Running race (Oreinteering) 36:54 [5] 3.0 km (12:18 / km) +75m 10:56 / km

JOK Sprint Prologue, Holyrood Park; cold, dry, breezy. Got off to a great start, running and navigating well, then tripped and hit my head, lot of blood, and after that ran and navigated badly. Way down the field.

Running race (Orienteering) 26:19 [5] 2.7 km (9:45 / km) +95m 8:17 / km

Chase. Not feeling too bad considering, and ran and navigated quite well throughout, but started to cramp up a bit towards the end and then tripped again coming into the Finish trying to race someone else - quite bad toe stub. So, all in all, feeling a bit bashed and bruised. Haven't been feeling brilliant all week and all this tripping and cramping probably related.

Running 50:00 [3]

Easy-steady run in Holrood Park - a sort of figure of eight to get the distance. Cold wind. Felt okay, especially downhill, downwind! Otherwise, felt laboured.

Running 46:00 [3]

Still not 100% but tried some running. Basically a fartlek with some short, 45-60s, and long, 2m30s, pushes, quite hard work into the stiff breeze, and didn't feel too bad I suppose.

Gym stuff 50:00 [2]

Tried some easy stuff in the gym rather than go for a run, and didn't feel too bad. 5 min jog to gym, 30 min easy ergos, 15 min stretching, 5 min back

Tuesday Jan 26, 2010 #

Note

Not feeling great.

Circuit training warm up/down 20:00 [2]

1 PM

Circuit training 35:00 [4]

Felt fairly comfortable and was able to increase effort on the final circuit.

Running race (Orienteering) 19:19 [5] 2.7 km (7:09 / km) +80m 6:14 / km

ESOC Chasing Sprint at Kinneil Wood. Prologue. Happy with this run, probably less than 30s errors all told and maintained a good pace. Using the "without mistakes" option in WinSplits put me quite a bit further down the field, as usual.
1 PM

Running race (Orienteering) 18:45 [5] 2.7 km (6:57 / km) +60m 6:15 / km

Chase. Relatively speaking, didn't do so well here because it was basically a matter of following the person in front and it came down to running speed. Also, made a 15s error when I followed the person in front and ignored my compass!

Swimming 30:00 [3]

Fine until pool got busy, then it was all a bit stop-start.

Thursday Jan 21, 2010 #

1 PM

Running 1:06:00 [3]

Steady road run. Cold, stiff breeze from SE. Felt quite comfortable - none of the little niggles that often surface after about 40 min on the roads.

Circuit training warm up/down 20:00 [2]

5 PM

Circuit training 40:00 [4]

Very busy in the gym. Felt really lethargic when I arrived but in the end had a good session.

Tuesday Jan 19, 2010 #

5 PM

Climbing 45:00 [3]

Busy day and not much time left for play. Spent first 15 min in gym on the rower to "warm up", then went bouldering for half an hour.

Monday Jan 18, 2010 #

Circuit training warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Did plenty of this just to get moving.
1 PM

Circuit training 30:00 [4]

Good session. Felt tired and a bit stiff beforehand but fine once going.

12 PM

Cycle 40:00 [2]

Too good a day not to go out on the bike for a while. Did a few icy tracks around Penicuik pretty slowly.

Running race (Orienteering) 1:00:00 [4] 6.3 km (9:31 / km) +100m 8:49 / km

Walked to Bush Estate for the ESOC CATI, walked back again - about 4 hours altogether. Not a bad run I suppose: 1-2min error at #5 and real problems seeing the small red/white training kites in the green/white (snowy) terrain. But basically pretty heavy going underfoot.

Friday Jan 15, 2010 #

Running 45:00 [3]

Nice day, so out onto the Seat for some running around and up and down. Generally easy, especially where icy, but more effort up the hills.

Thursday Jan 14, 2010 #

Gym stuff 45:00 [3]

Warm up, 30 min hard cycling ("cross-country course"), warm down and stretches. Had planned a bit of boulderin' as well but got chatting and ran out of time - tomorrow perhaps if the weather isn't too good.

Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 #

2 PM

Swimming 25:00 [3]

Bit late to the pool, but probably just as well because it was really busy. Good lane with half a dozen of us all going steady.

Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 #

1 PM

Running 37:00 [3]

Jog into Holyrood Park, some fartlek where the paths weren't too bad, jog back. Felt pretty good.

Monday Jan 11, 2010 #

Circuit training 30:00 [3]

Really gentle start to the new semester, but the great thing about circuits is that you can make them as hard as you like, so I just took it easy.

Circuit training warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Sunday Jan 10, 2010 #

Running 47:00 [3]

Up to Lowry's Den woods, 5x2m30 reps along a track covered in nice hard-packed snow, back again.

Saturday Jan 9, 2010 #

Walking in terrain 1:30:00 [1]

Not terrain exactly but the snow-covered footpaths of suburban Edinburgh, needing a little effort. With the car still stuck in a snow drift in the drive, decided to bus-walk-bus to junior coaching in Currie.

Friday Jan 8, 2010 #

Gym stuff 45:00 [3]

More or less the same routine - rower, strength exercises, bike. Circuits start again next week.

Thursday Jan 7, 2010 #

Running 42:00 [3]

First run in Holyrood Park for two or three weeks and it really wasn't too bad underfoot, if fact better where normally muddy tracks were covered in hard-packed snow. Good, hilly run, but legs felt quite tired.

Wednesday Jan 6, 2010 #

Swimming 30:00 [3]

Tuesday Jan 5, 2010 #

Gym stuff 1:15:00 [3]

10 min warm up on rower, bit of stretching, 3 mini-circuits of S&C exercises, 20 min bike, stretching. Enjoyable session. CSE quite busy.

Monday Jan 4, 2010 #

Running 35:00 [3]

Big fall of snow yesterday - no end in sight. Jog up to woods, 4 x 3m30s hill pushes up farm track manicured to beautiful, flat, hard-packed snow by the farmer, jog back.

Saturday Jan 2, 2010 #

Running 1:30:00 [3]

ESOC New Year event cancelled. Set out for a longish run on the Pentlands but the snow showers came in thick and fast, so meandered through Rullion Green, Flotterstone and Castlelaw and back home via Glencorse. Slow going.
