Note
(rest day)

Needed. Think something around my ribs is still a bit inflamed and 4 days on the trot is the limit!

11 AM

Mountain Biking 1:43:05 [2] 7.0 mi (4.1 mph) +430m

Grisdale with Sarah, Vicky, Mitch and Rosie, guided by Rosie from Blind Lane carpark. Seem to have lost my full suss ability to let it go but was getting there towards the end. Chest sore after an hour and a bit so missed the last extra descent and went straight for the pub!

Skiing 1:59:20 [2] 2.6 mi (45:54 / mi) +414m 30:42 / mi

Messing around from Dunmail, walked then skinned up followed by a little ski down. Not the most amazing snow but the skis are christened and it has only taken a year of owning them!

Running 1:04:49 [2] 2.3 mi (28:11 / mi) +398m 18:20 / mi

Off piste around red screes, started downhill then a direct line to middle dodd which involved some snow covered grass scrambling. Up red screes, then down the direct route which was very icey! Glad we had microspikes. Met a father and daughter team en route down in adidas trail and football shoes respectively....they weren't as grippy on ice....

Running warm up/down 10:09 [2] 1.1 mi (9:14 / mi) +25m 8:37 / mi

Summer traffic has extended to winter, arrived just in time to run to registration and enter before the cut off of 11:40! Then ran up to the start.
12 PM

Running race 32:18 [3] 2.1 mi (15:23 / mi) +380m 9:51 / mi

Wansfell Fell Race. There was no pushing it today, lungs do not like hills yet so I think I was 5mins slower to the top than my best....didn't quite achieve my PB of 28:02, but it was lovely and sunny and good to be running on the fells!

Running 16:27 [1] 1.5 mi (10:58 / mi) +20m 10:32 / mi

From Em's to Parkrun
9 AM

Running 23:22 [4] 3.1 mi (7:32 / mi) +16m 7:25 / mi

Newbury Parkrun around Greenham Common. Emmy is training for the london marathon (her first and a step up from half marathon!) so an easy way to do some miles on Xmas day. Lungs not ready for running fast, so steadied off after half a mile or so. Potentially my slowest ever 5km, but earnt some xmas dinner :-).

Running 15:06 [1] 1.5 mi (10:04 / mi) +10m 9:52 / mi

Home for breakfast.

Swimming 7:25 [1] 0.15 mi (49:32 / mi)

Chilli dip (with a wetsuit unlike most) from miller ground to Buoy 13. Will take some aclimatising to do more regularly and maybe some gloves/socks.

Running 39:17 [3] 4.7 mi (8:21 / mi) +50m 8:05 / mi

Fail of a run 1) because you really can't get over the sneaky bridge near morrisons anymore and 2) I missed lakes cycles leaving for xmas by 10mins....oh well!

Out to the bridge and back on the slippy trails.

cycling (Mapdec Turbo) 49:07 [4] 12.9 mi (15.8 mph)
ahr:172 max:165

Away over the weekend weddinging and xmas number 1. Best way to earn your food and drink in restrospect? Go to the mystery christmas killer session at Mapdec, push your HR higher than its been in months and see what happens.....

Simulated lap of coniston TT route. I had about 2-3miles left to go by the time the first guy finished and we ended the session.
7 PM

cycling 20:00 [4] 4.3 mi (12.9 mph)
ahr:180 max:168

Session 2 - How far can you ride uphill in 20mins. Turns out to be about 1-2km less than the blokes. Interestingly everyone's average Watts over the 20mins seemed to be about 20W below their FTP. Which would give me an FTP of about 190W - not as far as it could be from my all time best of 212W....

cycling 33:46 [3] 5.8 mi (10.3 mph)
ahr:181 max:159

And just to finish off - sufferfest sprints session.....

I was glad my FTP was still down at 155W at this point, much more pleasant/ doable than it would have otherwise been!

Running 28:19 [2] 3.3 mi (8:35 / mi) +20m 8:25 / mi

Run round Ulverston with Lizzie, Rob and Wil. Legs fine after yesterday, just overall a bit tired.

Mountain Biking race 3:14:28 [2] 20.2 mi (6.2 mph) +828m
shoes: Chiru Pulse 29er

Didn't decide until we arrived at the O5, but decided to go solo so I could just go at my own pace and stop whenever I fancied. Set off and found biking better for my chest than running. Took the hills slow and made the most of my skills at riding downhill over frozen ground to make up for it. First 2hrs good then felt like I ground to a halt. So didn't sweat it and just kept plodding (quite literally walked up Hawkeshead hill).

Just a lovely day to be out. Even nicer to have lent my watch to Tom so I had no idea how long I was out and just rode where I wanted to. Turns out was about the right amount of time.
12 PM

Running race 1:27:27 [1] 5.8 mi (15:05 / mi) +522m 11:47 / mi

More of a walk than a run. Set off intending on getting at least 1 control and see how I felt from there. Walking proved not to be a problem so walked most of the way up to Walna Scar and along and up to the mines. Maybe got optimistic with the control on the mines as struggled to get up there, but all downhill jogging back from there and had plenty of time so used it.

One of the most pleasant open 5s ever, stunning day and going steady meant I didn't even get DOMS!

Somehow my route choice and lack of caring how many bike:run controls I got resulted in me winning the female solo with a score that would have won the pairs. As I pointed out to Rosemary, this didn't show what would have happened if we'd raced together, I would have had to push harder uphill and she would not have enjoyed my descending....and there is no way either of us would have agreed to such a short run if we'd done it first. Hopefully back to being a pair by Feb!

Running 1:34:49 [1] 6.4 mi (14:49 / mi) +250m 13:13 / mi

Helm Fancy Dress Run - Scar dressed as an elf because I think my santa dress bit the dust on an MTB ride last year.

Bit of a test out for tomorrow, I don't think I'll be going much faster and I'm not sure it'll be fast enough to be a pair.

Running 1:01:17 [2] 5.8 mi (10:34 / mi) +267m 9:15 / mi

Upping the ante, an actual run with a runner (and a good one at that)! Steady away out over hutton roof with Sabs. Half an hour in I think I was done, but made it back! Not too much of a coughing mess afterwards :-)
