Circuit training 50:00 [4]

Worked through initial stiffness and then wasn't too bad. Increased weights a bit this week. Hot and sweaty. Rest day tomorrow.

Not sure I'd call this training but it did require a bit of effort. Stob Dearg by North Buttress direct (scramble/v.diff), back down tourist track with a bit of scree running. No views with cloud down to 600m but v. nice to get back on the hills.

Tried out favourite run from KB - hill fartlek essentially. A bit down on normal times (38-39 min) but felt quite strong.

Steady ride round country roads and tracks around Penicuik. Felt fine. Just about recovered and getting back to regular training.

Brisk walks Thursday and Friday, 45 min each. First serious run today since RR, shuttle running in Lowry's Den woods - firm out, jog back. Felt pretty good.

Really sweaty evening in the gym. Took it easy again this time round, using light weights, but beasted the pressups and dips. Still some soreness in quads made me back off on telemarks and squats. I'm convinced it was the spacehopper thing on Saturday evening that went for the quads.

Recovering from RR at the weekend. Walk for 45min yesterday, 30min in the pool today. Feeling pretty good considering.

Cycle race (Edinburgh Rat Race) 8:26:00 [5]

Bit of running, bit of climbing and abseiling, bit of kayaking, bit of orienteering and a lot of cycling and sore muscles. Naomi aced on the cycle skills, Mark on the kayaking and climbing, and me the orienteering. Great team; great fun. 29th overall.

Mean Streets prologue. Naomi loved the BMX bikes, Mark was an awesome route-planner and I lost two eyebrows. 36th overnight.

Long loop round Abernethy Forest followed by short loop in Rothiemurchus. Nothing very technical, just a nice CC ride.

ROMP at Uath Lochans. A bit greener than I remember it but still a great area.

Another steady run on roads to toughen up the legs. Had planned something quite flat after circuits last night but ended up with some hills. Struggled round. Still working off the two days of sumptuous catering at the beginning of the week I suspect.

Red route at Glentress with Leon. Busy; wet. Took a nose dive off some wet roots but no major damage.

7 x 2min hill intervals around Blackford Hill plus to and from. New Asics Torana shoes felt fine.

Good circuits session. Felt a bit stiff to begin with from having upped training volume during the past week, but was able to push hard on the last circuit and in the ergo intervals.

Steady run round Braids and Blackford with a couple of pushes and stride outs. Beautiful sunny, breezy weather.
