I helped out today at the Skyline Scramble; I was away from my apartment for about 5.5 hours, from 8 AM to 1:30 PM. The race went well, with 26 participants. I had planned to get some work done while I was available, but I made an unlikely friend instead - Alexei's daughter Victoria. Sara Mae told the story "Drake's Tail," and I discussed the mechanics of fractures, cloud formation, photosynthesis, and the game "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." Victoria estimated my age at 39 (and Brendan's at 19). One of the most amusing snippets of conversation we had:
Victoria: "Do you know the place with lots of blueberries and blackberries?"
Ian: "No. Is it in Russia or Boston?"
Victoria: "No, it's elsewhere... oh yeah, it's Norway."
Good times were had all around. I envied all the people jaunting about in running clothes.
