cycling 42:00 [2] 7.96 mi (11.4 mph) +276m

Quick leg spin up to the sportsman via ringinglow, would have had another day off but my brain needed it and I was still working when Wil left for DPFR. Legs felt ok, just generally tired which isn't a surprise. Especially given my week is pretty full on Mon, Tues, Wed with demonstrating and fitting in thesis writing. I discovered this is a slow route given you don't get any of the reward (ie downhill) for having climbed out of Sheffield....then again, you get the reward of the pub :-)

Note

Legs feeling pretty fine which is unusual - appear to have avoided any major DOMS.
Lungs going through what is becoming the normal routine, cough cough cough. On the plus side this meant I had enhanced capabilities to demonstrate spirometry to undergraduates, showing them what asthmatic looks like and what salbutamol does....

Running race 3:30:00 [3] 18.0 km (11:40 / km) +900m 9:20 / km

Day 2 OMM B class. Shortened courses due to the weather and river levels. Probably just what we needed as although my ankle could hack it, it had taken a bit of a beating....
Chest was tight from the off, but the rest of me felt great so pushed on up the hills and over the rough ground which Zoe's legs didn't thank me for. She got her revenge on the track through the forest to the finish.

Ankle did admirably, only failing to work properly on the last descent after we smashed it down the previous one.
Rectified yesterdays errors by finishing fastest ladies on todays course. 3rd overall.
Plus I finally made it to the end of an OMM course :-)

Running race 6:45:00 [3] 31.0 km (13:04 / km) +1850m 10:04 / km

Day 1 of the OMM B Class. Going well to 3 even given a 5minute mistake on 2, leading up to here by 6mins- cock up on the long leg to 4 (~20km?) lost us waaaay too much time! Finished 4th, 5mins down on Anwen and Laura, 10 on Alice and Alex and 20 on the leaders. Overnight was wet and wild with the odd bit of thunder.

My ankle was not that happy with the left contour most of the way from the start to 3 but got over that. Had a bad patch after 2.5 hours but was fine after 3/3.5 just as Zoe hit a bad spot. Finished feeling ridiculously sprightly!

Note

Things seem to have settled down just in time for me to irritate them again. At least we'll start with a full compliment of working airways!

Note

Chest still a bit tight but miles better on the cough front today. Maybe running through it is the way forward...

Running 37:13 [2] 4.31 mi (8:38 / mi) +86m 8:08 / mi

Run from the sportsman with Wil around redmires. Chest fine at easy speed but still not good on undulations or when I tried to run faster. Good job we don't need to run fast at the OMM. Shame about the (rather large) undulations. I'm sure it'll hack it....

Running 1:15:00 [2] 5.73 mi (13:05 / mi) +431m 10:37 / mi

Pennine Tues Run - Lose Hill, down Back Tor, Hollins Cross and back. Taking the running on regardless approach. Doesn't work very well uphill but cruising the flat/down is ok. Legs feeling a bit too fine after Sunday...

Monday Oct 21, 2013 #

Note

Persistent cough still there, just seems to make running tougher and then appears for the next couple of days after I've run, so almost certainly asthmatic. If it's still there when my inhaler runs out it might be time for a trip to a specialist (as my doctor had run out of ideas when she first gave me these meds). Would quite like to get some decent training in soon....

Running race 2:00:45 [3] 8.1 mi (14:54 / mi) +911m 11:03 / mi

FRA relays, nav leg with Holly.

Wendy had a good run on leg 1 handing over in 5th, then steph and zoe moved up to 4th, overtaking 2 teams but having HBT soar past them on a storming run.

We set off a good 5+mins down of DPFR and a minute or 2 ahead of calder valley.

Heading out from the 2nd control I noticed we'd gained significantly on DPFR so we had a target and it was a podium position. We got closer across the scree but after the climb to 4 didn't see them again. I think a large part of that had to do with the descent to 3 followed by the descent to 4 causing my ankle to get a bit too tired to function properly. We weren't slow but I went from leading the way to hanging onto Holly and it wasn't a food issue. Probably a combination of 1.5hrs of running in terrain (first time since June) and pushing into the headwind. The contour to 6 pushed it a bit far as it was the opposite and worse way to contour for the ankle but pretty pleased with the final descent, heart in mouth as I took it on almost as fast as normal...no disaster!

Anyway, we took time out of Calder Valley but didn't get Claire close enough to DPFR to take it on, so 4th overall, one place better than last year and a move in the right direction :-)

Mountain Biking 2:00:00 [2] 14.0 mi (7.0 mph)

Marin trail with Wil and Zoe en route to Llanberis. Had to miss a small section as there was a car rally on and the route was closed. Not a particularly safe rally as it turned out as, although the roads were closed either end, the section of marin trail ending on the road the rally used had no sign the rally was happening..... got lucky nothing was coming when we ended up there....

Running 45:55 [2] 5.4 mi (8:30 / mi) +172m 7:44 / mi

Shaking the cobwebs off before Sunday - I really need to get back into running more than once a week.....
Feeling good though, purposefully cruisey speed with a slightly upped tempo while I chatted to Pete along from Ranmoor. Looking forward to a full strength pennine showing this weekend :-)

Running race 21:56 [3] 5.0 km (4:23 / km)

Newbury park run with Em. Lungs still not working right, felt like they were still clogged with something, this is getting annoying now. Felt weak and cruised around but in true parkrun style, was first woman across the line. I need to do a 5k on form one day...

Pennine Tues run up and around Win Hill. Really struggling, chest still suffering, time off to let it fully clear I think.

Running race 1:35:30 [4] 7.0 mi (13:39 / mi) +875m 9:50 / mi

Leg 2 of IHMR with Rach Chatwin. Thought my chest was clear but was certainly still lacking something today. Ploughed my way up the hill following rachels heels on anything track like/runnable. Every bit of rougher stuff was a relief! Windy on the top made going fairly hard work.
Our descending speed was awful, team crocked ankles, but still managed to hold off all but DPFR women to hand over in 5th, within seconds of 4th. Amazingly within 30s of last years time and the conditions this year were much worse and completely opposite to last year...

Running 2:00:00 [2] 7.41 mi (16:12 / mi) +720m 12:26 / mi

Run from Hartsop with Claire, Holly and Zoe. Split at the FB crossing leg 3/4 change over and Claire and Holly went to look at leg 3 descent while me and Zoe took the direct line up to the ridge then along to Hart Crag. Ankle much better on the rough stuff, still got to be careful and concentrate but can at least run over it now!

If I'd known exactly where to look I'd have payed Daz's cairn a visit, but as it was just spared a few thoughts at the top. Great evening for it although the view at the top could have been better...
