Wilder Ranch. My first ever Trail Cross. Did the 10K, though it was at least 11K, even with several short cuts - and more climb than the meet notes might have led one to believe. More navigation required than I expected; people in front of me made several errors, which allowed me to maintain contact (and be in the lead quite a bit) through #10, but by then (one hour) my legs had had it, and did the rest with no one else around. Certainly a good workout.
6th of 13 overall (though also ran with several people running the 10 Mile), 2nd in M40+, which got me a nice chocolate bar as a prize :-)
Trail Cross, btw, is a new format that BAOC is trying in order to attract trail runners to orienteering. It's sort of a long Yellow with a mass start. Only 2 of the 13 controls were easily visible from the trail, and there were a half-dozen short-cutting opportunities. The grass was very wet and there was heavy mist, so got pretty wet, including shoes and socks, which fairly soon made my big toe quite sore, leading me to stay on the trail to #12 when cutting through the meadow would have been several minutes shorter.
