Tiomila 2017 - Leg 10

We stacked the first 3 legs and it paid off - into no 1 train of 7 people for long night, with a big gap of 8mins by then end of it. Then our 5+6 guys had really solid races and keeping us right in the mix at the front. (IFK got away off the front but we were never looking for the win, just trying to get top 10). 7th leg was still very solid and we put out 8th leg out in 3rd.
8th was the decider of the relay with everyone from 2nd-4th getting pulled back in to a big group of 2-8th (good work RS). With a big gap to 9th of 10mins we looked like we might have a good top 10 chance. A bit of a roller-coaster 9th leg eventually turned out really well and it meant we went out in 8th place at the back of a pack of 4. Still a 10min gap to 9th.

I had got to watch all this develop, because who really sleeps properly at tio, and was now in the position where I put all this good work by the team to use. In the last Lillomarka have had a tough time on last leg, and in recent year I had thought "I could have maybe done better there" but now that I was in the position I was kacking it on the start line.

Went out with TP, Lidingo and Kalevan. At best I thought I could get Lidingo at worst I thought I might get caught 10mins by Halden.

All started very fast for the first section with TP pushing the pace, but managed to get on the back of the group. Sneaked through the first gaffel tracking TP, Kalevan slid away here, and then the second gaffel got dragged the wrong way out of the starting control by TP (because I didn't want to let him go) and when got to attacking the control he just got away. At this point TP also seemed to drop Lidingo so came out of this gaffel together. Then just ran the rest of the course on my own. At points I felt like I could hear someone behind me but never looked back and just kept the fear.
In the last third my legs went from me on the up hills and I had lots of points where I walked or stopped after a climb to make sure I didn't make any mistakes.
I the end came back as 6th team - managed to cement what everyone before me had done and a club record to boot.
Probably the most fun I have ever had running down a run in carrying a club flag and high fiving all the spectators. Wont forgot today in a hurry - what a cracking team effort!!!

{Aside: 5mins down of fastest leg time by Lundanes. I though that I had dropped about 1min technically when I finished - looking at the GPS made me realise it was more like 3mins. Loosing time on some routes mid leg or route choices which at the time I thought were fine. And on running at the second half of the course - mainly the hills. In general the O is good but still lost of chances for it to get better. Small downer on the rest of the occasion. }
