More stretching.

Wednesday Jul 30

Stretching/Strength 1:00:00 [1]
(injured)
Yoga

Tuesday Jul 29

Stretching/Strength 40:00 [1]
(injured)
More stretching and saunas in the hope of something working. Legs still feel a bit tight but knee doesn't hurt quite as much now.

Monday Jul 28

Stretching/Strength 35:00 [1]
(injured)
Stretching to try and sort out my leg. Then a sauna in the hope that it would help. Seemed to help for a little while afterwards.

Sunday Jul 27

Rogaine race 6:00:00 [4]
(injured)
Marlbrough 6hr rogaine. It was split into a 3hr urban section and a 3hr topo map section. Tim and I did the urban section first, lots of running on the roads and footpaths, we didn't take a great route as there were lots of high pointers near the start and so we got them all first. Ended up running further than we needed to for the points we got. Then a 45min break and onto the topo map. The area was really large for 3hrs and no one really covered much over half of the map. All was well until 45mins into it my knee started to hurt lots. Not sure if it's an ITB problem or something else. The pain is coming from that part of my knee and feels a bit inflamed. Hopefully it will settle down in the next few days and I can work on fixing it. The next 2hrs were just me hobbling round the course collecting a few controls but in quite a lot of pain on the downhills. We ended up 2nd which wasn't too bad an effort.

Think my knee problem may have been due to the 3hrs of road running with a small pack on. Or perhaps swapping shoes for the topo map. The knee felt fine on the road but about 15min into the topo map it started to twinge and then after 45min was really sore.

Saturday Jul 26

Mountain Biking 3:30:00 [3]25 km (8:24 / km)
Did the Wakamarina track up by Blenheim with Ian and Al. It's a really cool track with a nice easy uphill start then a little bike carry followed by a technical descent (800m in 2.5km). A few nice crashes by me but no major injuries. Took about 6hrs including stops.

Thursday Jul 24

Orienteering 40:00 [3]
Running round at Halswell Quarry putting out controls in the wrong places and then collecting them back in. There is one out there still if anyone feels like swimming out to it. Tim F kindly put it out for me.

Wednesday Jul 23

Stretching/Strength 50:00 [1]
Yoga, felt quite good after having the cold all week.
Running 1:07:00 [3]9 km (7:27 / km)
ahr:147
Up Rapaki, along to the farm park track and down again. Lower calves and arches got real sore on the run up but fine on way down.

Saturday Jul 19

Catching Features 45:00 [0]
(sick)
Some intense Catching Features action. It seems my map reading is just as poor as it is in real life. Was slowly getting back into it by the end. Having a cold wasn't helping me.

Thursday Jul 17

Running 36:30 [5]8 km (4:34 / km)
Loop of the lake. We went pretty fast and combined with the run last night and not quite enough sleep it felt like hard work the last couple of km.

Good run though.

Wednesday Jul 16

Stretching/Strength 50:00 [1]
Yoga
Running 1:10:00 [3]10 km (7:00 / km)
ahr:144
Up Bowenvale Valley, then up the Lava Flow track, around the Summit road MTB track then down through Vic Park.

Tuesday Jul 15

Road Bike 2:35:00 [4]76 km (2:02 / km)
ahr:135
Long Bays bunch ride. Hill champion again today, well most of the hills Al managed to steal a couple from me. I was feeling pretty good although not strong enough on the short steep hill and lack a bit of endurance for the top 1min of the long climbs.

New rear spoke seems to be working okay.

Sunday Jul 13

Road Bike 59:30 [4]32 km (1:52 / km)
Ride home from orienteering at Woodend. Was riding quite well and going pretty fast until Church Corner then the pure strength of my legs managed to rip apart one of my wheel spokes and I had to get a ride home. I was just turning a corner and was just starting to pedal out of it when I heard a loud crack sound then all of a sudden I was going slow. Silly fancy spokes too so no doubt it will cost lots to replace.

Riding much better than my orienteering.
Orienteering race 1:11:40 [4]7.2 km (9:57 / km)
ahr:160
OY at Woodend, really nice course, lots of tricky legs zig zagging across the terrain. My running was strong and I felt like I was able to run more of the little up hills than normal. Although I think my speed was my downfall too. I was running too fast for me to be able to read the detail of the map so was running until I was pretty much in the circle and then not being sure where I was. I need to slow down once I get to my attackpoint and go directly to the control.

A really poor race navigation wise which was a pity as it is a really good technical map and I can run technical maps well (SI champs at Flock Hill).
Orienteering race 23:50 [4]2.9 km (8:13 / km)
Ran the short red course after doing long red. Again a really nice course but again I still managed to make mistakes like going to the 3rd control before the 2nd one. And I'd even been to the 2nd one on my first course. Lots of short legs and I was still running okay.

I think I was about 13mins ahead of the first place but I'm pretty sure a sub 20min run would be quite easy to do. Oh and the timing on the 3rd control was wrong. Somehow I managed to go back in time 4secs between the controls so SportIdent was trying to tell me I mispunched even though it was giving me a time.

Saturday Jul 12

Mountain Biking 3:30:00 [2]41 km (5:07 / km) +1050m 4:32 / km
ahr:125
Up Kennedy's minus Crocodile. Then along flying nun, down through Vic Park, up Rapaki, along summit road track and down through top part of Vic park before heading down the road home. Went with Dennis, a pretty cruisy ride all up. I really need to improve my technical riding as he dropped me on all the hard single track.

Need to alter my bike setup a little bit as it felt like I was being launched over the front on the little jumps.

Stretching

Thursday Jul 10

Running 38:00 [4]8 km (4:45 / km)
Loop out to the lake and back. Last 500m towards the underpass went hard. Rest pretty constant pace.

Wednesday Jul 9

Stretching/Strength 50:00 [1]
Yoga

Tuesday Jul 8

Road Bike 2:45:00 [3]73 km (2:16 / km)
ahr:133
Long bays bunch ride. Pretty cruisy ride today, although someone was being very strict about 10mins at the front each. Won both passes...all due to the fact no one else was even going hard.

Monday Jul 7

Stretching/Strength 50:00 [1]
Just some stretching and a few ab exercises.

Sunday Jul 6

Mountain Biking race 19:50 [4]5.8 km (3:25 / km)
Sprint MTB orienteering out at Spenser Park. Lots of fun with heaps of interlinked tracks and quick decision making. Stuffed up a few of the controls and found quite a deep marsh after all the rain.

Mountain Biking race 1:23:00 [4]25 km (3:19 / km)
Long MTB event at Spenser Park. Easier navigation on the whole with more time to think about route choice. Still made a few mistakes, although the control that got moved was a little bit harder to find. Riding in the soft sand is so slow!

My poor chain and gears after all the sand, and even after a good clean it still sounds a bit unhappy.

Saturday Jul 5

Mountain Biking 1:38:00 [2]23 km (4:16 / km)
Test riding my new bike. Up Rapaki, along the road as some of the tracks were closed. Then last half of summit road track and down through the top of Vic park and then down the road home.

Friday Jul 4

Stretching/Strength 45:00 [1]
More ab exercises and some stretching. Ab exercises aren't causing enough pain anymore so prob have to work out some way to increase the exercise.

Thursday Jul 3

Running 41:30 [3]8 km (5:11 / km)
ahr:150
From work, out to Lincoln Rd, around pond and back. Nice cruisy pace.

2x2min wall sit after some stretching.

Wednesday Jul 2

Stretching/Strength 50:00 [1]
Yoga

Tuesday Jul 1

Road Bike 1:05:00 [3]32 km (2:02 / km)
Ended up just going out to Tai Tapu and back with Joe. Very icy and we thought around the bays might just be a bit too much. Watched 3 people crash off their bikes while waiting at PMH, all on the same corner with a good amount of black ice.
