Orienteering race 35:27 [5]
Flock Hill middle distance race. I had a really really good run. Didn't make any big mistakes, mainly just searching for the control in the circle. Prob 30sec each control in the rocks. Would be pretty hard to nail them all.

Carsten won in 31min15secs I think so pretty happy with how close I am to the winners time. Was really pushing it in the last 1/4. Need to practice my downhill running a bit more as I was a bit slow on this. Plus improve my overall speed/strength as I felt stuffed before I even reached #1.

6th Overall.

Orienteering race 2:01:00 [4]
Dalethorpe race, it was the Classic distance for SI champs. 11.5km. I felt pretty tired/slow. My HR wasn't very high but I didn't seem to be able to go very fast. Lost 9mins by #4 so wasn't going too well. Made two decent sized mistakes, one on 4 and the other on 18. Just got a bit lazy with my attackpoint on 4 and then wasn't 100% sure when attacking the control. 18 I think I was tired, I went down one re entrant too soon. But looking at the map afterwards I shouldn't really have been using the reentrant for anything so a bit silly.

Seem to have strained something on the inside of my right knee last night too so that was a bit sore and I was quite careful on the rough open stuff.

Carsten won in 1hr20mins

Event: South Island Champs

Orienteering race 17:05 [5]
South Island Sprint champs. Came 12th and had a good run. A few small mistakes but only 10-15secs max. Need to run faster as Michael Adams caught me halfway round putting a further minute on me by the end.

Cool little map too.

Winner was Chris Forne in 14:55.
Orienteering race 1:24:00 [4]
The night race. 8.4km of disaster. I managed to make it to control 1 okay. Then 2 and 3 were really bad. 2 I went to the wrong control first and 3 I had to run back to a fence to relocate.

Not sure what went wrong really I wasn't able to stay on a bearing and kept zig zagging everywhere. I was zigging and zagging both ways too. Maybe it was the narrow light beam. I didn't really feel in contact with the map either, only for very brief moments.

Need to fix up my headtorch attachment so it doesn't bounce round so much.

Last place I think. Chris managed about 55min I think.
