Warm up/down warm up/down 10:00 [1]
slept:8.0 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 Yellow 2

Orienteering race (BOC Men's Short L3) 24:40 [5] *** 4.2 km (5:52 / km) +130m 5:05 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 Yellow 2

Dan brought us in at the head of a pack in 2nd. Crickmore blasted this apart so Veleky had a 4min lead, but Ash set me off with a HH and Jack Benham on the M18. Unfortunately we went off as the Ad-Hoc started so I got stuck in as few queues early on. Pretty clean and pretty quick - although I was feeling yesterday a fair bit.
2 - The veg boundary was not as distinct as expected. Caught myself very early, adjusted well. 20secs.
7 - I'd caught site of HH at 4 but pulled away a bit, just ahead of Jack. However, direction out of 6 wasn't great and got a bit distracted by the sheer amount of people between 6 and 7! Visited the knollm (well, not quite) and small clearing first before eventually finding the correct kite at the 3rd attempt. Jack got away here, but thankfully the HH bloke got to the small clearing as I did, and I was a bit quicker on the uptake. 45secs lost, but felt like about 3mins! Didn't let my heart reach my mouth though.
13 - Slightly dodgy direction out of 12, but I check compass before entering the reentrant, caught my mistake early and plopped over to the correct one. 20secs.
The HH bloke had a slightly shorter last gaffle I think, so was a bit surprised to see him right up me trumpet approaching 13! My SIcard taking ages to register was also irksome. As I hit the track on to way to the last control MrA turned up - he must have had a flier! (looking at his time he was not far off Crickmore!) but knew I had him and HH on the run-in.
ShUOC naked surprise 2nd place. Not bad considering between me and Ash we have 3.5 years of Orienteering experience.
1st Orienteering prize.
5 PM

Note

A most successful weekend both personally and for ShUOC
ShUOC - fantastic effort from all the boys, especially Treb on 1st leg! John, Kris and Ralph had stonking runs, the latter managing to trounce Ash's run-in split even with a leaping high-5! Also good things from the Girl's - Lucy 4th on 1st leg, Ingrid and Loz keeping us up there - next year ShUOC girls'll be podium pushing! Good from the short as well.
Role on the Harvester, and the UKRL title...?!
Personally - easily my best Orienteering weekend, but I know it could have been an even better result! Just need even more time with the map in my hand and try to iron out basic mistakes regarding spurs/reentrants. As for M21E - think I'll try and crack the Long first - I was well off Long leaders on technical areas at the JK, and the though of an extra 3.5km yesterday wouldn't have made my legs happy.

Warm up/down warm up/down 25:00 [1]
slept:6.0

a fair bit before, not much after

Orienteering race 1:39:20 [4] **** 13.6 km (7:18 / km) +410m 6:21 / km
spiked:19/24c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330 Yellow 2

The aim was to try and get the nav right when off-path, as I know I'm running well. Had a good race, 11secs off the podium and ~3mins off the winner - but I know I made at least 3mins of mistakes, and was agonising a bit on where I lost 11 silly seconds (water stations? walking up the last hill through the DG?)! Still, well chuffed with fourth and beat JT and Welly, so am going to get mega ranking points come thursday!

5 - veered off my rough bearing through the LG, but thankfully caught the decision when beyond the path. Drinks point/bloke infront of me helped me here! 20secs
7 - Overly cautious - slowed down through the LG, good, but thought I'd gone too far when but hadn't, bad. Wasted 45secs running up and down the re-entrant.
8 - Caught Mikey Hopkins 4mins and was thus repressing cartwheels/slapping him. Was on the right line into the control, thought I wasn't and ended up a bit high. Also twatted my knee on a root which hurt for a while. 20secs.
9 - Looked for the small patch of white in the mass of yellow. It wasn't there. Should have just gone into the reentrant as I knew where I was, but decided to run west just to check other reentrants. 60secs.
10 - just missed the depression a bit low 30secs.
Thankfully Mikey, though he may be a twat, helped me into 9+10 and told me 'slow and steady wins the race.' Mikey, it does not, as I pulled well away from him through the quarry (which was a surprise!) loosing only a little on hesitations.
18 - Ingrid and I were both looking too far down the spur. 60-90secs.

slept:8.0 (rest day)

Quite busy with house hunting and club photo etc. Worked the Beer Festival's busy 8-11 shift then hit Bar1 food after. Got to bed at 1.30am - not great prep considering a 6.45 alarm call!

Orienteering (Silkstone Fall) 45:00 [2] *** 5.6 km (8:02 / km) +200m 6:49 / km

Really nice and surprising little wood near Barnsley. Bit of a scrappy area = bit of a scrappy run, making quite a few 20s or so. Need to keep a bit more contact this weekend (5, 8, 18 showed this) and need to sort out my exit route out of controls a bit better. Also not garnering enough information from the map when I look at it, leading to extra hesitations!
Punched every control so there's about 2 mins lost already! Slow but good fun, and when I could stretch my legs out it felt very easy.

Note

highlight of the day: watching tommyB trying to wheel a trolley the wrong way up a travelator, nearly going over the handlebars and dumping his pizza on the deck. I await the Harry Hill voice-over on the CCTV footage. Needless to say the laughter that ensued counted as my core work for the day.

Out with Ralph Shminty and Tom to Bell Hag. They then went to do Foxdahls, but my legs were still feeling yesterday so I came home via the 1st and 18th fairways. Nice and easy.

Lovely arvo. to Goodwin then out with Tom, Shminty, Ralph, Steve and PeteW through stables, lotties and along the top of Rivelin then down Blackbrook to the Coppice track for...

Running Intervals hills (Coppice Track) 15:00 [4] 3.5 km (4:17 / km) +180m 3:25 / km
shoes: New Balance N1024

2x(5x 60secs up, 30secs jog back down) up the coppice track. Added an extra 30secs onto the last rep to get to the top.
Distance and climb a calculated guess. Tried to keep the 'recoveries' moving. The 30s seemed very short, and most of the 60s far too long. Good session and not too far off Ralph, Tom and Shminty (who was motoring) although I may have jogged down further than they did :P

Warm up/down 6:00 [1] 1.2 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: New Balance N1024

jog from the top to the bottom between the 2 sets. A bit to long rest but we needed to get to the bottom somehow!

Running - Road 20:25 [2] 3.8 km (5:22 / km) +30m 5:10 / km
shoes: New Balance N1024

easy back home from the top of coppice track (-steve who left us after 1 set).
Good day, good session.
