Snowshoeing race 3:00:18 [3]

I was ready to give the Snowshoe Raid a miss this year as I just wasn't quite feeling it, but then Browner suggested I race with Alisha, which sounded like an excellent idea! Fortunately, she was game and able to find arrangements for Emily. My excitement built once we heard there was actually going to be enough snow to warrant snowshoes!

Our plan was for a conservative jaunt through the woods, trying for a few of the higher value controls. I promised Alisha we wouldn't cut the time too close (oops) and have to do a sprint to the finish. She may have been questioning her decision to race with me after I took a VERY scenic route to our first control (40), but things looked up after that. We joined forces with Amber and Iris and had a great time questioning why it was taking us so long to get to all of the controls! Without my map in front of me as I write this, I can't remember all of the ones we went to, but something along the lines of 41, 38 then into the matrix for 35 and 34 sounds about right. Alisha and I parted ways from our trusty foursome as we went to get 36 on the way out (which they had got on the way in), and having to go back on my word, we had to hustle down the snowmobile trail to make it out in time. Unfortunately we were 18 seconds over, but it was a good try!

This was probably my most fun SSR in a long time for lots of reasons, including all of the snow, my great teammate, staying up and being able to attend the after party at the Gallys and a fun slumber party at Amber's! What a magical winter weekend it was! I hope that it stays this way for awhile!
