Running (Easy dist / hills) 1:40:53 [3] 7.0 mi (14:25 / mi) +448m 12:01 / mi
shoes: Salomon SC 3 blue

Big Basin. Timms Creek Trail cut-off of Berry Creek Falls loop. This was fun. Went quite slowly (had to keep braking behind L on the downhills); could have easily run 5 minutes faster with the same effort, and I think 10 minutes faster is quite do-able; good long-term goal would be under 80. Excellent physical training, beautiful place.

Amazing how much easier it is for me to run than walk. This was so much more comfortable than when I've hiked here. On the first hill up the Dool and Sunset Trails to Middle Ridge Road, I walked all the parts where there are roots in the trails (half of it) and still had a split 2/3 of what I did when I hiked it a couple of weeks ago.

Garmin went kerblooie after split #5. Even before that, distances were 10% less than when we walked this a couple of weeks ago. The 7 miles I'm using for the distance combines trail map distances with Garmin distances from the parts of the walk where the track matched the trail well.

58 degrees at the start, 73 at the finish. Wore light blue Icebreaker running top and orienteering pants. An orienteering top or even a singlet would've been better after the first few minutes. Carried 5oz of Vitalyte, drank 2oz, didn't even really need that.

Note
(rest day)

Would have been a good day to do an upper body workout, but giving my shoulder a rest.

Stretching 1:45:00 [1]

The usual weekly accumulation of morning stretching and strength exercises. With my quads feeling better, have added core exercises back in. However, no pushups due to sore right shoulder.

Running (Easy distance) 39:58 [3] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Kayano 20 Blue

Lake Ranch Reservoir. Foggy, cool (mid 50's): great running weather. Tried to get out earlier, but didn't start running until 10:40. Quads and hams a bit sore, but don't feel damaged. Trudged along with L for the first 2 miles, but still considerably quicker than we've been doing. L fell behind after the turn, and I was feeling OK, so slowly picked it up a bit. Never felt real good, but the splits were much faster than I've been doing lately, and was very pleased to finish under 40.

Strength exercises 15:00 [4]

JCCLG. A very abbreviated workout as I didn't have much energy and didn't want to irritate my right shoulder. Nevertheless, my shoulder did seem a bit irritated later. Think I better cut out all strength exercises that involve my arms for a while.

Running (Easy dist / hills) 1:13:31 [3] 5.5 mi (13:22 / mi) +351m 11:09 / mi
shoes: Salomon SC 3 blue

Lake Ranch Reservoir. First time running all the way the new John Nicholas Trail. Took it quite slowly, and it was not that difficut, except that 45 minutes out, my lower right calf started to cramp. But by running on my heels, I managed to keep going, and with 5 minutes to go it actually stopped bothering me. Back is almost healed. Neck, quads, shins weren't bothering me, so this is the best I've felt in a while. It was too warm (we started running at 11:30); running earlier would really help.

Can certainly do this run in under 70, and under 65 seems like a good goal.

This run is supposed to be 5.5 mi; GPS reported 4.92, but the track shows it clearly missed a lot of wiggles.

512(556)1108*(527)1635(524)2159 *:30 piddle break at the one mile mark
(830)3029 Three trees (0.5mi)
(352)3421 Rock on bend (0.25mi)
(313)3734 -tried to get the log which we once ran up to, but I was 2 switchbacks short
(1928)5702 Nice stone culvert with bench, a little before giant rocks
(947)6649 Rreentrant with car wreck in it
(504)7153 John Nicholas meets Skyline Trail
