Other (Gardening) 1 [1]

Does gardening count? Couldn't put it off any longer: a lovely sunny day and they say it's good exercise.

Friday May 30, 2008 #

Other (Fieldwork) 1 [1]

Does fieldwork count? Just spent a very nice three days in the field around Oban with students.

Gym stuff 55:00 [3]

A bit tired, and weather grey. Did 30 min on the rower (6300m) and 15 min S&C exercises, plus warm up/down.

Monday May 26, 2008 #

Running tempo 41:00 [3]

Steady tempo run round Penicuik Estate and woods. Fieldwork until Thursday will curtail training.

Walking in terrain 3:00:00 [1]

This and next two days spent at Tullochroisk in connection with Scottish Champs.

Thursday May 22, 2008 #

Running 39:00 [3]

Steady run round the 11 hills of Blackford route. Still feeling a bit stiff.

Wednesday May 21, 2008 #

Circuit training 50:00 [3]

Felt pretty tired and stiff and took things a bit easier this evening. Probably due to some heavy DIY and giving blood.

Circuit training warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Nothing much yesterday, just pottering around town by bike.
Steady run today, KB-Craiglockhart Hills-KB. Paced this well and felt pretty good at the end.

Sunday May 18, 2008 #

Cycle hills 2:05:00 [3]

Great day, and not as busy at Glentress as expected. Red, plus three loops to visit skills and see new trail build. Had a chat with Andrew W, who, I am pleased to say, is still using his degree to good effect as trail designer and builder.

Saturday May 17, 2008 #

Swimming 40:00 [3]

Felt pretty good in the pool today, even though R shoulder still not 100%. The walk to and from was another 50 min at Intensity 1.

Friday May 16, 2008 #

Running intervals 30:00 [4]

Not much time this lunchtime - might put in a session this evening too. Along to Blackford Hill for 5 x 2 min steep hill intervals. Felt pretty good and L calf just about back to normal.

Thursday May 15, 2008 #

Running warm up/down 35:00 [2]

This was a really easy jog up and down and roundabout on Blackford Hill.

Wednesday May 14, 2008 #

Circuit training 45:00 [4]

3 x 2 x 30s exercises each station, 9 stations - usual stuff. Paced it about right and felt satisfyingly knackered at the end. Off to the pub to rehydrate.

Other warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Tuesday May 13, 2008 #

Running 35:00 [3]

Testing out the calf. Easy lunchtime run with 5x1min pretty firm pushes and a longer hill. Still a bit sore, but improving.

Monday May 12, 2008 #

Gym stuff 1:00:00 [3]

In the end, not much of the planned rest today. Nothing like a bit of cycling when your calf is dodgy - 35min of "random" course on the gym bike, which is basically a little bit of up and down. Then quite a lot of reps with some light weights and S&C exercises.

Running race (Orienteering) 1:12:50 [5] *** 5.6 km (13:00 / km) +175m 11:15 / km
spiked:14/21c

Not my best run, and probably should have rested my left calf. However, the real reason for being about 6-7 minutes down was a total loss of concentration when running with AL to #14. Must solve this concentration thing - it happens too often. Quite pleased to see I wasn't even half way down the field despite the debacle, but the flip side is that it was a good run spolied. Rest tomorrow.

Running race (Sprint Orienteering) 27:39 [5] **** 3.0 km (9:13 / km) +155m 7:19 / km
spiked:15/21c

Scottish Sprint O Champs in Stirling. Good run, a few small mistakes but nothing major. Thicket, #13 was a bit of a liberty with the control description - thicket nowhere to be seen! 3rd Super Vet and only a minute down on Eddie Harwood, which can't be bad. Pretty sore left calf at the end though.

Thursday May 8, 2008 #

Running intervals 32:00 [4]

20 x (50s+50s), more stride outs than full-on intervals. On flat grass.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2]

Wednesday May 7, 2008 #

Walking in terrain 2:00:00 [1]

Fitted in a last planning visit to Tullochroisk on the way back from Oban, just to check a couple of things and chat to the farmer. Magic evening.

Monday May 5, 2008 #

Running tempo 46:00 [3]

Bog standard lunchtime run, KB-Braidburn-Braids-KB.

Sunday May 4, 2008 #

Cycle 1:45:00 [3]

Had to work this weekend. Took a rest on Saturday but on Sunday cycled in and out to the office by slightly circuitous routes. I'm getting too old for the size of the front chain rings on my road bike!

Friday May 2, 2008 #

Running hills 39:00 [3]

11-hills-of-Blackford run. Pushed on this one and a wee bit disappointed to be just under 39 min - hoping to go under 38. Still, can't complain after several consecutive days of training. Had a banana - just emulating Nixon.

Thursday May 1, 2008 #

Swimming 40:00 [3]

Relatively easy day. Walked to the pool via First Aid assessment, and walked back from the pool. Nice swim but busier than expected for middle of the morning.

Other warm up/down 1:10:00 [1]

To and from pool.
