Mountain Biking race 4:28:56 [3] 37.13 mi (8.3 mph) +1200m

Open 5 Bike - Low Wray.

Rosemary was a bit injured so planned to bike first and do a 3:30/1:30 split of bike:run.
Rosemary may have got a bit carried away with 3hrs 30 plan, however should have been back in 4hrs, if her shoe hadn't fallen appart requiring a quick fix with zip ties and if I hadn't got a puncture which wouldn't seal and then my valve wouldn't come out in order to get a tube in. About 25mins wasted on that lot.....

Still, good fun riding around grizedale and for the first time ever I gave Rosemary a run for her money on the bike (until we'd been riding for 4hrs and I'd run out of food half an hour before and we still had half an hour to go....then I had a few issues).

Running race 35:11 [3] 4.02 mi (8:45 / mi) +72m 8:17 / mi

Open 5 run - convoluted mess of a route to get 3 controls in the little time we had. Got the tow out in the last couple of km to make the last control worth while.

Would have been a different story even if we'd had an hour to run as could have made it a loop and got a couple more, but never mind. 4th overall, not a surprise to be off the podium but it didn't half get a good 'ooooooo' from the crowd at prizegiving :-P

Running 38:37 [4] 2.7 mi (14:18 / mi) +160m 12:05 / mi

Helm Castle Reps with Billy. 10 x short steep climbs with fast approach of ~100-200m. Aim was to run all the way.

~250m with 15m ascent.

Managed first 5 running all the way (10:15mile to 12:14/mile on the fifth), had bad breathing moment on the fifth one and took the rest at a slower pace (11:57-12:30/mile) walking the top of the steep bit the moment I felt my chest tightening and turning round before the top when the others decending reached me.

Spinning 1:00:00 [3]

Run down to the leisure centre and back then spinning class. Not that impressed, not once did I feel like I was going to fall off my bike or that my legs might fall off.

Mainly due to the class jumping around from short climbs to occassional sprints....I think the key in sheffield was a 10minute block of sprints or 10min+ climb increasing in steepness intensity.

Ah well, worth a go and worked as a work destresser.

Running 1:06:38 [4] 7.36 mi (9:03 / mi) +10m 9:01 / mi

Helm Speed Session (on grass playing fields). Didn't get lunch until 4pm, or home until 6pm (session starts 6:15, 15mins run from our house) so dash out the door then arrived with food heavy in stomach. Managed the whole session though, 16 reps
180m to 830m in length, most about 500m in length. Tough session, not feeling fast not too surprisingly given the perfect prep.
Mainly hitting 6:30/mile, ranging from 6:04 to a one off 7:13/mile.
