Running 55:00 [3]

Out to Blackford Hill, circuit of the hill, back to Holyrood. Steady run.

Sunday Aug 29, 2010 #

1 PM

Running race (Orienteering) 39:35 [5] 6.0 km (6:36 / km)

ESOC ultrasprint in Holyrood Park. Great fun. Three courses, run consecutively, each with three maze sections and three parkland loops - 12:05, 13:32, 13:58.

12 PM

Running 38:00 [2]

Jog into and around Penicuik Est to try to solve the conundrum of where to put the start and finish of the event in November. Cloudy, breezy, getting cooler.

Running race (Orienteering) 52:48 [5] 5.4 km (9:47 / km) +145m 8:37 / km

Lakes 5, Day 5. Helsington Barrows. Limestone area with lots of scrub, some woodland and quite a bit of potentially ankle-breaking rubble underfoot. Several small mistakes but basically best run of the week. Felt good to be moving relatively quickly over the ground.

Running race (Orienteering) 1:08:16 [5] 5.3 km (12:53 / km) +230m 10:35 / km

Lakes 5 Day 4, Day 3 cancelled. Caw. Now, this is a nice area - open hillside with a lot of rock and contour detail - good map too. A cleverly planned leg from 7 to 8 caught me out (and several others), otherwise, a good run. Enjoyed this.

12 PM

Running race (Orienteering) 1:23:10 [5] 4.8 km (17:20 / km) +235m 13:55 / km

Lakes 5 Day 2. Quite rough woodland, and raining. After two disastrous legs to #1 and #2, ran quite well and pulled back some time as others made mistakes. Poor run, really.

Running race (Orienteering) 1:00:38 [5] 6.1 km (9:56 / km) +150m 8:51 / km

Lakes 5 Day 1, Swindale North. Open fell, runnable, a lot of rock not on the map. Moderately good run with one mistake overshooting #2 by 150-200m. Never felt very comfortable interpreting the map.

1 PM

Running 31:00 [3]

Easy run in Holyrood Park.

Wednesday Aug 18, 2010 #

6 PM

Running race (Orienteering) 44:12 [5] 4.1 km (10:47 / km)

Final INT Urban O on a new map of the Gyle. Brilliant area for urban, great course from Murray. Felt a little bit more energetic today, but still some PT legacy - aches in quads and itches from midge and tick bites. Couple of smallish mistakes, otherwise good run.

Gym stuff 40:00 [2]

Really easy session in the gym. Jog to CSE, warm up on rower, stretch for 20min, jog back.

Circuit training 35:00 [4]

Struggled round. Probably should have rested today.

Circuit training warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Running race (Orienteering) 1:47:30 [4] 6.1 km (17:37 / km) +330m 13:52 / km

Purple Thistle Day 2. A lot of folks thought that this was an easier day, but I didn't! I found the map difficult to read (one crag on the map, a dozen on the ground, sort of thing) and made numerous errors. My legs were begining to complain as well. Took the opportunity of a couple of relocations just to have a rest. Still, lovely weather and great views.

11 AM

Running race (Orienteering) 1:32:06 [4] 6.1 km (15:06 / km) +215m 12:50 / km

Purple Thistle Day 1 at Blamacara. We lucked out on the weather, sunny, warm. This was hard work in places, but no nav errors of note and legs didn't feel too bad. Happy.

Walking in terrain 6:00:00 [2]

En route to Purple Thistle, decided to go a day early and climb The Saddle via Forcan Ridge, an airy Grade 2 scramble. In the cloud most of the way, which made the rocks slippery and added a bit of excitement. Great fun, but quads really tired at the end.

Running 49:00 [3]

Lovely day. Went up to the farm track to do the 3 min hill reps I hadn't done for a long time - 3:11, 3:04, 3:01, 3:00, 2:56. Took a little while to remember how hard I could run them. Nice, long jog back. Pleased with this.

Saturday Aug 7, 2010 #

12 PM

Walk/run in terrain 1:55:00 [2]

More planning in Penicuik Est., and found the compass I lost three weeks ago - amazing.

Friday Aug 6, 2010 #

Swimming 30:00 [3]

Felt pretty good, steady and strong.

Thursday Aug 5, 2010 #

1 PM

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Great run over hills in Holyrood Park and on roads round about.

Wednesday Aug 4, 2010 #

6 PM

Running (Orienteering) 24:50 [4] 3.1 km (8:01 / km) +20m 7:46 / km

INT urban race at Liberton. Good, clean run. Felt a bit sluggish with the running but this probably helped the navigation and everything fell into place.

Circuit training warm up/down 20:00 [2]

7 PM

Running 45:00 [3]

This is the first time I've doubled up on training sessions for a while. ESOC Social run on some nice little exercises in Inverleith Park. Easy-steady running plus warm up/down. Day off tomorrow to compensate!

Cycle (MTB) 1:45:00 [3]

First time at Glentress for months. Stuck to the Blue, with a few diversions onto the Red. Went round Falla Brae twice to do both descents and the new section of the Blue. Have to say, the Blue is a fantastic route taken at speed - well done the trail builders.
