Running (Easy distance plus) 46:00 [3] 4.82 mi (9:33 / mi)
shoes: Kayano 16 White

Los Gatos Creek Trail. Sunny and warm (run in shorts). Liane back after many months. Louise sets a slow pace. We get overtaken by a San Jose Fit group, and run with them for a while, which increases the pace a bit. I'm feeling pretty good and wish I could go faster. Along side Vasona Lake, a bit after the 4.0 post, Norma (who started late) meets us and turns around to run with us. Since Louise now has a partner, I pick up the pace and have a very strong last two miles, best I've felt in a while.

Got really warm while we were out there; takes me a very long time afterwards to stop sweating.

Stretching 2:00:00 [1]

The usual weekly accumulation of morning stretching.

Did 86 pushups this morning, second best ever. (Did 100 once when I was 17.)

7 AM

Walking 12:00 [2] 0.7 mi (17:08 / mi)

Moderate paced walk up past "Kevin's" mailbox and back. Nice, refreshing morning with no fog.

Strength exercises 40:00 [4]

Haven't done these at home for a while. Did the three theraband upper body exercises, three sets each, interleaved with pilates mat exercises. Then 3 sets each of curls and military presses, with one set of hip (clam shells) exercises in between.

Skyline. Got out way too late after a difficult morning, mostly trying to buy rail passes and reservations for our July trip to Europe. By then, my body chemistry was flipping out; I kept having small bits of food to keep me going, but I had an overwhelming feeling I had to go out and sprint hard (which wasn't at all my planned workout) just to relieve my frustration and to get my internals to settle down (whatever that might mean). Finally, I just bolted out and started running front-of-house laps, waiting for Louise to get ready. It was foggy, windy and chilly out, adding to the unpleasantness. After about 16 minutes (2 laps, then some running around the front yard), we finally got going on the Black-and-back run. Felt decent except for the uphills, where I felt pitiful. But I stuck at out (mostly slow pace) and was glad to get the distance in - and to feel like my "body chemistry" had settled down.

Front of house: 628, 601 (my mind wanted to sprint but my legs didn't)
Yard: 350
Usual 5.66 mi:
---------------134(1159)1333(505)1835(716)2551(651)3242
6412(121)6251(1251)5000(435)4525(605)3920(638)

Basketball 5:00 [3]

Good to be on the court again after a couple of weeks away. Finished with two full court drives, first dribbling righty then lefty, and actually made both layups.

Strength exercises 15:00 [4]

Bar exercises: 5-6-16, SB for the last two, =SB for the first. Happy with the sudden burst of energy.

Curls, military presses, "punches". No time for anything more, but a good, intense workout.

Running (Easy distance minus) 53:00 [3] 4.7 mi (11:17 / mi)
shoes: Kayano 16 White

Lake Ranch Reservoir. Tried going early to beat the heat, but it was already very unpleasant. Quads and chest congestion a good deal better, but given the heat, we just ran very slowly.

Tried the "new" trail another runner told us about at the end of the lake. It was nice for about 200m, but then after that, had to scramble over some fallen trees. Went about 0.35 mi and then turned back. (Accidentally hit pause on my watch when I meant to take a split at the turnaround.)

Splits (reconstructed) for the usual 4.0 miles:

---501(533)1034(502)1536(459)2035
4133(510)3623(616)3007(439)2528(453)

Helicopters were coming by to scoop up water from the lake to douse a nearby fire. We'd seen and smelled the smoke on the drive over. A bit disconcerting.

Just walked around for a cool down.
