Saturday Mar 29

Road Bike race 3:12:10 [5] 96 km (2:00 / km)
ahr:152
Le Race. Did okay but 4 days climbing/mountaineering probably isn't an ideal taper. My legs seemed to feel pretty flat and I couldn't seem to get my heart rate up much.

It was pretty ideal conditions though.

6min to bottom of Dyers Pass Rd
24min to Sign of the Kiwi
51min to bottom of Gebbies
1hr38min to Cooptown
2hr03min to top of Hill top
3hr12min to finish.

Friday Mar 28

Tramping 3:00:00 [1]
Wandered out of the South Temple Valley.

Thursday Mar 27

Tramping 2:00:00 [2]
800m climb up to the base of the climb (Butterfly Buttress) with all the climbing gear. Plus descent from top of Bruce Pk back to camp.

Was about 12 pitches of climbing on the route, quite a nice climb but very cold weather.

Wednesday Mar 26

Tramping 2:00:00 [2]
900m climb up to the base of the climb (Weta Prowl) with all the climbing gear. Plus descent from top of Steeple Pk back to camp.

Was about 8 pitches of climbing on the route, a very nice climb but very cold weather.

Tuesday Mar 25

Tramping 3:30:00 [2]
Wandered up the South Temple Valley in preparation for climbing the next couple of days.

Monday Mar 24

Note
Spent Easter at Paynes Ford sport climbing. It went surprisingly well considering how little climbing I've been doing over the past few months.

Thursday Mar 20

Note
Looking at my past 2 weeks training it seems I have been doing a lot of long high intensity training. I'm putting down my slowness yesterday to the cold and the hard training. The next week of rock climbing should freshen up the legs for Le Race.

Wednesday Mar 19

Rogaine race 2:51:30 [5]
ahr:154 max:178
Twilight rogaine, had a pretty good route but still could have been a bit better. We skipped a few controls that we probably should have got. Ended up getting back way too early but not being able to pick up any controls near the finish.

Went hard at the start and then I kind of died later on. Not sure what the cause was, could have been the heat or the pace or getting over my cold or the hard ride yesterday. Hopefully a combo of the getting over the cold and the hard ride. The pace didn't really feel any harder than other events but my ave heart rate is a good 12 beats higher than last week when I was sick.

Was struggling to read the map the last 45mins. Couldn't really focus on exactly where I was on the map, just the general area where I was. Nav still seemed okay but probably just easy controls.

Tuesday Mar 18

Road Bike 2:21:00 [4] 74 km (1:54 / km)
Long Bays bunch ride. Felt pretty good today, was near the front most of the way round and ended up 3rd up to top of Evans. Couldn't quite catch Michael though, ran out of hill.

Saturday Mar 15

Road Bike 2:56:00 [4] 69.5 km (2:32 / km)
From Little River along the Le Race course to Akaroa and then around the bays back to Little River. Lots of hills near the end of the race will make it an interesting event. Went with Robert.

Been feeling a bit sick since Tuesday night, got a blocked nose, stiffness and glands seems to be up in the neck. Hopefully will improve over the next few days as my legs were feeling pretty flat today.

Also need to sort out my gears as they keep jumping in the 4th and 5th cog at the back.

Note: 1:43:00 from Little River to Akaroa.
C • easy 2

Wednesday Mar 12

Rogaine race 2:57:00 [4]
ahr:142
Second Wednesday Rogaine, did it with Robert. Was a fairly good route we had I think. Missed a 60 and 30 pointer as we couldn't find them, suspect the 60 was not in the correct place and we were slightly off for the 30. Also a bit lazy at the end could prob have got another 20 points.

Felt pretty poor all day, was struggling to concentrate and had headache and sore and stiff all over.
C • Looked like another steep a... 2

Tuesday Mar 11

Road Bike 5:17:00 [4] 125 km (2:32 / km)
Long Bays bunch ride then along summit road and the loop out to Gebbies pass and up to Coopers knob. Then along the summit road and down to Em's place and along the bottom of the hills back. Felt good all the way to Em's, then legs felt wasted from there back to home.

Sunday Mar 9

Road Bike 2:47:00 [4] 68.6 km (2:26 / km)
ahr:140 rhr:46
Did the figure 8 with Robert. Dyers-SoK-Governers-Summit Rd-SoK-Lyttleton-Summit Rd-Dyers

Felt okay but legs felt a little bit flat and tired still.

Saturday Mar 8

Kayaking 1:30:00 [1]
Some easy kayaking with Joe, Al and Amber up the Heathcote. Tried out the Evo Edge and the Sharp. The edge felt quite stable and with a bit more padding might be quite nice to paddle.

Thursday Mar 6

Road Bike 1:43:00 [3] 38 km (2:43 / km)
ahr:126 rhr:49
Up Dyers, down around round to Gebbies then up along the Summit Rd to SoK and down Dyers again. With Chris and Em. Pretty relaxing ride all up, a few little half sprints thrown in although I gave up pretty quickly.

Wednesday Mar 5

Rogaine race 3:07:00 [4]
First of the Port Hills rogaines. Great map and really awecome control placements. Made it challenging enough so you weren't bored and also really tricky trying to get a good route. I was a bit over ambitious with our course and we ended up spending the last 30mins flying along the road and down the hill getting no points. Felt pretty happy with my navigation except for the last two controls. Also a bit of a silly route choice early on prob cost us a couple of hundred points.

Did it with Andreas and Robert.

Tuesday Mar 4

Road Bike 1:50:00 [3] 50 km (2:12 / km)
Long bays bunch ride, gear started playing up after Gebbies so everytime I tried to peddle hard the gears would jumped between two cogs. So headed up Dyers and just cruised back home.

Afternoon project is to try and sort out the gears.
Mountain Biking 2:50:00 [2]
Em tempted me with a mountain bike ride. My first in about 4yrs in chch. Went up Crocodile then up Kennedy's bush track. It's quite a cool track up, technical but not too hard to ride. Then along the summit road tracks until Rapaki, could ride most of it except for a few of the little rocky sections where I didn't commit to it properly. Then discovered I had a flat tire at top of Rapaki. Then down Rapaki and home on the road. Tire stayed up until I made it back home.

Need to soften up my shocks a bit and sort out my pedals and the gears also then I'll feel a bit more comfortable.

Monday Mar 3

Note
Rockclimbing at Castle Rock with some Brit travellers, did:
Buttress Corner 18
Judgement 20
Expedition Crack 17
Hangman 17

Really nice afternoon out.

Sunday Mar 2

Orienteering race 1:16:34 [4]
OY2 at Mt Vernon. Biked to and from the event. Quite a nice course considering it's on farmland. One dodgy control where I lost about 3-4mins. The control was about 10 vertical metres above where it was marked on the map and nothing really matched up. Also managed to go off the map at another control and lost about 7mins. Wasn't accurate enough coming into the control circle and then went off the edge of the map and everything looked the same as where I should have been. The rest of the course went okay, need to run more aggressively in the farmland.

Chris Forne managed 49mins or so, so i'm quite a bit slower than the winners time.

Saturday Mar 1

Road Bike 3:00:00 [3] 60 km (3:00 / km)
Up Dyers, along tops to Gebbies then round the bottom to Lyttleton and then back along the tops to Dyers and down. With Chris, Michael, Em and Ian F.

Lovely rain the whole way, not too bad actually so quite fun. Legs still feel a bit tired especially on the longer hills.

Not sure of the exact distance as my speedo stopped working due to the rain after about 40mins.
