X-Country Skiing 50:00 [3]

It makes me so happy to log skiing!

Mrs. Tiny and I met up at Bechtel for a pre-work ski. We started with headlamps but it was lovely and light by the time we finished. Such a great way to start the day!

Running 2:00:00 [3]

Magical Hockley run with Tim on main and side trails. The trails were a little slick but nicely packed down and it was a lovely day to be out there. We chose Hockley because there was an outdoor (really, in January?!?) beer festival in Orangeville that I thought it would be fun to go to. There wasn't much of a crowd but apparently it was well-attended on Saturday. The strategy was to get a beer and then run back to the barrel fires as quickly as possible. A few good breweries there but no real stand outs.

Orienteering race 2:44:08 [3]

I was shockingly nervous for this as I am used to relying on Mrs. Tiny's navigational prowess and I really didn't want to get us lost in the woods! I am terrible at looking at these maps and creating a route that is based on point values rather than me randomly looking at it and thinking, "hmm...this looks fun!" Fortunately, simpy was able to share his wisdom with us and we came up with a route that seemed achievable and took advantage of some of the higher point controls.

Our plan was to start with 4 but due to flusterment, I had a hard time getting in touch with the map and we missed it. So we punched 6 first, then did 9, 191, 224, 201, 236, 242, and 231 before punching out of the matrix. In retrospect, we definitely had time to throw 230 in there as well and should have. We finished with Tim leading the way through the last four controls near the finish. Ended up with 750 points and a 19th overall finish which we were pleased as can be about. I wished I hadn't messed up 4 and we'd gotten 230 as well but after the first bobble, everything made sense and Tim was an awesome and very engaged teammate.

Was so great to see everyone and the conditions were just about perfect for this!

Snowshoeing 1:15:00 [2]

My Snowshoe Raid teammate Tim had never snowshoed or orienteered before, so we arranged for him to come up early so we could test out both, the day before the race, which is of course the perfect time to try out two new sports!

We took an old O-cup map out to Puslinch where I was confident I would be able to show him the ropes. Well...that didn't last long. Within minutes he was questioning my route choices and making better decisions! There wasn't enough snow to warrant the snowshoes but it was good for him to practice taking them on and off and see how they felt to run in.
