Running - Road 55:48 [3] 11.81 km (4:43 / km) +45m 4:38 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: New Balance M849

Was feeling quite good until the toast I ate 50mins before running started repeating on me. Dived into a Nuffield hospital to use the facilities and by the time I got out (not too long I hasten to add, 2 mins?) the group had gone. I knew where I was though and worked my way back to Billingham before throwing in a rather slow Station Rd/Prefabs loop, which went on much longer when on my own.
Legs tired.

Orienteering race 1:47:00 [3] **** 11.75 km (9:06 / km) +455m 7:38 / km
ahr:164 max:202 spiked:25/34c shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

yeah, I managed much more than the advertised distance and climb (9.1/375)

I wasn't expecting to stick with the pack (I didn't, they were out of sight by #4) but I was hoping to have some impetus. I cruised around the first (shorter) loop, started well on the second loop, pushing a bit more, but came a cropper on 15 (banana), 16 (no concentration; wrong path and way too high) and 17 (way too high). From then on I couldn't really be bothered flogging through all the crap and jogged it in. Got a bit more perky on the final loop but then my SI stopped beeping and I trundled in 2nd last. UK Cup points at least.

Running - Trail long 2:21:18 [2] 25.48 km (5:33 / km) +779m 4:49 / km
ahr:151 max:207 slept:7.5 shoes: Muclaw 333 (3)

Long run in the drizzle from Clay Bank around Bilsdale with Andy Minister ('The Reverend' on FRA forum).

Skirted Urra Moor, dropped into Bilsdale, up the other side to Cock Howe, a loop taking in 'Meggy Mire' back to Cock Howe, descent to Chop Gate, a bit on road before heading back onto Urra Moor, heading towards the trig (highest point in the NYMs) before descending to Clay Bank.

Felt good for the first 100mins or so but started to flag just before we reached Chop Gate and Andy ran off a bit at times (he also rode out from Middlesbrough) as I plodded along. Still, a nice route, took in a bit of one of the local summer races and got onto the southern sheet of my map!

The climb in the NYMs is quite deceptive - I guessed vertical ascent at 400m or so, but the garmin climb tallies with contour counting on the OS map. As the area is a lot more rolling than the peaks (which is more up then flattish) and a lot of the climbs are long dragged out affairs you often don't feel like you're gaining height when you actually are. A case in point is the 2km climb from the edge of Urra Moor to the trig - it feels pan flat but you actually gain close to 100m

South along the river into Preston park where I found some slight hills, back taking in a wall-jump and Ropner park. Bit longer than anticipated but glad to get it in.

Greenhow Loop before joining up with the group and heading down to the bottom of the 'hill'. Glad I got the early 3.5km in at a decent pace (4.15ish).

Running Intervals intervals 39:46 [4] 8.48 km (4:41 / km) +51m 4:33 / km
ahr:151 max:185 shoes: New Balance M849

nominally this is a 'hilly' session...
920m ramp, rec, 570m ramp. 3 of the former, 2 of the latter.
3.10, 1.55, 3.00, 1.52, 2.58.
Once I knew where I was going after the first 2 I could push on a bit more.

Recoveries were very very long due to distance between the rep start/finish and waiting for stragglers as we went on. However the ramps were just enough to offer enough resistance to make flat pace hard to work for. Maintaining the pace of the 570m reps on the 920m reps was also good. I set off way at the back so I had people to push towards until close to the end of each rep.

A good intro back to slightly longer reps, the rec times need to come way down though.

Running - Road warm up/down 8:32 [1] 1.51 km (5:39 / km) +5m 5:34 / km
ahr:141 max:155 shoes: New Balance M849

and back to the stadium afterwards

Note
slept:7.0 (rest day)

feeling a bit run-down after a busy day in the lab. Was going to go for a run but something else got planned in my absence, probably could do with a rest, piled it on in the last 4 days a bit more (time wise) than I should have.

ahr:144 max:172 slept:7.0 shoes: Adidas Kanadia TR3

Tuesday headtorcher with Esk Valley from Great Ayton.
Cliff Rigg, Roseberryn Topping, better line off it than last time, Hanging Stone, Cleveland Way south, some fannying about in a newly hacked-down forest on Little Ayton Moor, Captain Cook's Monument and back through Little Ayton.
Nice group of huys and a nice relaxed pace. Took in a few lines which will be useful come the Guisbrough 3 tops race at the end of the month.

just what the doctor ordered.
