| (rest day) | ||
| Shittest day ever? Started OK, then absolute bitch of an 'exam' (supposedly 25% of the module!!!) - They should stop trying to think up new ways to loose us marks and generally piss us off, or they'll soon have a revolt on their hands.
Could really have done with Intervals to burn off some pent-up anger, but hey-ho, can't go. boo. Mozart's Requiem cheered me up a bit, tis sounding good, should be a good concert. roll on Leeds :D
Wednesday Oct 29 | ||
| Running warm up/down 40:00 [2] 7 km (5:43 / km) +100m 5:20 / km | ||
| shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| Run to Endcliffe perkwith Dave, Gaz Charli & J, strode out a bit at times. Then to bingham, warm up up the hill. Then back with Craig and J. Stopped at Craig's too see the old housemates, then sharpish back home as hills had given me the trots... 15 to endcliffe, 18 back. estimate the rest | ||
| Running hills 30:00 [5] 4.48 km (6:42 / km) +296m 5:02 / km | ||
| shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O' | ||
| 8 reps of about 2 mins (just under) of effort in bingham. 80%(ish) long, active not-so-much-recovery, then sprint short followed by ~min of active recovery. Nailed a few of the reps and a few of the sprints, otherwise just put a lot of effort in without transfering some of the speed to the leggies, or am I talking bullshit? Probably. Still great session - I'l feel that tomorrow. Wouldn't want to do intervals on top of that!
off to the IC now to print a load of posters. woop!
| Note | ||
| would like to know how much I weigh at the moment. Get the feeling it's not much, seeing as I've started taking my trousers off without the need to undo the button on them. And in public and all!
V much looking forward to Leeds on Saturday. I'm hoping to kill it.
| C • me too. want to know if I'v... 1 | ||

| Ash was a bit worried about looking silly i Leeds next weekend, and as I was going to do a bit of streetO to get a bit of leg/mind speed going, invited him to come along so he'd have a vague idea of what he'd be doing. Did a GIAG-y route from last year from Ponderosa and around Walkly that I think Faz planned, just as a slow course to get him mor eused to runin, map readin and making decisions. From 12-18 made him direct me just so I could have an idea of what he was thinking, and he did pretty well relating the map to what was in front of him. Fairly steady pace so he could concentrateon the map.
OK, I may be no 'coach' compared to say Dave, but I wanted to give it a bit of a whirl...
| Running 29:10 [3] 6.4 km (4:33 / km) +125m 4:09 / km | ||
| shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| Road run to get some speed into legs? Thru weston, then behind union then along clarkhouse/brocco bank, thru endcliffe park before cutting up Riverdale Road, up to Ranmoor (where they appear to be constructing flimsy looking flat-pack student houseing...) Then up Tapton Crescent road, along to Crookes, before opening my legs (and showing my class :p) down Schhol Road/Commonside.
rested at a few points. Everyone from ShUOC doing the OMM appears to have been acounted for.
Saturday Oct 25 | ||
| Biking (windy) 1:06:00 [2] 12.4 mi (5:18 / mi) | ||
| slept:8.0 shoes: Claude Butler Trail Ridge(Bike | ||
| fair pootle avec faz, up the porter valley bridleways (saw craig and Beasant) was going to head further but wind/work made us head back down ringinglow. Still paradoid about my front wheel parting company from my bike. Hit 31mph on the way down. | ||
| Note | ||
| Definitely think I made the right decision in staying in Sheffield to go to gigs instead of doing the OMM when Neill asked me if I fancied replacing Gaz on Thursday... | ||
Thursday Oct 23 | ||
| Note | ||
| hehe, Assassins Duel at midnight in the IC last night. As I'm now out of the game it was just a chance for me to get points. After a lot of skipping around, and nearly getting shot in the lift, I poison-darted my prey whilst he ascended the stairs, looking in the opposite direction. | ||
Wednesday Oct 22 | ||
| Note | ||
| Frank Turner in Leeds last night was awesome. I'm now out of the Assassins game :( Am going to take about a week off training to try and feel awake more! | ||
Monday Oct 20 | ||

| Note | ||
| last night's 'get a lot of rest' resulted in going out drinking. Gah. So spent the whole day infront of the TV. Daer god I feel dirty... :s | ||

| Ride out to Grave Park for SYO local event and then back. Bloody Hell Eccy road was busy, got off and pushed up the pavement at points as there was nay room, and I'm not a militant cyclist yet (I like my life with legs...) Found the most awesome hillreps hill, but it's right by graves park. But riding it was a bitch! Nice and quick for most of the way home - max speed 29.3mph. Distance from speedo, includes climb.
Also, is it in the highwaycode that you can park on cycleways? If it is, I won't moan.
| Orienteering (Graves Park) 36:07 [3] *** 4.4 km (8:12 / km) +200m 6:41 / km | ||
| spiked:14/17c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O' | ||
| A fair beginners area, would have been good to get some newbies out in a wooded area mapped well! Did the Green, good fun!
The plan today was to just slow down, keep in contact with the map and not get in a boo, and I managed all 3! Cocked up a bit at 2(wrong path junction), 12(ran across openland without thinking which direction I actually needed to go in, so ended up too far south) and 16 (thought I was being clever by going downhill. Wasn't being clever, had to contour around on bitch of a slope) Controls at 8 and 16 were missing, but knew I was in the right place (aided by many others scratching their heads) there as well. Wasn't running great (bike/general tiredness contributions?) but pleased with my attempt overall.
| Note | ||
| Thought sleep and bombing around a park today would relieve me of my bad mood, but it's still in evidence. I'll be a joy at tonight's festivities for them lot from home... | ||
Friday Oct 17 | ||
| Swimming 30:00 [3] 1.1 km (27:16 / km) | ||
| slept:5.5 | ||
| Just didn't want to go to bed last night, even though was knackered, and when I did I couldn't get to sleep, so spent much of the day in a bit of a daze!
headed to Goodwin where I was joined by el Capitan. Did 33 lengths, was focusing on long strong strokes today (only breaststroke, I don't like crawl too much) As had someone to talk to I kept stopping to talk, so spent about an hour in the pool, I was all wrinkly by the end of it!
Thursday Oct 16 | ||
| Note | ||
| slept:9.5 (rest day) | ||
| hehe, pub golf last night, I was on my game until I got in a boo at interval (was it because I was talking to Rhys?...! hehe) and decided to sip my wine. Other than that, I know I can nail a perfect round easy. next time, next time...

| Event: ShUOC Championship: Event1: Crookes/Walkley StreetO | ||
| Orienteering race (ShUOC Street SprintO) 20:27 [4] * 2.7 km (7:34 / km) +80m 6:36 / km | ||
| spiked:8/11c slept:6.0 shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| Walkley Urban SprintO planned by el coachio.
Set off 30secs after LauraD, and after catching her at 1 we raced together until the end pretty much. few seconds lost at 5 (was at top of bank, control at bottom) a couple circling a wall at 8, and about 20 going down a dead end to 10, then another 15 standing on the wrong side of the bush for the control. oops... Then at 11 was convinced the control wasn't where I was, so decided to go check a bit of map detail, loosing about 20 secs. Pleased with the run, but should have easily been under 20mins. That said, I knew the area, and some of my route choices were affected by the fact I've run around here a fair bit in the past...
Tuesday Oct 14 | ||
| Running warm up/down 18:30 [2] 3.1 km (5:58 / km) +64m 5:25 / km | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| From home towards walkley and down to the hill for tonight, then back home via infirmary road. Despite putting a lot of effort into the hillreps, still had enough to push up some hillon the way home... | ||
| Running hills (Long reps) 12:00 [5] 2.25 km (5:20 / km) +240m 3:29 / km | ||
| shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| Long reps on (what I think was) Burgoyne road in Walkley. 2mins each, 6 in total. on measuring each rep looks like about 500m with about 25m climb (mmr says 93, which can't be right!)
Felt I put in a pretty good attempt. As usual was mid-field, put pushed a bit harder at times. Managed to reach my 'minimum target' on each rep, even on one when I had to stop to let a car turn into a road. Really good session, can feel the benifit already?
| Running warm up/down ('active recovery') 17:00 [2] 2.25 km (7:33 / km) | ||
| shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| jogging down hill between reps, bit of a pause at the bottom whilst others got down. | ||
Monday Oct 13 | ||
| Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] | ||
| shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| Warm up shuttles and Warm down at goodwin, then run home.
Left labs just before 5, but only missed a bit of running round in circles.
| Circuits 36:00 [4] | ||
| slept:6.5 shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| 40-20 ShUOC circuits. Dave, faz and I led the music as there wasn't a cd, needless to say everyone enjoyed the session because of that :p
Good session full of banter. replaced leg spreads (as they kill my thighs) with a 2nd set of back stretches.
| Streching warm up/down 5:00 [1] | ||
| Note | ||
| 25% of MBB202 has been completed today, yessum! 45 minute essay (previously these have equalled only 3%!), nice and easy, new all my stuff and managed to get it on the page. sweet! | ||
Sunday Oct 12 | ||
| Running 1:04:00 [3] 11 km (5:49 / km) +260m 5:12 / km | ||
| slept:8.0 shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT | ||
| Spent yesterday shopping and cleaning instead of working, then watched 3 hours of phoenix nights whilst eating Ban and Jerry's, so a run was in order, and JT provided lifts, so headed out to Surprise View.
"Gazelle" Abrams and I went on a fairly steady run, but I was knacked for no apparent reason. Surprise View>Over Owler Tor>Higger Tor>Stanage Trig>Long Causeway>Stanage Pole>back to stanage edge (over the boggiest thing I've run on in a while (not as deep/vicious as the bog monster, but there was no dry ground at all!)>Stanage trig>Higger>MotherCap=>Carpark. Lovely day, but another shiny white pair of socks fucked. :D distance from OS map.
Saturday Oct 11 | ||

| Boosh last night, brilliant! Don't think I stopped laughing at all. Well, maybe for the crackfox, but that was just a man in a bin. The pillorying of the Sugarpuffs monster was fantastic. Wil decided we were all going to drink Rose wine, so we did... then went to DevCat :D
Anyway, day of working/slobbing. Just had a massive shopping excursion to Asda avec Liz and Neill. We somehow managed to fit £270s worth of shopping into her ickle micra. And now have a new toaster. And won't need to shop until about Christmas.
Friday Oct 10 | ||
| Running 40:00 [2] 7.4 km (5:24 / km) +126m 4:59 / km | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| felt pretty tired all day, and I fell asleep in my first lecture of the year. (granted it was ford; he's more interesting this year, but you just have to really!)
Did the rivelling loop avec faz, fairly steady, but I decided to push a bit up some of the hills and wait at the top. Felt quite quick when I did that. Still feeling the last week a bit though (more monday night than saturday possibly?!)
Wednesday Oct 8 | ||
| Running 44:00 [2] 7.4 km (5:57 / km) +126m 5:29 / km | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| Lunch loop thru rivelin. Headed up springvale to Bolehill, but CBA remeasuring it...
ooo my legs felt heavy. | ||

| Before and After
Due to freshers not drinking enough at the meal last night, I saw fit to do their drinking for them. Hence the reason I'm now suffering from amnesia and missed my lectures today. Still, it was a cracking social, and now roll on pub golf!
| Running hills 22:00 [4] | ||
| shoes: Asics somethings | ||
| Hills session, was tough. | ||
Monday Oct 6 | ||
| Note | ||
| slept:7.5 (sick) | ||
| Man-cold diminished last night, and I felt vaguly human today. Still feel weak and filthy though, so giving circuits a miss. I don't want to ruin myself for the fresher's meal now do I?! Think I'll take it easy tonight though (been really tired lately) but once I have a bottle of wine in me, who knows? | ||
Sunday Oct 5 | ||
| Note | ||
| slept:9.0 (sick) | ||
| Developed a cold last night, that developed into a mahoosive whoorish cold today. Felt very shafted, and asn't helped by the leccy not working this morning. However, spending all day in a cold church singing Mozart seems to have sorted me out a little bit. Still feel crap, but better than this morning | ||
| C • doesn't seem that bad to me... 3 | ||
Saturday Oct 4 | ||
| Running race (Grin 'n Bear It) 2:33:59 [4] 15.5 mi (9:55 / mi) +594m 5:31 / km | ||
| slept:7.0 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 'O' | ||
| Wanted a fairly easy route for my first long Fell Race. It may have cost quite a bit to enter, but it went to a good cause and there was lots of food :D. The race went really quickly - I looked at my watch a few minutes into the bog and was suprised to see I'd been going for 50mins! The 'Bog Monster' wasn't as bad as expected, and neiter was the weather - It was fairly windy and a bit chilly, but you could see where you were going and it wasn't raining. Heading towards the old cross I had a tail-wind and got excited which resulted in a bit of a muddy faceplant...
Gaz was about 100-200m behind me until the food stop at Woodhead road where I had to wait for traffic and he caught me up, but then he had to sort his bumbag out, so I was ahead across the fields (including a detour across a fence...) and down the road. He caught me about 1k into the Trail, which I was grateful for as I needed someone to run with or I'd've slowed right down, but once we turned off the trail onto the fields I slowed. Had to wait at the road to cross again, and through the forest was slow, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and got a nice certificate which is now on my wall :p A good intro to longer distances, and I feel it dd me some good - even if it was just to use up the pasta I ate last night...
| Note | ||
| Music that went through my head: mostly a few good folk tunes, some Dropkicks, but, perversly, "Genie in a Bottle" by Christina Agulera.
Still, better than Gaz's "my body's too bootylicious for ya baby"
Friday Oct 3 | ||
| Swimming 30:00 [2] 1 km (30:00 / km) | ||
| Went swimming. Probably the first time I'v been for a propper swim in a pool since primary school ish. Did 2 15mins/15length stints with a steam room in between, then sauna afterwards. They both didn't feel too hot... | ||
| Swimming 10:00 [2] | ||
| Aquajogging/some pootling around. | ||
Thursday Oct 2 | ||
| Note | ||
| (rest day) | ||
| busy day, and need to do some work before it gets on top of me.
Good news is, they were pretty pleased with me about my summer placement at Hallam, so I should have a lab project next summer! Whioch I can plan about Oringen (maybe), scottish and Aviemore!
Wednesday Oct 1 | ||
| Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 2 km (5:00 / km) +60m 4:21 / km | ||
| shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT | ||
| not used these shoes in ages!
Run with Danger et Zanthe to the edge for GIAG.
| Orienteering intervals (Park O) 15:00 [4] * | ||
| spiked:7/8c shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT | ||
| GIAG around Endcliffe park - star relays. Ran about 4km in total. Pushed fairly hard through the session, but it was hardly orienteering as I know the park like the palm of my hand.
Did loops C+D vs faz. Beat him easily, as expected (he somehow managed to make an error to the first control on c - fool!) Then 'loop' A vs Shminty - basically a burn-off across the field. Nailed it and felt good out, but lost it coming back - field was heavy. Then loop C again vs Danger. Turning at the 2nd control was fun due to muddy slope. He seemed to ease up a bit, so I was only about 5 secs behind - but I had run the loop before (but he did plan it...) Good session - more like intervals than anything.
| Running 50:00 [3] 9.8 km (5:06 / km) +100m 4:51 / km | ||
| shoes: Decathlon Kalenji Kapteren XT | ||
| After the GIAG, from the monument in the park with Rhys, Zanthe and Shminty along the road to bingham, through the woods to the road after Forge dam, then back down, then from Endcliffe home via westborne road/broomhill/crookesmore road. Legs were annoyed on westbrne road and in protest on the home strait down bower road. Was good'n' rainy - feeding the bog monster for saturday I fear...
The only times I've had to resort to wearing my massive white tshirt for training due to lack of other kit, I've ended up at a very muddy Endcliffe Park! There were a fair few people running in white that were farr too clean. One of whom was Phil Bowen (from home and now first year here) - lucy and I are viewing him as a possible ShUOC recruit... MORE pictures of Rob's mum...
| Note | ||
| Sacking off Corp tonight. I was v excited about it, but have been shattered recently, and thought I'd make the most of my only 'lie-in' of the week (10 start a lie in? boo!) So went to the Uni arms for the session, which was good. Fiddle needs new strings though, so more money to spend... | ||
