Wednesday Dec 31, 2008 #

Running intervals 43:00 [4]

5 x 3min intervals up farm track in Lowry's Den woods, and jog to and from. Cold, dry and firm underfoot.

Sunday Dec 28, 2008 #

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Steady run round NW Oxford.

Tuesday Dec 23, 2008 #

Running 51:00 [3]

Three laps (firm-easy-firm) of Peace Mile at Cottesloe Park and jog to and from.

Sunday Dec 21, 2008 #

Running 1:40:00 [1]

Long, easy jog around Penicuik Estate and onto the Pentlands. Very windy and occasionally wet. Jog into wind = walk.

Saturday Dec 20, 2008 #

Running 33:00 [3]

Felt pretty heavy-legged today and probably need a rest.

Friday Dec 19, 2008 #

Gym stuff (Cycling; weights) 45:00 [3]

Gym stuff warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Thursday Dec 18, 2008 #

Running 25:00 [3]

Only time for a short run in Holyrood Park to loosen off from last night's circuits. Outside of L foot feels bruised but not a clue where it came from.

Wednesday Dec 17, 2008 #

Circuit training 45:00 [5]

Same format as last week and felt a little bit easier having had the experience. Tough, nevertheless.

Circuit training warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Tuesday Dec 16, 2008 #

Climbing (Bouldering) 55:00 [2]

Monday Dec 15, 2008 #

Running 47:00 [3]

Hilly route in Holyrood Park. Hard work coping with the wind higher up.

Sunday Dec 14, 2008 #

Cycle (MTB) 1:50:00 [3]

As it was ages since I'd been mountain biking decided to have an easy ride in Glentress round the Blue with a few loops onto Red. Just as well - ice and snow higher up made it quite tense in places.

Walking in terrain 2:00:00 [1]

Junior coaching at Riccarton campus. A bit of jogging, mainly walking

Friday Dec 12, 2008 #

Walking in terrain 2:00:00 [1]

Teaching orienteering to PGDE students in Holyrood Park. A bit of jogging, mainly walking.

Thursday Dec 11, 2008 #

Running 47:00 [3]

Easy-steady run in Holyrood Park with 5 x 75s pushes. Felt surprisingly energetic after yesterday's circuit, but I did keep off serious hills.

Wednesday Dec 10, 2008 #

Circuit training 45:00 [5]

For the last couple of weeks we have the "ultimate" curcuits format - too painful to recount. Has to be Intensity 5.

Circuit training warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Tuesday Dec 9, 2008 #

Walking in terrain 2:30:00 [2]

Course planning is a great way to clock up hours. Jogging and walking around Corstorphine Hill and Riccarton campus. Cold.

Monday Dec 8, 2008 #

Swimming 40:00 [3]

Sunday Dec 7, 2008 #

Running 53:00 [3]

Slow (on the icy stretches) to steady meandering run through Penicuik Est. and Lowry's Den woods.

Saturday Dec 6, 2008 #

Running race (Orienteering) 42:40 [5] *** 4.2 km (10:10 / km) +170m 8:27 / km
spiked:12/14c

Club Champs at Beecraigs. Beecraigs doesn't lend itself to great courses because the ubiquitous grot means lots of path running and not very challenging navigation. It needs some long legs to force route choice through the path network. Still, a nice little loop of five controls in the best bit. Took a little while to warm up but then ran strongly.

Friday Dec 5, 2008 #

Gym stuff 30:00 [2]

Very light session just to keep ticking over.

Thursday Dec 4, 2008 #

Running race (Orienteering) 1:00:00 [4] *** 5.0 km (12:00 / km) +150m 10:26 / km
spiked:21/25c

Final FWTN at Craiglockhart. Pretty good conditions considering the snow and ice of last few days. Hacked through the vegetation to #1 and thought that if all 25 controls are like this I'm here 'til midnight, but things improved dramatically and didn't lose much time after that, apart from on some roundabout route choices.

Wednesday Dec 3, 2008 #

Other (Walking in the snow) 1:30:00 [1]

Midlothian traffic still paralysed by snow and road closures so decided to walk into the outskirts of Edinburgh and bus from there. Sun was pleasant but the exhaust fumes from about a thousand vehicles just standing and idling were definitely not.

Circuit training 45:00 [4]

Lack of "edge" after the walk this morning

Circuit training warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Tuesday Dec 2, 2008 #

Climbing 1:20:00 [2]

University wall was quiet because of exams. Not a great performance - struggled at 6 - but enjoyable nevertheless.
