Running (Easy distance) 26:22 [3] 2.87 mi (9:11 / mi)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Los Gatos Creek Trail. With Ricky and Phillip. We all want to run easily, and it indeed felt easy. Ricky thought it was too fast, so we slowed a bit. They went on when I turned around by the group picnic area by Vasona. When I hit the 3.5 mi marker, picked up the pace for a final half mile, still running fairly easily, so happy it was 8:05 pace. Quite clear that I could run a mile in under 7:30, and maybe even under 7:00.

Tried out the new trail shoes, thinking I may wear them for the WMOC Qualifier, especially if the ground is wet (as the forecast suggests it will be). A bit risky wearing something I've never raced in, but the shoes felt quite good.

Start as usual at the beginning of the boardwalk behind California Cafe.

Running warm up/down 12:21 [2] 1.0 mi (12:21 / mi)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Continuation of the run: eased off (as planned) for the next half mile (5:40), then recovery jog for the final half mile (6:41). Left hip and glut started aching.

Note: the last few days, both gluts have been really sore - could hardly sit on them at some points.

Note
(rest day)

Ha! More like a NON-rest day, running all over creation doing errands to get ready for trip. Slept even worse last night, maybe 3 hours at first, maybe an hour towards morning.

Stretching 1:30:00 [1]

Weekly accumulation of morning stretching. Had some shorter sessions the last few days.

Strength exercises 40:00 [4]

Full sets of hip, core and theraband. No weights.

Haven't been sleeping well; starting to wear out from the stress of getting ready for the trip.

Running 28:42 [3] 2.85 mi (10:04 / mi)
shoes: Kayano XVIII

Front of house: 611, 546, 545, 535, 525. Hot: 80 degrees. Wrapped hamstring, but still felt a little twinge on first lap. So, decided to do 5 laps instead of 7 and to keep the pace moderate. Didn't feel that good, but certainly could have done two more laps at just over 5 mins each.

Exactly a year ago (just prior to WMOC 2011), did the same run (in the same weather!) in 29:38.

Running warm up/down 7:15 [2] 0.5 mi (14:30 / mi)
shoes: Kayano XVIII

Warm up: .15 mi, 2:15
Cool down: .35 mi, 5:00

Walking 36:00 [2] 1.8 mi (20:00 / mi)

Casual walk on Skyline to Four Winds and back with Louise and Jeff. Coming up the last hill by Frosty's, feel a twinge (again) in my left hamstring. Not a good time for body parts to be wearing out!

Walking 34:00 [2] 1.8 mi (18:53 / mi)
shoes: Kayano XVIII

Louise wanted to jog a little, so since it was such a lovely day, I agreed to go along. We headed N on Skyline, but within half a mile both realized that we were too sore from the weekend's activities to jog. So, we walked the rest of the way.

My left hamstring "grabbed" a few times when I tried to jog. Definitely don't want that!!

Strength exercises 1:00:00 [4]

Full sets of all the exercises.

Orienteering 1:18:32 [4] *** 3.5 mi (22:26 / mi) +225m 18:42 / mi
spiked:8/10c shoes: Integrators Orange

J.Grant North - HOT; annoying tall grass - Training course made from 2008 A-meet Long controls, put together by Dan Greene: 3.8km/210m, though I cut from 7 to 10, so my course was 3.0/175. Did reasonably well to near #4, but realized I had gone past #4; rather than going back, tried to go to #5 from there, but went too far down big spur, wound up much too low, finally relocated and had a long, hot climb back to #6, after which I pretty much had had it. Did run to #7, but after that walked the rest of the way (and even that was a struggle). Don't know how useful this was in terms of preparation for WMOC, but it was the best available option.

Dan, Tapio, Francois and Marie-Josee were also out there. Later in the day in Los Gatos it was 98 degrees, after having been 105 yesterday.

Running warm up/down 9:00 [2] 0.9 km (10:00 / km) +85m 6:48 / km
shoes: Integrators Orange

Warm p: mostly jog up big hill.
