Tuesday Sep 30

Running warm up/down 24:00 [3]
shoes: Asics somethings
Run from home to springvale road, wu loop, then long warm down after hills.
Took Barber road from lights->home quickly for shits and giggles
Running hills 19:00 [5]
shoes: Asics somethings
Pyramids on springvale. 15,30,45,60,90,60,45,30,15.
Did the first 2 too fast, so did sensible after then. Quads felt a bit knotted to start with, but soon battered them into submission.
Not bad I think considoring that I have never really done intervals/hills before due to not having the time last year...
Note
Good job I had a mahooosive lunch: 1 and a half BLTs, and a jacket spud with a shit loada beans and chese on it. Feltvery fat in labs, but worth it :D

Monday Sep 29

Running (lunch run) 39:00 [3] 7.4 km (5:16 / km) +126m 4:51 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics somethings
1st day of lectures.
I have 2 hours between lectures and lab session, and as can't do run after circuits due to being pressed for time by singsoc, want to get as many lunch runs in as possible.

Home>Bolehill Park >Walkley Cem >Rivelin to the millpond >up above long lane > Alotments >Stables > Crookes >Home via School Lane/Commonside

pushed fairly hard, felt good. Harder running on own than with a group!

Lunch Loop
Running warm up/down 25:00 [2]
shoes: Asics somethings
To goodwin, warm up around AR2, Back thru the park.
Circuits 30:00 [5]
shoes: Asics somethings
40-30 ShUOC circuits - very busy circuits. Put a lot of effort in, apart from Press-ups (liz was mocking me :( ) and Leg spread, which made my quads cramp :~s
full session with a lot of new faces. seems like the GIAGs worked :D
Streching warm up/down 5:00 [1]
Stretch down
Note
3 showers today - I'll be the cleanest boy in Sheffield. Unfortunatly, all my body's natural flora+fauna will be at the waste treatment works by now...

Sunday Sep 28

Running (Fresher's fell run) 20:00 [1]
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Fresher's fell run - very well attended. I took the beginners beginners out on a slow jog/walk. Went along the track then up and along the top of Burbage Rocks to Burbage Bridge, then back along the track. Out for a good 75 mins, with a (very)max 'running' of 20 mins. Good tough, nice day once the sun came out!
Running 45:00 [2] 6.05 km (7:26 / km) +195m 6:24 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Headed out on my own afterwards, from FH straight to Higger (via the lump in between - forgotten what it's called...) then down plummet, across the river, up to track then back. Felt really spent for very little apparant reason, and muscles seemed to stop working. boo. still, loverly to be out :D

Saturday Sep 27

Orienteering (/having woody fun!) 45:00 [2]
shoes: Asics somethings
GIAG - Wasn't needed for shadowing so headed out on my own.
Started off on the light green, was going ok (bit of faff at 2) then 11 threw me a fair bit due to a big bank next to the river that wasn't there (due to it being under 5m...) By then, some of my latter controls had been taken in, so spent time bombing around the forest dodging trees.
Orienteering 15:00 [0]
shoes: Asics somethings
Collecting in 7 controls that were of a very white standard. Walked around as had changed out of my running stuff. Straightlined it on the way back, pretty close to where I wanted to be at the end!

Great GIAG - plenty of interest. Tomorrow at Burbage for Fell Running is going to be EPIC!

Friday Sep 26

Note
Sports Fair - another 6 hours on the feet with little break.
Lots of people signed up, and a fair amount of foreign studes as well - we could be a Usport trend setter! Thought the stall position was crap, but when it turned out we were on a bottleneck, we got tonnes of people! Lots of talent on the other stalls as well ;P (every club has at least one slammin' hotty - apart from archery ;D - but trampolining/horses/hockey make up for that!) - though Zac wimped out of that, due to 'other reasons' (hehehehe)
Lots of banter, especially at High Gays/Walking Club/Athletics clubs
Give It A Go events this weekend should be really good! Should get lots of newbies involved in the sport.

Now when was the last time EUOC got a person who's never Orienteered before sign up??

(BOF flyers were worthless, as expected - they're pretty crap, we used a very small poster, but even my attempts beat that! - new ones are needed. One even has Gaz on it as a 14 year old. He's 21 now!)

Thursday Sep 25

Note
Finished work yesterday. wooo!
Activities fair today, plugging SingSoc. 6 hours on my feet with no stopping (except a visit to ShUOC in the park) and no toilet stop! Then off to the Uni Arms, then on to Dox for 6 hours after that. 10 pints, 1 pizza, and still pretty sober, good day!

Tuesday Sep 23

Biking 56:30 [3] 9.6 mi (5:52 / mi)
shoes: Claude Butler Trail Ridge(Bike
Out thru walkley to hilsboro' and then into Beeley, then a bit back between sessions, then back home, missing out walkley because of the insane hill, but still managing to find one almost as steep... Dave's bike was making some quality noises...
Running hills 11:00 [5]
shoes: Asics somethings
Short, Steep hill reps in Beeley. 10 of them. Felt great through all but the last 1!
Running hills 6:30 [4]
shoes: Asics somethings
Longer but less steep hills from near the 'carpark' 5 in all as we decided to not bother with any more, but felt good through all but the last 20metres, so :)
Note
Stood in dog poo at some point. nice...

Monday Sep 22

Running 39:00 [3] 7.75 km (5:02 / km) +92m 4:45 / km
shoes: Asics somethings
After a crazy busy day I had a lot of energy, so decided to go running with quick people. Felt good throughout - legs remembered how to run a bit as well! Got dropped down the road into crookes, then had to wait for traffic whilst the rest went on, but wasn't too fussed about that as legs sowed down a bit.

Sunday Sep 21

Note
Yeah, Stanage Strugle didn't happen after last night's exertions at Poptarts. Feel a bit rough...

Thursday Sep 18

Running 58:00 [3] 8.9 km (6:31 / km) +100m 6:10 / km
shoes: Asics somethings
Lucy's BDay run with Luce, Bridge, Zanthe and Franklin. Felt great aerobically, but my legs just aren't really moving atm.
From Fox House along Burbage south (with a bit of heather-faffing) to burbage bridge, up Higger, along to Mother Cap, down to Suprise View then into Padley Gorge. Down Padley (crossing and falling into the river, slick!) to the Cafe where Gaz and Ingrid were waiting, and had a Chip butty. Remember when Chip butties were too much for me, polished this one off easily, with room to spare! Would like to have had a go at the Yorky pud with chips, ham and gravy. Rhys was flagging towards the end of his.
Some NM chums came over, nice to see Jones again. Then went paddle in the gorge (rhys stepped in dogshit) before getting bus home.
Running warm up/down 12:00 [2] 2.63 km (4:34 / km) +20m 4:24 / km
shoes: Asics somethings
Run from home>Hunters bar to catch bus, went up Crookesmore road.

Wednesday Sep 17

Running 54:05 [3] 10 km (5:24 / km) +156m 5:01 / km
shoes: Asics somethings
Wanted to do a run, couldn't be bothered with getting into Rivelin, so decided to do the 7 (William) Hills race, scout out a few route choices and what not :p Forgot that there's a fair amount of luck in road crossings when racing around Sheffield Streets!
Felt OK. Not great, so I stopped to walk a little bit about 3 times, but mainly because, once stopped due to traffic lights etc, legs found it very hard to get going again. Legs were pretty slow throughout though really.
about 7 mins off my previous time, but that was a bit longer and I didn't really know the way and missed a william hill.

The 7 (William) Hills

Tuesday Sep 16

Running 25:30 [2] 4.4 km (5:48 / km) +92m 5:15 / km
shoes: Asics somethings
Run to the post office in Tapton Hill Road to collect BOF flyers. ONce again the envelope was ruined, and the flyers are still the same.
Up Lydgate, back through broomhill. Slow on the wayt back due to big heavy package... and I'm not just talking about the flyers :p

Sunday Sep 14

Note
Driving back via home for curry.
Sister managed to spend 1 hour getting lost in Ranmoor instead of going home. slick.

Cracking week, loved it, just need to get running speed going again now and concentrate more when reading maps.

Finished on a high - JT tagged me into the champs food race as he couldn't face his plum tomatos. I ate so quick that Hartman only beat me with his Tuna as he started way before (Having been tagged in by Andy) - the scenes were reminicent of Ragu-man last year...

Saturday Sep 13

Orienteering (Anagach) 35:00 [1] 3 km (11:40 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Line Course. just walked it, prob. took longer, but meh.
Orienteering race (Tour Champs!) 35:00 [3] *** 3 km (11:40 / km)
spiked:3/10c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Yeah... bit of a cock-up fest going on here!
Missed 1, 120degree error to 2 (don't ask!), only saw 4 because Browny was stood at it, trogged across the swamp to 7 where Dave was collecting the control. Then I actually pulled my finger out and did some running :p
Swimming 30:00 [1]
fannying about in pool.

Friday Sep 12

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Warm up and down, and also staging publicity shots for ShUOC!
Orienteering (Roseisle) 1:38:00 [3] 7.6 km (12:54 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
ooo, loverly!.
head-head race, everyone having different courses - though mine was very similar to Lucy's. Still not feeling too great, though mostly recovered from illness/pizza the previous day, so didn't push at all.
Found the centre of the frst butterfly despite Dave hanging it int he wrong place (tut!), and apart from one control in dense new spruce growth I couldn't be arsed with, and one I decided to skip as my relocating wasn't working, Found the rest OK (including another site with no kite in view... knew I was right though!)
Was slow, but much enjoyable.

Thursday Sep 11

Biking ("Rest Day" haha) 2:11:00 [3] 26.2 mi (4:59 / mi) +20m 3:06 / km
shoes: Claude Butler Trail Ridge(Bike
Didn't fancy Contour-only on Inshriac (as I'm sane!) so me and faz went on a nice bikeride. Did part of national cycle route 7 - a figure8 with Aviemore at the bottom, Carrbridge at top and Boat of Garten in the middle. Some loverly tracks! Avie->Boat was a nice rolling off road trip, Boat->Carr was a nice quick road. Carr-> Boat was an inclined off-road track, (but hit 30 on the road at the end... and 27 none-handed on a downhil bit of track!), and Boat->Avie was a slow road.
Very nice, but I'd managed to get ill on the way back from Achlean. Felt better that yesterday afternoon, but still not good.

to think that this was marathon distance at the rate the elites run them... and we were on bikes and had rests! (not timed) Insane, I can't even think of running 500m that fast!
Swimming 30:00 [1]
fannying about in the pool, and a bit of aquayogging as well
Swimming 30:00 [1]
Same as before after bike ride, but also including a bit of waterpolovolleyball.

Wednesday Sep 10

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]
Orienteering (Aclean) 45:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Managed to get lost twice on the way... so wasn't anticipating a good day. It wasn't. There were rides and extraction lines everywhere but on the map - which lead to me not finnding 1 or 5. Fannyed about on 2 for a while, but 3 and 4 were good at least! Knee started hurting, so once I hadn't found 5 I decided to head home.

Tuesday Sep 9

Orienteering (Alvie!) 1:15:00 [4] *** 6.5 km (11:32 / km) +340m 9:09 / km
spiked:9/10c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Loverly course on Alvie. Made a small mistake at 1 - was looking on the wrong lump for about 30 seconds, but after that was good through the rest - bit iffy at 4 but found it easy after a slight hesitation. Line Course from 7-8 took a lot of time, but I managed to stick with Lucy (didn't follow her mind!) then the long slog from the gate to 8 was taken slowly. Slowed down from 8-finish apart from downhill on the heather, but still very pleased with the day :)
Running (HASH) 45:00 [2] 6 km (7:30 / km) +200m 6:26 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Hash organised by captain. Good fun, but I was a bit knackered so took it easy.
Running warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'

Monday Sep 8

Running warm up/down 30:00 [2] 2.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Warm up while some controls were hung, thenrunning back along the road from my 2nd last control as was blergh after fannying about
Orienteering (Loch Vaa) 45:00 [3] 3.7 km (12:10 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
~5km course around Loch Vaa. Hit control 1 well, but then convinced myself that it wasn't number one, but I reassured myself by finding it from a different direction... Found 2 controls near 3, then eventually 3, then cocked it up royally on 4 and 5. Relocated (courtesy of Rach) near 6, so then did 6-7-5-4-8-9-10 fairly well before heading home - missing the last control and long leg due to too much faffing.
Cocking about 15:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
penising around controls 4+5... or more like near 6, but whilst looking for 3+4
Orienteering 10:00 [3] 1 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O'
Collecting a few controls in running against Fazza. Once again, navigation let me down, but at least I ended up in the right place without spending ages faffing!
Biking 1:22:00 [2] 16.4 mi (4:59 / mi)
shoes: Claude Butler Trail Ridge(Bike
Fancied a pootle ont bikes so Danger tagged along on Faz's. Past Inshriac and Feshibridge before heading back up the B-road into Aviemore. Pretty slow as was pooped. Dave wasn't...

Sunday Sep 7

Event: ShUOC Training Week

Note
WOOP! AVIEMORE!
Note
Driving up to Aviemore. About 7.5 hours in all, beat the SatNav by 20mins from what it said in Hamilton.
Running 30:00 [2]
shoes: Asics somethings
A bit of a loosener on terrain around inverdruie. Hard work after no running and lots of sitting in the car.

Saturday Sep 6

Running 3:00 [1]
OK, not training, but had a bit of a jog on the way to the station. Knee was normal!!

Wednesday Sep 3

Note
(injured)
quicker and further walking today, knee fine. good. Got a haircut so it doesn't get in my way next week. Not that I'll be moving quick enough for it to do that anyway.

Tuesday Sep 2

Note
(injured)
knee feeling much better, first day I've had walking around without noticing it. Hopefully should be good-ish for aviemore!
