Northern XCs - 127th.
A race of two halves. The first half was pretty good. The second half was the worst I've felt in a long time.
I don't think I set off too fast for 'healthy me', but in hindsight today it was probably a bit much. I felt comfortable, leapt across a gap between groups, sat off the back of Adam Osbourne at half way.
Here my body gave up and it was just survival. I must have dropped close to 50 places. The entire Rotherham team came past in about 3 minutes, the Edwards, Harry Holmes. I just about held Nat and Dave Sprot off at the line to save some face. There were at least a couple of Salford guys around me throughout who were suffering as badly as I was though.
Taking the positives - despite not being on top form I almost felt like I belonged for the first lap and a bit. It was a shame to not take advantage of a course that played to my strengths (or more like against others' weaknesses). A good run into the top 90 would have helped the team no end so this is also disappointing.
I'm fit but just got it wrong over the last 2 weeks, despite being told. Oops!
My main aim of the year was to be consistent and for this to happen I need to get my recovery right.
