Running race (Orienteering) 1:27:45 [5] 5.8 km (15:08 / km) +190m 13:00 / km

BOC Individual at Thrunton Woods. Rough and tough, but happy with the result. The woods looked pretty uninviting on the long walk to the Start but once in them there was plenty to navigate by. Silly mistake at #9 where I must have passed within a couple of meters of the control before relocating, and a bit lucky with a couple of others when I wasn't quite sure where I was.

Up to Lowry's Den Woods, some hill loops and some wandering, back down. Probably intensity 2/3. Very wet. Wasn't going to run tonight to take care of injuries, but didn't feel much at all once I started, a few slight niggles towards the end. Should be okay for the weekend.

At Perth & Kinross schools orienteering final at Scone Palace. Stunning setting and beautiful weather; and over 300 kids having a great time. I had the job of walking round the course with P&K Dir. of Sports Development to persuade him to invest in orienteering, but with limited success.

ESOC training at Blackford Hill - relay training, nicely planned by IP. Just jogged/walked round to test R calf and it held up quite well. Optimistic for Scottish Champs at the weekend.

Thought I deserved a rest day yesterday, but did a lot of walk commuting to work and back.
Planned to do a very easy session in Holyrood Pk with some short pushes today, but R calf complained and gave up. Walk/jog back to base. Treat calf.

TAY SoSOL at Culteucher and Dron. Blue course to get in a longer run on the hills. Made a real mess of #8 amongst gorse bushes that were fairly well mapped but not really well mapped - lost 4 min. Otherwise good, steady run and not completely shattered at the end.

ESOC CATI at Hillend. 285m climb in 3.5km - Hillend lived up to its name. Some really good planning with a nav. test of some sort on nearly every leg - contouring, diagonal ups and downs, not overshooting going down hill, detailed interpretation of veg and/or contours. Great stuff, but pretty physical.

SOUL4 in Glasgow. New area, and what an area! Start/Finish in the very pleasant parkland of Glasgow Green, #1 across a pile of rubbish in a disused tennis court populated by a gang of abusive drunks, 1-2 navigated around the Barras market, 3-4 steering clear of another gang of drunks, although this time more encouragement than abuse, then a really nice technical section through Strathclyde Uni., but map difficult to read and probably not most efficient routes. After that it was a fairly straightforward run. Unfortunately, coming out of #10 and looking for the next alley I couldn't see it, so ran round the block to #11, losing a minute or so. Went back afterwards to find the alley - a door in a hoarding! Fortunately, managed to just stay in 2nd, 3min down on PS and 16s ahead of AL.

A sort of a fartlek run from home- St Kentigern-Lowry's Woods-PenicuikEst-Woods again-home. A lot of steady but some stride-outs, some hills, some easy, some in terrain. Breezy, damp, but good running.

Kendall Urban. Since this was meant to be a training session ran Blue rather than Green. Started off easy and was a bit rough through first few controls but then ran harder and was fine through the rest of the course. Kendall is a great place for urban - almost as good as Edinburgh.

Missed the Northern Champs at Blakehome but travelled down for the Kendall Urban tomorrow and had an easy run at Blakeholm in the evening, using an old map which was way, way out of date. But it's a great area of contrasting terrains.
