Northern XCs - 127th.

A race of two halves. The first half was pretty good. The second half was the worst I've felt in a long time.

I don't think I set off too fast for 'healthy me', but in hindsight today it was probably a bit much. I felt comfortable, leapt across a gap between groups, sat off the back of Adam Osbourne at half way.

Here my body gave up and it was just survival. I must have dropped close to 50 places. The entire Rotherham team came past in about 3 minutes, the Edwards, Harry Holmes. I just about held Nat and Dave Sprot off at the line to save some face. There were at least a couple of Salford guys around me throughout who were suffering as badly as I was though.

Taking the positives - despite not being on top form I almost felt like I belonged for the first lap and a bit. It was a shame to not take advantage of a course that played to my strengths (or more like against others' weaknesses). A good run into the top 90 would have helped the team no end so this is also disappointing.

I'm fit but just got it wrong over the last 2 weeks, despite being told. Oops!
My main aim of the year was to be consistent and for this to happen I need to get my recovery right.

Wrapped up warm and toddled into work. Felt OK but gradually worsened as the day went on so didn't run home.
I'm hoping a good night's kip will see me OK to race tomorrow, although I won't be expecting to be troubling the team as I was close to at last year's Northerns.
Colleagues have gone from cold-headache-vommiting. I've got a slight headache and am praying I don't take the next step overnight.

Managed to pick up a cold on Wednesday. Just in the head though.
Planned on an easy run in the evening once back in Sheffield but got home to realise I'd left my keys at work, so had to schlep back into town to get them and wasn't in the mood once home, figuring an extra day off might help anyway.

4x (4, 2x30s), 30s recs, 3mins between recs.
This morning I was debating jacking any attempt at a session, but packed some shoes for Endcliffe for an easier session and a shorter run home than were I at track. Not moving quick at all but felt a bit better than anticipated and got a bit of movement through the legs ahead of the weekend.
