Running - Trail 1:40:57 [2] 17.47 km (5:47 / km) +455m 5:07 / km
ahr:148 max:179 slept:9.0 shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR3

Dropped the car off at Mum's work in Hathersage and ran back with Hobbs, follwed the Gala route on to Burbage, then headed across the Moor to LadyC's - even managed to find the path about half-way across! Then back through Porter, Crimicar, top of Rivelin and Crookes. Pretty tired from the weekend so took it as practise for the last half of Sunday, but was feeling pretty good from Burbage Bridge onwards.

Orienteering race (BUCS Relay, Gullane) 49:30 [5] ***** 6.5 km (7:37 / km) +100m 7:04 / km
ahr:169 max:206 spiked:18/26c shoes: X-talon 212 (1)

Dan and Alex both took 61mins so we were a bit down on what I was hoping for - but I was set out within 2mins of Yasha, with Vokesy about 1min down. We all (along with rfr) bollocksed #2, map on the beach a bit iffy so came in at the right place, thinking it was the wrong place and hacked through dg juniper bushes (3mins or so). We then all followed Yasha out of the control onto the wrong path towards 3 - losing maybe 50seconds. Was really clean through3-12, naving well and running through Yasha and away from Vokesy. Then came the long leg into the green. I had planety of time to plan it on the path run, but the best plan I could come up with was 'dive in and see what happens'. Daft - why didn't I use the big spoil head as an AP? lost 2.5mins and Vokesy and McLeod (who I'd toasted on the long run) got back ahead (Vokesy on a slightly shorter gaffle. Dug in through spectator and started pulling away a bit, but fucked up going down the hill to 23, confusing paths and areas of dg. Overshot, loosing 40secs and that was the race done. I was closing over the last few controls, but had lost too much ground at 23.
Had a really good run apart from 2, 13 and 23. Need more low vis practise.

Running - Road warm up/down 14:08 [2] 2.47 km (5:43 / km) +91m 4:50 / km
ahr:166 max:217 slept:6.0 shoes: X-talon 212 (1)

Jogged to the start with Jack Wood and we both managed to get lost (me twice) - but at least Ola Martner managed to as well.

Orienteering race (BUCS indiv, Balkello Hill) 1:13:25 [4] ***** 8.9 km (8:15 / km) +400m 6:44 / km
ahr:174 max:201 spiked:21/28c shoes: X-talon 212 (1)

Started well (bit lucky on #2 - followed the contours well and looked right at just the right time! - the veg mapping here was pretty shocking. I normally hate 'scattered open', but it was required here!) and really enjoyed myself and had (for me) pretty clean run. Running well, but there's still some fair room for improvement. Pleased to Hold Daverams off from seeing him at 19 until the last controls (27/28) - suggests stamina is better than I anticipated - good omen for next weekend maybe?!) Main mistakes:
#3 - lost maybe 20/30secs trying to find a way through the gorse. Eventually decided to sod it and go through the pond.
#7 - 2nd common control of the phi. Set a roughish bearing from a boulder near #6 didn't follow it well. Ended up too high, but managed to keep cool and relocate quickly off the earth-wall. Pleased with how I handled myself in that situation but annoyed I made the mistake in the first place. Splits say I lost a minute but reckon I lost closer to 2.
#9 - razzed it down the hill to the obvious marsh when I knew the control was further left. Stupid. 20secs.
#17 - long leg. Missed the path near the end so had to whoop it through the heather. more concentration needed.
#18 - fucked up on the marsh, as did others. 1min.

Finished 23rd. Chuffed with most of my run but still some things to work on - most of all compass and direction out of controls. 30secs down on Jack, but only 2mins down on Beasant and Cherry. Good signs aheaed of the season, although this area did suit me well.

Double-tapped watch at start, so started it properly just after #2

Other Sport 35:00 [2]
slept:6.5 shoes: Krapsta Crapstroturf

I played 25mins in a row and it nearly killed me. My play decreased dramatically (from poor towards abysmal) after 10mins, just a bit tired. That said, I did put in a beauty of a corner for dan to slot home.
Odds on him returning the favour are pretty long.

Time to go BUC up Edinburgh...

Running - Road 47:52 [2] 9.59 km (4:59 / km) +150m 4:38 / km
ahr:157 max:176 slept:7.0 shoes: New Balance M849

Out around Rivelin to shake my legs out before the weekend. Felt pretty good going up hill, which was a surprise. Threw in a rep of Cross lane - 400m, 1.26 (4secs quicker than last time, and this way is a bit more uphill).
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/73573020 I don't trust the climb my watch measured - there's never 360m climb in 10kms round Rivelin!
This weekend I must remember not to go of like a shot, and try and keep a steady pace throughout my run. Not doing so has been my continuous undoing on open areas (except, give or take, the CSC final) as I kid myself that the nav is really easy. Main aim is to try and hold off the first few 'seeded' runners (Birtwhistle 6mins; Abrams 10 and Cherry 14) for as long as possible, but most of all enjoy myself.

ahr:172 max:182 shoes: Muclaw 333 (3)

1,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,1. 1min recs. Felt good but not moving overly quickly - the others were a bit too close for comfort for my liking.
Running the 2s and 3s at ~3.40min/km. This is OK, but not where I really want to be at the moment, which is to be expected after my shambolic training over the last 6 weeks. Oh well, I'm out of the lab on Friday and am planning on some quality training from then on. Plenty of time before the British.
Gutted myself on the last 2. Anwen was either going really well or cutting corners. I hope it's the former and that she's not peaked too soon for BUCS!

Warm up/down warm up/down 4:45 [1] 0.7 km (6:44 / km)

Including 'chorus-line' grape-vines.

Running - Road 18:42 [1] 2.92 km (6:24 / km) +75m 5:41 / km

I didn't even know I could run this slow! Although I was managing a very conversation without stopping for breath.
