Orienteering race 53:40 [4]
ahr:157
OY3 at Acheron, ran medium red 5.9km and 160m of climb as I was a bit tired from yesterday. I think it was a good decision as 6km felt long enough and I really enjoyed it.

The map is really dodgy though, so many clearing aren't marked and the ones that are aren't any bigger or more distinct.

Stuffed up #1 as I couldn't work out why my 4WD track was marked as an indistinct track and got a bit confused. #2 veered off to the right, the re-entrant was very shallow. Then #3 came across a re-entrant and thought it was mine but I had stopped too soon. Looking at the map afterwards there is a very slight re-entrant on the map that I was in. Finally #4 was absolute rubbish, the vegetation boundary in the marsh didn't exist, it was supposed to be between open and forest but it was all open. Then near the control there were quite a lot of open areas that weren't marked. The control shouldn't really have been here or the map should have been improved. #9 and #11 also had the clearings partly missing. Lastly stuffed up #14 and #17 taking very poor route choices in the open. Probably lost a minute on each of these controls.

So overall I made a lot of mistakes partly due to the map and partly because of me. I also had some good legs but I think 45mins would have been pretty easy had I not made all the above mistakes.

Road Bike 4:39:00 [3] 97 km (2:53 / km)

Out Chris and Em's via Michael's place, then up and along Summit Road to SoK down and around to Gebbies then up to Summit Road, back along to SoK down and around to Lyttleton, then up Evans and along Summit Road back to Sok. Then for a little extra up to the top of Worsleys Track. Finally down Dyers and home.

It was supposed to be a cruisy ride but there still ended up being quite a few sprints and fast climbs. I tried to avoid most of this but still ended up in a few sprints and fast climbs, luckly I've been feeling lazy so I dropped off pretty quick anyway.

Control Collecting 35:00 [2]
Setting out controls for the training tonight. Misplaced #1 which was annoying as it seemed to stuff people up a bit causing them to lose their confidence and get frustrated. The map also seems to be a bit dodgy in places, the boulders could really do with being mapped better.

I think I might have ended up making it a bit too hard as it required you to pretty much spike the controls to see the reflectors (or stuff up and go beyond the control).

Road Bike 2:38:00 [2] 61 km (2:35 / km)
ahr:131
Up Dyers, down and around to Gebbies, up to summit road and along to Mt Pleasant, then down and home via Chris and Em's. The ride was going to be longer but we ended up waiting so long we just came home instead. The ride was nice and cruisy apart from up to Coopers Knob and the little hill by Rapaki on the way home.

Tuesday May 6

Road Bike 2:42:00 [3] 76 km (2:08 / km)

Long Bays bunch ride. It was a very cold morning with frost everywhere. It ended up being a quite cruisy ride, I waited for Em and then we caught up to Sia so had a nice ride around the bays and up Evans.

I think overboots would be a very good idea.

Monday May 5

Road Bike 2:37:00 [1] 42 km (3:44 / km)
A very cruisy trip around short bays with Chris, Em, Michael and Neroli. Quite a chilly ride. I think I'll be looking for some warmer clothes tonight.
