Monday Mar 31

Skiing 3:00:00 [3]
snowed all day. Got wet gloves. As they were thin, got really cold hands. masses of powder, just couldn't see it...

Sunday Mar 30

Skiing 3:00:00 [2]
Skiing Holiday! in Serre Chevalier. Spent a good 6/7 hours out each day, of which about 3 hours was skiing - the rest being sat on slooow chair lifts, or in mountain resteraunts. Fantastic resort for runs - lift system needs a bit of work though. Was empty pretty much all week! and powder on the tuesday!

Saturday Mar 29

Note
Going Skiing in France for a week. Yessah! Then, staright back to Sheffield and SingSoc rehersals, so could be absent from circuits for a couple of weeks after term starts again.

Thursday Mar 27

Running (Pennine Training) 1:19:00 [4] 6.0 mi (13:10 / mi) +261m 7:12 / km
slept:9.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Training with Pennine. First time running by torchlight, which was odd - meant I slowed down a fair bit on the downhilly bits. To the Dragon's back via Christine's gate, then along to mt famine and south head. Down Dimper's clough and up the otherside of the valley, back through the fields down tunstead (bloody slippy considoring my trail shoes) then back down and along kinder road/along the river Sett to the Royal. Decided to run the forst 3 bits fairly hard, but lack of food and general illness made me slow down for the rest, before pasting it down kinder road, forgetting the long flat bit along the river at the end which went OK considoring.
Note
Pub with Fluce, Shaunus and AliB afterwards, meant pints offered and recieved :D Good to catch up, although me and fluce did bore Shaunus with our Uni talk as the evening wore on (AliB left to met the Enemy... despite needing to get up at 2.30 to drive to work. And he said I was mad for running in the freezing cold!!) Anyway, felt OK with the run. Tiredness meant I couldn't keep it up all the way, though I felt that, given me feeling good, I'd be able to faily easily...
C • which means... 1

Wednesday Mar 26

Note
slept:9.0 (rest day)
OK, so maybe I should have done something, but I was knackered when I woke up and decided I'd slob around. Also, my shoes are STILL damp from monday soI'll let them air a bit... Managed to get a good bit of essay done, before writing a ShUOC report on the JK (got so into it I forgot to eat lunch!) and general eating chocolate/watching scrubs. Other than that, I'm loving the picture of me on the JK sprints, even if I do look like I'm about to sneeze...
might leave the house later, just to say I have today (even if all I do is go to get wood...) and watch the Apprentice.

Tuesday Mar 25

Note
slept:10.0 (rest day)
Bumming around Sheffield before getting a lift back.

Really enjoyed the JK, can't wait til the next O event I can get to - with a bit more technical nouse I reckon I can run longer courses without the fear of being out there at night-fall! Just by concentrating this weekend, I managed to considerably better my performance at BUSA!
C • Nicely 1

Monday Mar 24

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2]
slept:8.5 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Orienteering race (JK Relays - Eridge Park) 1:06:08 [3] *** 4.1 km (16:08 / km) +150m 13:38 / km
spiked:12/12c shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
By the time I took over from Mummy F-R, The round was covered in snow and I was just glad to get moving to keep warm! Wasn't in a great mindset as I entered the waiting pen too early so got bored. Running OK, but a far from clean run - especially control 6 which took 21 minutes. (also miss-read my codes, so spent a bit of time running around a control I thought I didn't need, when that was my control... not clever). Wasn't too keen with the map or the area for that matter. After that, took every leg safe, working from paths and fences when in the woods. Finished with a 'somersault' (if it can be called that) over the line as ShUOC Rambo 1, 2 & 3 were presented with their men's short winners' medals. Personally, an iffy finish to a fantastic weekend!

Sunday Mar 23

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 0.6 km (16:40 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Run to start in melting snow - got some nice snowey pictures when I went down earlier though.
Orienteering race (JK Day 3 - Ashdown Forest) 1:08:59 [4] *** 6.6 km (10:27 / km) +270m 8:41 / km
spiked:15/15c shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
It had stopped snowing by the time I started, and I warmed up pretty quickly on the way to number 1. Overshot it by a bit, but as all the flags were fairly easy to spot it didn't matter too much. Was running and navigating well (the change in scale from the day before once again took a bit of getting used to) until a small faff on 10 lost me a minute, then a massive error on 11 -seeing a control I went to it. It wasn't mine, but I re-positioned myself on the map 50yrds further east than I actually was, resulting in my running 300m or so into out-of-bound and back when I was virtually stood on top of my control. D'oh! Lost me a good 6 minutes or so! Regrouped for the last 3 controls, but the run-in was bloody slippy and knackering!
Without the major faff I would have been bloody close to Faz, and made the top 5 on the M20 short overall!

Saturday Mar 22

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 1.8 km (8:20 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
jog/walk to mid start
Orienteering race (JK Day 2 - Leith Hill) 1:15:05 [4] *** 6.4 km (11:44 / km) +180m 10:17 / km
spiked:18/18c shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
probably only my second wooded O event, so was fairly rusty when it came to the technical aspects. Felt I was running well, and some navigation was OK, but 4 minutes on control one sort of set the trend - technically, I got to the control circle, then ran like a headless chicken in any direction, with seldom thought about where the control may have been! No massive errors, but muchos little ones! Some iffy route choice as well. The size of the 'little' paths didn't really help matters either, but no 10+ minute legs, and a strong 51sec finish as I was feeling good :D
Liked the area, but took a bit of time getting used to the scale of the map after the previous day.

Friday Mar 21

Event: JK 2008

Streching warm up/down 5:00 [1]
slept:7.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Pootling around the assembly field before/after run, stopping off at spectator control every now and then for banter
Orienteering race (JK Sprint Course10 (open)) 21:43 [4] *** 2.6 km (8:21 / km) +60m 7:29 / km
spiked:19/19c shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
University of Surrey, Guilford.
Good start to the weekend, beating faz :D
Pretty clean run, save a fairley major mistake on the way to control 1, following slightly past the control on 15, and the same error everyone seemed to make on number 16 - what with map and control descriptions seemingly contradicting eac other. Control descriptions were right. poo!
Good day though - glad we just missed the hail.

Tuesday Mar 18

Streching warm up/down 5:00 [1]
slept:8.0
Still feel very stiff :-(

Monday Mar 17

Note
slept:9.5 (rest day)
Absolutly shattered after the weekend, so a day of lying around at home and waching scrubs. Felt a bit tight, so went for a walk around town. God it's a dump!

Sunday Mar 16

Orienteering race (BUSA Relays) 1:38:00 [4] *** 7 km (14:00 / km)
spiked:31/31c slept:4.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT

Saturday Mar 15

Event: BUSA

Note
slept:6.5
'tis a bit misty in Sheffield at the moment. Lets hope stanton moor is a bit clearer, or I may be out for a veeeeeeeery long time... :p
Orienteering race (BUSA individaul A) 2:30:34 [4] *** 9.3 km (16:11 / km) +425m 13:11 / km
spiked:34/34c slept:6.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Up on Stanton Moor. Knew that this would be tough. Oh well, may have taken an absolute age, but got knackered very easily. Just wanted to finish it and not make loads of mistakes, so I sort of did that. Maybe B would have been a netter option, but I enjoyed it anyway! Like to call it a good long training session!
Time for a bit of social etc. I'm gonna be dead tomorrow!
Running warm up/down 10:00 [1]
shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
bit of a warm up/down

Friday Mar 14

Note
slept:6.5 (rest day)
Friday, so thought I'd put my feet up and not leave myself tired tomorrow morning. Met Danger, fluceluce, faz and A4, so went to the Dox for a not-so-quick pint before heading home and staying up until 1.45 watching scrubs (y)

Thursday Mar 13

Note
slept:7.0 (rest day)
Recovering from a case of the Corp-head.
Left earlyish for some reason, ate 2 takeaways on the way home, and climbed traffic lights. Still remember very little though. Exam tomorrow, so I'm sitting at home not revising. I'll watch scrubs a bit later... when the Internet works fast enough so I can.
After yesterday's navigational debacle, BUSA could be very fun... I'll just go out and try and enjoy it.. and not make many absolute howlers... At least my start time has been moved 2 1/2 hours forward!

Wednesday Mar 12

Cocking about (Loxley) 1:00:00 [1]
slept:8.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Had an absolut mare, no poin in even calling it orienteering. Hope Stanton Moor isn't going to be that bad! I've got plenty time though :D

Tuesday Mar 11

Running (road and trail run) 37:00 [3] 4.64 mi (7:57 / mi) +94m 4:40 / km
slept:8.5 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Fulwood Circle - up to fulwood, back through the parks. Took it fairy steady (slower than last time) but felt good, and could inject some pace if I needed!
Despite getting a fair amount of sleep recently, I stil feel tired. It may be staying up late and waking late. But what's the point in late lectures if you can't sleep in!? Also, I need to be up late if I want to watch scrubs online
Note
Just noticed that I'm starting 2nd last on the A course at BUSA.
I hope that everyone doesn't mind waiting an age for me to finish! As long as I can make it home before No.1 Buffet, I'll be grand!
canny bloody wait for BUSA :D
Streching warm up/down 5:00 [3]

Sunday Mar 9

Note
slept:9.0
Spent last night at home, as couldn't be arsed trecking up to the lakes for a day, so had a good night's sleep on a nice comfy matress with a nice comfy duvet, with a cooked breakfast for brunch, before driving back to Sheffield in the afternoon. Was going to go for a run (maybe), but it started raining on and off once I got back from the Supermarket, so watched (i.e. fell asleep in front of) the footy/rugby.

Came second in the Edge Pub Quiz, went for the 'Mystery Box' as our prize - and what a prize! Aftershock High viz jackets, Sourz hats, goggle-straws, sftershock shot-glass-attached-to-a-rubber-glove, cards, great stuff! If I can't be arsed with getting police gear for the BUSA social, I'm sorted!

Saturday Mar 8

Orienteering race (UMOC Chasing Sprint) 14:32 [3] * 3 km (4:51 / km) +10m 4:46 / km
spiked:17/17c slept:5.5 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
UMOC Chasing Sprint Prologue in Platt Fields. Good race, and I managed to spike number 7 first time and all, unlike some :p. Bruised by thigh climbing over the same fence for the 3rd time in 1min. Most enjoyable.
Orienteering race (UMOC Chasing Sprint) 18:22 [3] * 3 km (6:07 / km) +10m 6:01 / km
spiked:22/22c shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Chase of the Chasing sprint around the fallowfield campus. I think the sight of tons of sweaty, slightly damp people running around at 1 in the afternoon confused the students, who had just woken up by the looks of things ("ooo look, it beeps!" was heard as I spiked control 2) Overtook a few people on the chase to finish somewhere in the top 20... Small scale of map along with my inability to read maps whiost running meant that some navigation was "it's in that direction, and someone's going there, so I'm ok!" althought, as with many other people, that failed me en route to number 5 :p bloody fences. All in all, a good event! Shame it appears UMOC may not exist next year :(

finishe 17th in prologue, and 15th overall
C • why? 4
Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
Running with ShUOC to Platt fields, and a bit of a walm up before the chase avec Danger

Thursday Mar 6

Note
slept:7.0 (rest day)
Lecture today was cancelled, so I had until 2 to recover from last night.
Got woken by the doorbell at 10, after 5 hours of sleep. I didn't get up, but I thought we were getting our oven re-inspected. Thankfully not, as we hadn't cleaned it - we just get a new fridge and freezer tomorrow!
The oven is now clean after I spent an hour doing it.
Came back from SingSoc to find that it has had crap spilled on it, and that things still aren't getting washed up...

Wednesday Mar 5

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2]
slept:7.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
bit of bummbling through mud and heather
Orienteering (Burbage) 1:10:30 [3] ** 6.4 km (11:01 / km)
spiked:13/14c shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
OK, not a great run, spent a lot of time in marhes so slowed down a bit, but felt good pootling along, getting to the controls and working on technical skills. Missed number 7 off after looking for it for bloody ages. Otherwise, looking back, felt that 10 of the 14 legs I planned fairly well and executed OK. Enjoyed it anyway :D
Note
off to corp tonight (no kiss make-up this time...), suprised I can still put a tie on! It's about 3 years since I did with a white shirt!

Tuesday Mar 4

Note
slept:7.5 (rest day)
Thought I'd give my body a bit of a rest as have been feeling a bit tired and waking up feeling odd. However, at least I got good news back regarding the January exams. Passed them all quite comfortably. Not spectacularly, but it's only first year, so I'm not too fussed.
Managed to fail the house inspection purely because a bit of the oven wasn't too clean. honestly. All they needed to do was tell me and I'd sort it. Most of the stuff is baked on from years of studentdom anyway!
C • Ha! you should see our oven... 2

Run from home to Hunters bar roundabout and back.
Running 55:40 [4] 6.71 mi (8:17 / mi) +218m 4:41 / km
shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
ShUOC fell race route up through the parks to the peaks (Fulwood Lane) Felt alright. Had a few short rests, but not many long ones (tightening shoes, one at the top, that kinda jaazz) 34mins to the top, passing Dr. Gilmour and far too many bikes for footpaths on the way back. Also worked out a few 'detours' that I feel may make it quicker for the next time we race it xD. (climb and distance from mapmyrun...)
Streching warm up/down 11:00 [2]
Stretch down to Streetlight

Saturday Mar 1

Orienteering (Norweigan/Map memory) 41:00 [2] ** 3 km (13:40 / km)
spiked:8/8c slept:6.5 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT
SYO Rivlin event. Small but good piece of woodland. A map-memory course, though I did take the map with me for when I got lost. Which was fairly often (e.g. choosing the wrong wall to follow and ending up up to my knees in mud/bramble bashing up a steep hill to pretty much nowhere.) Route choice was shoddy, and overall I was pretty crap, but really enjoyed it. debating going to Crich tomorrow. Depends on whether my shoes dry off :p
Running warm up/down 5:00 [1]
Streching warm up/down 6:00 [2]
slept:2.0
just had a nice nap and all :)
