to the foot. Why did I ever stop wearing trainers to Roar...

Also, looking forward to this.....

It will be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain and extensive hill fog. Gale or severe gale force southwesterly winds. Freezing level above all summits.'

Note

Last week the 5pm bus was too full to get home on a thursday, this week I decided to get the 4:30pm so i would fit on it......that was full too!! So another stroll across home from the Northern General. This time it pissed it down! Definitely a 'bathed poodle' look going on by the time I made it home!

Running race 46:08 [4] 4.01 mi (11:30 / mi) +436m 8:36 / mi

IHR Pennine Mixed Team Leg 1 - set off conservitively. The climb was pretty steady as was trying to get that fine balance between being demoralising and beeing too close to Edie. Legs feeling strong which made me very excited for Langdale! Think we pulled it off well up there, in with all the womens teams and other mixed except Bingley. Took Dave's lines and were moving ok across the top. Caught DPFR on the descent and finished not too far behind. That last bit of track, Edie showed me what she had in reserve for track and road...that hurt me and stomach in a state by the end, purely due to the last 3/4 of a mile down the track!

Tight race overall, Muir and Paul put us in the lead heading into leg 3, Steph and Claire kept in 1st and Adam and Daz set off onto the final leg 30s up on Bingley....Ian Holmes on their last leg! When they entered the finishing field it was sprint finish time with Bingley pipping us by 7s over the 4.5hrs of running! 2nd Place

Running 1:02:21 [2] 4.48 mi (13:55 / mi) +432m 10:43 / mi

After a mamoth journey up to the lakes me and Edie recceid IHR leg 1 as wasn't confirdent of Dave's secret routes in this direction. Did a bit of unplanned tussock running and had to hunt for a lost hair clip. Stomach grumbled a bit which worried me a bit as we really did take it easy!
