Orienteering race 1:17:00 [5] 5.6 mi (13:45 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Minimus Trail
Kind of a mediocre result. I could feel this week's blood donation in the first 2 minutes, and I discovered my minimal shoes can't handle wet clay slopes. I made things harder for myself by overrunning several controls - my route was over a mile longer than Glen's. But no back pain at all, and that's what counts.
Now that the results are in I see I was fastest on 5 controls, and had 4 bad controls adding up to 16 minutes lost:
#5, where I severely overran (I seem to always do this once). Positive note: there is a lot of park here that could be added to the map
#11, where I couldn't find a break in the dark green and went around the long way (I don't feel too bad about that one)
#15, a small pit that I know Gabor used previously. Had some trouble finding it but most of my time loss here might have been due to difficulties in traversing the ravines
#23, which again I overran. My route choice wasn't that good either, and I don't think the feature is well-mapped (earth bank continues below this point). And I was really tired at this point!
