Running (Easy distance) 31:43 [3] 2.65 mi (11:58 / mi) +70m 11:04 / mi

Ross - Phoenix Lake. High 40's, no wind, should've worn lighter long-sleeve top.

Last night, it was announced that all parks in Marin are now closed because so many people crowded into them yesterday, not observing social distancing. So, we decided to run through the streets of Ross, figuring we might find some dirt or gravel margins. Parked near Bread & Butter at the southern end of San Anselmo and started the run at the corner of San Anselmo Ave and Bolinas Ave. Down Shady Lane (fair amount of gravel margin) then onto Lagunitas, where there was a dirt horse path on the right side (had never particularly noticed when driving by). L suggested we check out the gate to Natalie Green park - and to our surprise, the sign indicated vehicular traffic prohibited, but foot traffic OK. So we ran down the road to the parking lot, then up to the dam then along Phoenix Rd to the fork with the Yolanda Trail, then back to the dam.

Stayed with L the whole time, so this was a pretty easy run. Could've run a lot more at this pace, but, in any case, was feeling like running myself down is not really thing to do when I need my immune system to be at it's strongest.

Cooled down a bit on the dam and then down the road almost to the parking lot, and then walked all the way back to the car (had to jog quite a few times to keep up with L). Cool down logged below.

1517 --- to gate on road into the park
352 ----- to parking lot
343 ----- up to usual start (started split a little late)
433 ----- junction w/Yolanda Trail
417 ----- back to usual finish (same as usual start) by the dam

[Easy distance]

Walking warm up/down 34:02 [2] 2.0 mi (17:01 / mi)
shoes: Speedcross 5

Cool down, including initial jog then long walk:

614 --- cool down jog, almost to parking lot
1834 --- walk back to Shady Lane
913 ----- on Shady Lane back to car

Running (Easy distance ) 38:34 [3] 3.8 mi (10:09 / mi) +75m 9:34 / mi
shoes: Speedcross 5

Phoenix Lake. Left parking lot at 7:20. 40 degrees but no wind, was fine for running. Felt pretty strong, could have run another mile for sure but L needed to be back. Amazingly, didn't feel any anxiety about being out there.

Instead of going on the single track Hidden Meadow Trail, continued up Shaver Grade. On my own, would have gone further up, to Concrete Pipe Rd, and ran on that towards the Hillside of Death, but didn't so as to accommodate L. Getting up that hill was not bad. Also, started the run from the parking lot (well, the beginning of the bridge just off the parking lot), and that hill didn't seem that bad either.

Out and back run. Read down the first column for splits on the way out, then up the second column for splits on the way back.

Phoenix Lake usual start -- 358 ----- 3141
----------------------------------- (602) ---- (500)
Jct with trail around lake -- 1000 ---- 2651
----------------------------------- (127) ---- (120)
Phoenix Junction ----------- 1127 ---- 2531
----------------------------------- (519) --- (348)
Hidden Meadow Trail ------ 1647 --- 2143
----------------------------------- (300) --- (156)
Large pipe under Shaver ------- 1947 ------ this is at the big bend, in the redwood grove

49 loop back for L at Hidden Meadow Trail, coming down

40 Ross Trail (end of dam)
39 back to start
218 drainage pipe under Phoenix Lake Rd (past the little building by the lake)
13 turn around
202 back to start

Usual 2nd bridge run would have been about 2640

[Easy distance]

Running warm up/down 6:00 [2] 0.35 mi (17:09 / mi)
shoes: Speedcross 5

Cool down. One loop on the dam, then tacking back and forth down towards the parking lot. That only gave me a 3 min walk to the car, so hopped and drove off before I was completely cooled down.

Stretching 3:45:00 [2]

The usual weekly accumulation of morning exercises. Mostly complete sessions, but didn't do much on the two mornings I went out for very early runs.

Note

Got out for a ten minute walk around the neighborhood in the late afternoon. More people around than usual, but everyone kept a safe distance.

Did two of the PT exercises Kevin gave me. He thinks it's an inflamed rotator cuff, and these exercises are designed to open up space to keep it from getting inflamed. The correct posture is essential, always a challenge for me. Didn't do much, but nevertheless managed to irritate both my shoulder and my back a bit.

Running (Easy distance) 27:21 [3] 2.68 mi (10:12 / mi)
shoes: Speedcross 5

Phoenix Lake. Left parking lot at 755am. Definitely fewer people out at this time, so was mostly not too anxious about proximity to others. Trying not to overdo it, a pretty relaxed run, decent finish. Avoided going on the single track part (Hidden Meadows trail to second bridge) because there's a small section there where it would be very hard not to be very close to someone coming the other way.

Usual 2.75 mi second bridge run would have been around 2803, very similar to two days ago.

Out and back run. Read down the first column for splits on the way out, then up the second column for splits on the way back.

Phoenix Lake ----------------- start ---- 2408
----------------------------------- (609) ---- (516)
Jct with trail around lake --- 609 ---- 1851
----------------------------------- (127) ---- (124)
Phoenix Junction ------------ 737 ---- 1726
----------------------------------- (538) -- (411)
Hidden Meadow Trail ----------- 1315

To Ross Trail (on dam): 39
Loop backs (2): 313

[Easy distance]

Running warm up/down 4:25 [2] 0.25 mi (17:41 / mi) +25m 13:29 / mi
shoes: Speedcross 5

Warm up from parking lot up the hill to the dam, several short walks.

Jogged a little extra (not logged) at the top waiting for L to get there.

Running warm up/down 6:00 [2] 0.32 mi (18:45 / mi)
shoes: Speedcross 5

Cool down on the dam for a couple of minutes, then halfway down the fire road. That enabled us to jump in the car immediately and drive off.

Running (Easy distance) 40:40 [3] 4.17 mi (9:45 / mi)
shoes: Speedcross 5

Phoenix Lake. Managed to catch the only bit of sun all day. Quads were quite tired from the last two days of fast walking up big hills.

There were enough people out there that I got very anxious from proximity to them. Logically, I knew I was still far enough from them to not violate social distancing, but I couldn't control the anxiety I felt ever time someone got close. Seemed that some of them made no effort to stay on the opposite side of the fire road from me, and that made me feel that they probably don't get it and spent last evening carousing intimately with large groups of people, fueling further anxiety. Yeesh, and the main purpose of going out there was to enjoy nature and feel relaxed - didn't happen :((

Out and back run. Read down the first column for splits on the way out, then up the second column for splits on the way back.

Phoenix Lake ----------------- start ---- 2814
----------------------------------- (606) ---- (538)
Jct with trail around lake --- 606 ---- 2238
----------------------------------- (129) ---- (124)
Phoenix Junction ------------ 735 ---- 2114
----------------------------------- (526)* -- (416)
Hidden Meadow Trail ------ 1302 --- 1657
----------------------------------- (200) --- (154)
Second bridge -------------------- 1502

*Fell in about the same place I fell last time I did this run (Feb 19) [though I'd passed by this spot several other times since on different runs]. This time, I was trying to get away from two women on bicycles who weren't going much faster than me and were making me edgy by being so close.

Continuing clockwise around lake...

Finish (same as start) -----------------4040
---------------------------------- (511) --- (453)
Jct w/Allen trail ------------- 3329 ---- 3546
----------------------------------- (102) ---- (114)
Stairs at end of lake ------------ 3431

Also: 144 over 3 loop backs during the latter part of the run (I'd caught up to L who started a few minutes before me)

[Easy distance]

Running warm up/down 4:17 [3] 0.25 mi (17:09 / mi) +25m 13:05 / mi
shoes: Speedcross 5

Warm up, jogging most of it, a few spurts to get past people, walked a couple of times. Rested for ten secs at the top.

Running warm up/down 6:00 [2] 0.35 mi (17:09 / mi)
shoes: Speedcross 5

Cool down on the dam. Sun was nice, had a couple of minutes of peace.
