Phoenix Lake. Sunny, cool (53 degrees, breezy). Legs tired after orienteering training just 18 hours ago, came out mostly because it was a sunny day. Planned to take it easy, and I did, but it felt more sluggish than easy, especially over the last mile.

NOTE: Now listing this run as 2.75 miles rather than 2.6.
Also: from now on, will make the start same as the finish rather than 15 yards earlier.

Fairly brisk walk up from parking to the dam. Not much jogging because L was walking. Road is now quite muddy despite new gravel in many places.

Cool down. Went down the stairs on the S side of the dam, so this included about 1.5 minutes of walking. Jogged an extra minute plus near the parking lot.

The usual weekly accumulation of morning exercises. Mostly lacked the time to get in the full set.

Bon Tempe. Ran the last 5 controls on the Red course from November that were on my vetting map.

Cool, overcast, but didn't get rained on until stretching at the end. Started around 3:30. Had intended to go out there in the morning, but got pushed back as I waited for gutter cleaner at Greenfield.

It was very lovely and peaceful out there, and with the ground softened from the rain and the vegetation somewhat beaten down, it was quite runnable. Didn't push hard, but did a good job of keeping moving forward, and navigated quite well. Really enjoyed it (and it got me out of a bad mood).

Control numbers are the ones used in the actual Red course. Note that the last leg I ran today was also on Green. In some cases there were routes on the road that were better, but went out there to run in terrain, so I eschewed the road routes.

Warm up. Parked by the junction of the trail around the lake with Sky Oaks Rd, and jogged on the trail until I joined up with the middle part of the leg to #9.

Phoenix Lake. Started around 10:40. Got the run in before the rain started. I was in a hurry anyway because I needed to get to Oracle by early afternoon. So, started off running harder than "easy" and never really stopped pushing the pace. I've run a little faster on this run and still called those runs "easy distance", but this was definitely a higher effort run. Definitely picked it up when I turned at the second bridge; all the remaining splits were equal to or faster than my fastest (2557) on 10-1-19.

Started out doing my "usual" run to the second bridge on the Hidden Meadow Trail and back. As I approached the turn to going around Phoenix Lake, I caught up to L, who said she was going to go around the lake, so I followed suit. The run around the lake was much slower, more like orienteering pace. So, it was like two different workouts in one.
